From the many threads on the mlr regarding the infamous topgear fq400 evo, it is always on the radar, usually followed by bitchy 30 page slating:gayfight:

My question is does anybody own the csl as used on topgear? or anyone know of its whereabouts?

Just curious

Did you read this? Quite interesting

Ex-Press cars are good and bad.

All manufacturers prepare there press car differently. They are not from the production line. The car would have been driven for 3000 miles and then stripped. Then put back together with matching tolerance parts for the best panel gaps and interior finish the car would have been enhanced for the use of a better word. All Ford vehilces are prepared this way from Jaguars to the Ford GT. Engines are never standard and the NVH is improved with padding and hand crafted extra pieces as well as behind door cards and under dashboards. They dont leave anything to chance.

I myself once had a press car and it never rattled or went wrong once and it was a Fiat.

So if anything the car would have been looked after better than any owner. It would have had a dyno'ed engine with more power and torque and of course its own calibration. If its been left in this state then get it.

Do you all really think car manufacturer don't cheat to get the best reviews as it most cases its better than advertising and cheaper as well.

Take it from someone who knows...........

When I had that free prodrive day back in 2005 we used their csl's and they were modded as they had a switch in the glove box which turned off all braking aids for when we used the skid pan. I suppose they would have had to put these back to standard and sell them on once they had finished with them? Did anyone else do that day? I Know NZ_M3's dad did as I met him there. Wonder what happened to those. Pic here with numberplate, but would they have changed the plates?

That could make sense ... I've heard rumours about this "OZ" import to NZ ... this is the third time I have heard about this car - apparently it's sapphire black ... I must track this one down one day.

But yeah, definitely not me ...

I did that day as did wheels, that switch was funny, caused the car to go to limp home after a while, all the "late registration is better" people are probably driving round in cars that were utterly abused for the first 6 months of their lives ;)

Haha, yes they certainly did get abused!!

Was a good day though, really enjoyed it.

Do you think they would have re-registered them to change the plates?
