Hiya guys,

Was planning to attend some of these airfield trackdays to get a feel for the CSL when it is pushed hard. Hopefully will also be able to have a play on the open airfield for kicks!

Anyone tried or heard of these before?

I will definetly be going since its so close to where I live atm.

http://www.motorsport-events.com/ (Looks at Events Tab)

They also offer 1 to 1 courses with a Chap called Ed Moore...

Cheers,

V.

I attended an raf airfield trackday in september, it ruined the front of my car completely. Stonechip city.:banghead::banghead:

I will never go on airfield trackday in anything which costs more than £5k.

Apart from stone chips you'll also ruin all your tyres as the usual concrete surface is very harsh on rubber. You'll end up a Rainy Face Man :bigcry: if U do. I wouldn't even take my MK2 Golf GTi, let alone the CSL.

Oh wow ok, close call avoided there!

Whats my best bet being in the somerset area? Castle Combe is about 20 mins away

Next would be either Llandow in Wales or then Silverstone or Brands Hatch...

Llandow tarmac isnt great and circuit is very short and not what id call free of targets (big earth mounds and armco)

i would if i were you, pop over to Bedford

Agree with the advice on airfields - best avoided...! :banghead:

Castle Combe is worth a visit for sure and Silverstone will be well within reach for you :smokin:

Avoid the airfield ones mate. Never done Castle Combe myself, but I have heard its very bumpy and very fast, so possibly not ideal.

The two best first timer tracks are Bedford and Anglesea, both a jaunt I know, but make it an overnighter with a pal or something? If it helps, I'm at Bedford on 16th November with Circuit Days, I am more than happy to help you out/advise etc, and you get some free tuition with Circuit Days too:thumbs:

Hazy is correct, Castle Combe is bumpy as hell (well it was two years ago).

Yes I'd also recommend Bedford. HUGE run-off areas and without the dreaded kitty litter (gravel traps) which can also make a mess of the paint work.

Best

A long way to go, but you might want to consider a Car Limits day in Essex. It is on an Airfield, but not a trackday, so much less chance of getting stone chips. Good fun and a safe way to explore yours and the car's limits.

Bedford would be a good alternative.

I went there with my 360, the track destroyed my paintwork and the berk in the drivers seat destoyed the tyres :hahaha::hahaha::hahaha:

I did this but my car felt ruined afterwards :( I imagine wet days are less harsh but also less sociable :)

Silverstone / Bedford would be a good start.

probably soemthing to do with you driving into the kerb and breaking your splitters before you arrived at the gatehouse trying a right turn where it said 'NO RIGHT TURN'

Splitter... Admittedly that wasn't the best start :) but that was only cosmetic. When I got home my car sat in the bath and ran the shower uttering "I feel so dirty" :clown::whistle:

Agree, avoid airfields, boring and paint/tyre damage is massive. I'm also Somerset based, Combe is great and easy to get to but Brands Hatch/Goodwood/Silverstone are not too far. Always get instruction its worth every penny. Check http://www.motorsportads.com/test-trackday-diary.htm for Track Day Dates.

I might take you up on that! It's a long drive though!! :-/
would be good to get a trackday done before the Christmas vacation.
And it seems like Bedford is a pretty good place to start out.

I'd recommend car limits.

it might knacker your tyres a bit, but its good fun and you'll learn lots.

the sprint circuit at the end of the day is really good.
