Hmm, a friend with an 06 plate Z4M has also just had to have a new engine after 20k miles via BMW. The engine in this, at it's core, is the same as the CSL. :smt085
Isn't the engine pretty much a slightly tuned version of the M3 anyway, not much difference in it I thought... and those are proven engines running into the 100k's (and bloody loads of them). Failure rates pretty low for such a widely produced engine I would have thought.

Not really anything to worry about though is it. There are bound to be one or two failures. But with an engine produced in the 10's of thousands the risk is fairly low. Also, if you have warranty there's nothing to worry about at all. And if you don't, it is relatively low cost to rebuild an M3/CSL motor. Nothing that exotic about them.

Mine's @ 69 500 on the clock and is going into hibernation 500 miles shy of her 70K milestone  13 (A4) pages of BMW warranty work from New with Full BMW Service History, an ongoing BMW Warranty + a handful of caring, fussy owners has proven it's possible to do 70K on an original engine/gearbox/ differential . Now I've said that, I've tempted faith :smt017
