was at silverstone yesterday goldtrack day, the car was amazing as always and also the weather was outstanding, had my new performanace friction pads on (standard discs) and they did the job with ease, they are also cheaper than the pagid's. so if anyone was wondering how they are>?? They are worth buying after your pagid's wear out lol.

next upgrade is the Performance Friction Discs and Calipers All round !!!!!

ready for next season

fresh orange did the photography @ the track yesterday and have lots of very good pics of all the cars that were there yesterday if ya fancy a look at them.

I have these on my CSL too with Stock callipers and I was wondering what they are like when used in anger :smt093. HAPPY to hear they work well on the Track as they seem V.good on Fast Roads  At £54 + VAT they are cheeper then the EDC Green Stuff pads on my E39 Touring :bigcry:

Not the proper compound then ;) I'm lead to believe that PF01 is the one to go for.

So who's leading you to believe that then ? :hahaha: Any thoughts on EBC GREEN or RED stuff pads for the standard CSL caliper/disc set up ?

All the people that track it along with of course me old mate Fuchs :)

I wouldn't put EBC pads on a pushbike let alone a moderately fast yet heavy car.

I've seen PF Z fall apart on a trackday so be wary. PF01 are comparable to RS29. Last me about 4 trackdays per set at £200 so if PF Z work at £60 that's a great find but my gut feeling without trying to be patronising is that they will not cope with the heat and either disintegrate or wear at a very fast rate.

But worth keeping an eye out to check their progress!

Are the EBC pads really that BAD ! I've had them on quiet a few Golfs (MK2, MK3 & MK4) and they coped very well, even at the RING. What gives, has anyone on here actually tried them or am I going to have to be the first one to try ?

now this is my last word on the subject incase Fuch's radar picks it up but the RING is not hard on brakes like a UK track, def not like Bedford, Anglesey, Donington, Snetterton.

A nice generous piece fo Edam will stop you at the Ring :)

LOL !!! :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: I'm in full agreement with you that the Ring isn't that hard on brakes so a standard set up with semi decent HOT pads (even EBC Reds) should be fine. A lot of short, UK Tracks however are brake killers :bigcry: Should I just bit the bullet and "AP" my CSL ? and does BREMBO do a big brake kit for our cars ?

i have to say i dont think Alcons can be better for the car as my AP callipers have been absolutely superb/faultless in the 50k miles they have done so far and ?? trackdays. I ma getting them refurbed next week just in case!!

BUT if i had m time again i think i may try ALCONS anyway although it does limit the pad and disc options

APs are a well engineered product that I would expect to last 50k miles, and then some.

ALCONS are a little bit better in all ways (except for the ease of pad change), as used in FIA GT, by Prodrive on the WRC cars, etc. Given the intended use of Alcons, there are enough pads available - certainly all the main/common ones on the TD scene.

If you already had APs, I think the need to change is negligible. But i agree with you that if you had the choice to do it from OEM now, then Alcons are a definite consideration. They served me well in over 30k miles on the GT3! (same set of discs lasted that entire time with RS29s which imho is just amazing considering the mixed track and road use)

what pad profile do they use up front? And are they common?

Ade

It is the Alcon Mono6 caliper upfront, and the Mono4 for the rear.

Front pad template is the Pagid E8028 and Ferodo FRP3081

The Mono6 and Mono4 calipers have been around for some time - they are also the exact same calipers being touted by Alcon for the latest GTR etc. The caliper and pad template blueprints are available on the Alcon website.

Have a look here: http://www.alcon.co.uk/advantage_extreme.htm

"Alcon are a little bit better in all ways" - well they aren't cheaper, they won't stop you any faster, they won't give advantages with regard to fade so erhaps not better in all ways ;) Better disks for sure though and like Shimmy if I were starting from OEM I'd take a look at them without a doubt.

The tyre is the limiting factor in stopping distances and you don't get any fade with the common AP kit anyway so difficult to improve on those areas. AP make monoblock calipers too if that is really a consideration, and water cooled ones if you are as heavy on the brakes as Fuchs ;)

They are all good kits, pick the one that meets your budget and buy from somewhere that will give you the support you need.

AP rebuilt and resealed all pistons on both front callipers including having to fit 2 new pistons due to corrosion and I was only charged for the seal kits, that sent them right up in my estimation :D

i agree that RS14 wear faster (only last 3/4 as long) but i dont think they are any worse on the discs tbh
