View Full Version : front bumper...
i really cant belive it, someone has just reversed into my from bumper and put a 2 foot crack in it above the numberplate :banghead: luckily i wa walking away from having just parked and heard the noise. the guys has admitted its his fault, had a car full of kids and was really sorry. however front bumbers are hard to come by right?
what's even more infiriating is that in only just been painted about 6 weeks ago :banghead:
i would be grateful for some advice, do insurance companies just try repair them? which i am not happy about, then genuine part is very costly iirc?
thanks for you help

If its not that bad then it will be repaired, but you could always talk to your garage and tell them to request a replacement as CF is hard to fix? Just make an excuse that it will now be fragile in that point and thus wont absorb the impact of a future accident, thus being unsafe.

PM Nords and see what his recent experiences were.
A fix is possible but takes time and car will be off the road whereas replcement can take months.

What a pain in the arse i had someone hit my rear diffuser and it took 5 months to get repacement.Worse is my insurance has now gone up on both csl and r32 because some dozy twit cant drive.I have to notify them of a claim for 3 years so on both cars prob cost me a grand.when i questioned the insurance company bout it not being my fault they said as i have been in a accident i am now more likely to be involved in another one so hence the rise.Oh and i was protected no claims what a joke.:smt067

Dazza (DazBlackCSL) had exactly the same thing happen earlier this year and his car is having the bumper repaired/sprayed. I'm sure he could offer some advice

Yep .. some fucker reversed into the front bumper in london, and I was away from car.
Big crack in the carbon to, but my bloke says no issues in repairing it, so he's doing just that, full respray and filling in the no plate holes .. etc etc
Oh and both wings and complete bonnet and B pillar :hahaha:
Dont think my car has ever looked like it will on sunday :smt047:smt047
I waited 3 months for a bumper only for it to not fit properly, and splitters not fitting right... BMW agreed to replace under warranty (so far been waiting since May as the dealer allegedly sent the 2nd one away and now waiting for 3rd) NIGHTMARE :bigcry::bigcry:

That sounds about right. I have claimed on insurance after hitting a big badger at 70, and the cost came to £8k and then £2K for the hire car on top as it took 2.5 months. The good thing is that the badger damaged the AC system so that and all the pipes are sparkly new bits (not covered on warranty!)

Speak to Julian/Anthony @ Simpson Motorsport. They can repair carbon and have done loads of CSL bumpers. It'll save $$'s and shouldn't take too long either.

I remember that bumper, is there still a drink in it for me??
As AlexGTT says Simpson’s can repair it, I think the last time I was down Julian said they have a new mould to make bumpers.

I too have first hand knowledge of the problems involved with bumper damage.
Someone hit me from behind while I was stationary on the M25 in traffic. This pushed me into the car in front hence the bumper damage. This happened on May 15th 2008. I picked up my car from the dealers on December 22nd 2008!
This was because of waiting for the front bumper. I was also given many false dates and promises along the way which I reported to BMW UK. Now got a chip free bumper, but also all the other things like having to admit an accident to insurers, reduction in car value when I sell, and seven months without my car!
I was only stationary in the traffic queue!
I'm sure the person who hit me had a new car within weeks.
:bigcry:
its done and back...:) brand new genuine front bumper arrived from BMW on Friday last week, comes painted with new splitters. the only thing i had to put up with was a Merc CLS for 3 days. plus ive got the old bumper to sell with splitters :) well happy..:)
