Hi All,

My CSL just failed the MOT on rear tyres just below the legal limit (to be expected!) and a broken rear spring :bigcry:

Does anyone know how much genuine replacements are?

I'm gutted because I was planning on swapping to coilovers but not until end of feb so i'm only going to need it for 2 and a half months!

I dont suppose any of you guys have got a used one you'd like to sell me? Maybe someone's got just a single one spare as they've replaced both of theirs?

I would never usually replace something like this with a secondhand component (particularly when they are so prone to failure) but I only need it to last for a couple of months.

Thanks ;)

Craig!

How much do you want for your used rear spring including postage to East Sussex?

Is it in fairly reasonable condition, i.e will it last till next march?

Cheers,
Jon

PM'd... from what I know its practically been taken straight off a CSL before much use, this spring is from Germany (Tom Schirmer place) and he doesnt leave M-Cars standard!

Another option if the spring is the same as a std E46 is the breakers yard ! Im sure others on here will be able to confirm if this is a possibility or not, obviously something with frontal damage would be preferable !;).
Other than that, others on here have parts for sale and may be able to help.

Different spring rates between the M3 and the CSL... been there found that out lol.

Bogger me ! I dont believe it ! I have just hit the send button on an email to Tom Schirmer. See below.

Tom,
Duncan Rogers here, I visited your shop last month ref the parts from the above car, but i could see you had " viel arbeit" at the time and looked very busy. When you have time, could you please tell me what you have in store there as I want to get everything all together in one place now that i own the car. Im hoping you have the following, but i am still in touch with Andy and can check things if needed.

Front Seats.
Interior trim
Original BMW Suspension, I believe you fitted the Intrax one.
Any other parts that may belong to the vehicle but not listed.
Yours sincerely

I wonder

When did you happen to get hold of the spring from Tom Craig?

Craig

Haha, mebbie! I ended up using Tom for parts whilst out over there as I broke a coil the day before leaving, that was in July!!

He's got hundreds of springs back there, could here them clanging around as he was sifting through them so I bet Andrew's set is still there too.

Or maybe ...half of Andrews set is still there !! and half is for sale on here !!:banghead: :hahaha:

Duncan, I would be very strongly inclined not to presume Schirmer have done anything underhand on a public forum until you have cleared up exactly what they have done with the stuff belonging to your car.

Right problem solved.

Thanks very much for the offer Craig but I've found a local dealer who has one in stock at a very attractive trade price.

Had it not been that I can collect it tomorrow morning which will allow me to fit it over the weekend I would've happily purchased yours

Alex, I appreciate what you are saying mate, but if you read my posts clearly,im not accusing Tom of doing anything underhand at all, (please note smiley face after post) and im intelligent enough:whistle: to avail myself of all the facts before so doing, indeed if I was taking this seriously at all I would of course have PM'ed Craig and interrogated him relentlessly about how he came to be in possession of "the spring" ! , but i know Craig can confirm that I havent done so, I was merely using the feint possibility that he may have done so, (even accidentally) for a bit of amusement on a wet Friday afternoon !!!
Im a bit of a clown :clown: im afraid, and enjoy a laugh,:hahaha: like lifting my CSL 3 metres into the air on my forktruck ! But on a more serious note, you also could have PM'ed me with the same public reply in this thread, but you didnt, and as a consequence, i feel obliged to defend myself...publically !! :bigcry:..... didnt take me long to get into trouble on here did it ! thought it was going too well !
I hereby publically apologise to Tom Schirmer and to all members on here, if they feel that I actually accused Tom of selling/hiring/lending/donating said spring to Craig...there.. Have a good week-end all

Now T$ dont you start !;) my apology was a sincere one...it cost me nothing ! Besides which, i wouldnt accuse Tom of such a thing...he is bigger than me !:hahaha: Matter closed !

Have a good week-end mate.
PS Those 10J x18 ET25 BBS wheels do fit on the rear, fitted with 265 35 18 Cups, and clear with the existing 10mm spacer, havent tried fronts yet but I doubt they will clear..what say you?

Just make sure its a CSL spring, the stealers tried to palm an M3 one off to me saying they were the same.
