I have gone off the idea of building a track car now!! I have been pricing things and it adds up to quite a lot, especially just to be used on the track, so, back to Pistonheads and Autotrader!! :banghead:

I am torn between a CSL or a GT3. A guy I know is wanting rid of his GT3 to help with a business venture so might have a shot of that when I get home. The only thing is, a lot of CSL's still have warranty which I reckon is a must, not so common with GT3's. I know M3's, as you know have had quite a few over the past years, and feel confident in them, a Porsche? That's different ground altogether! Everything costs twice as much from Porsche too!! Watch this space!!! Lol. I'll have whatever I get at the next convenient track day (you just know it's gonna have those three letters on the bootlid though!!!).

I really didnt ike the GT3 I drove Jim, I hate the fact the engines in the back and the front to me feels light.

Colin said he had met you there, Mark. He's trying to sell that car just now to buy an E46 M3. I used to leave him mines to use when I was working away (for years now actually!?!?), or on a mad weekend and unable to drive, so he's got the bug!!

The rear engine thing is the only part about the GT3 that I am unsure about, I am fond of getting the rear out, and would be fearful of the GT3 acting like a big pendulum and pulling me into a tyre wall!! I am an adopted member of the Scottish section of the Porsche club, that's who I travel the European tracks with, and for the years I have had M3's all I keep hearing from them all is "get a 911 Jim!!". I might do one day, when I want to slow down!! Lol.

Think I am more biased towards BMW than I originally thought!!

I have never paid more than £880 a set of 4 and have managed new set for as little as £750, and nearly new set of £400 from CSL owners.

If you bargain you can get one!

Easy guys. Had my CSL for sometime but only just found this forum. :-D

I'm up for a set of Cups, so stick me on the list & let me know how to proceed if this comes off.

Just stuck my spare wheels & fresh Cups on ready for a trip to 'Ring in May & the better weather I hope is coming our way.

Cheers, Alex.

I've gone off the idea of buying Cups now. Bought a set of genuine 18" M3 alloys, and ordered a set of Toyo R888's, keep the 19"'s with road tyres, and have the 18"s for the track. I can get a set of R888's for £604, paid £100 for the wheels (they do need a refurb!), a lot cheaper and it gives me the best of both worlds!! Everyone I spoke to recently said the Toyo's are better?? Got to be worth a try! I'll keep you posted, I'm going to Spa then straight to The Ring in May with them, fingers crossed! Haha.

thats a good choice for economics...but dont believe the 888 are better than cups in dry or damp conditions.

The only time they get better is with standing water where cups can be a little problematic

That's exactly why I like running Cups. In the Spring/Summer months there's no better compromise & no need to change tyres at a track. Grip levels are stunning. Just have to remember to warm them up. Can be a little :119: on the road when they're cold. :hahaha:

With R888's there is no need to take them to the track and have a jack to change etc etc, they are road legal. Change them at the house before hand and drive to the track. Cups are good, but not really for all year round use, with our weather and greasy roads, lets be honest. That's why BMW had you sign a disclaimer when buying a new CSL with them fitted. That's why I thought I would keep the 19's with road tyres and have a set of track tyres, therefore the best of both! Due to the nature of the tread pattern on the R888's they should last a little longer than the Cups too, and the price is also a contributory factor!!

P.S. -Thanks for the B'day greeting Mark, trying to forget them now, counting backwards! Lol.

Cups are fine for getting to and from track.

You just have to be careful with standing water so makes Cups difficult if you drive it daily.

The car was built for them don't forget.

By passing direct with the official Michelin dealer for europe ( CEERTA in france) the best price we have is 874£ for a set

thru others Dealers it's around 950/980£ for a set.

Seem's like in luxembourg they are cheaper according to a Csl owner on the border 820/825£ for a set

Sorry lad's just received mine last week and probably not the best option for shipping after to my location...

Quick Question on running Cups to the Ring?

With the low wear rate you get from Cups, do you guys who use them at the Ring also do the 1000 miles it takes to get there and back with them on?
