View Full Version : Vredestein Tyres
Anyone tried the Vredestein Ultrac Sessentas yet?
I had them on my last car and they were great all-round, year round tyres (although classed as summer tyres).
They are cheap and have a great looking tread but wear well. Grip is the only thing I didn't test out as much as I would have liked, so wondered if anyone has tried them on a CSL?
They seem to make the right sizes... for anyone who doesn't know what they are, they are a Dutch company whose tyres seem to do very well in all independent tests against the big boys. One test came out as below:
1st Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
2nd Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
3rd Pirelli P Zero Nero
3rd Continental Sport Contact 3
5th Michelin Pilot Sport 2
6th Dunlop SP Sportmaxx
7th Hankook Ventus S1 Evo
8th Toyo Proxes T1 R

Those test results seem to speak for themselves...unless the test was for how black the tyres were !:hahaha:.
Are they easily found (i always spell scourced wrong) in the UK Sien? what sort of prices are they?

I'm surprised to see TOYO T1-R so low down the scale ??? They must work better on front wheel drive cars. NICE to see the GOODYEAR Eagle F1 Asimetrico second from the top  as there is a fairly fresh set currently fitted to (hopefully soon to be) my CSL

Can't remember where it was actually (I copied that from a random tyre site earlier)... didn't they do it in EVO or Topgear magazine?
Anyhoo, http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Sessanta.htm
Everyone's different, but they seem to be on par with the goodyears in general, and at least I know how these react.
Surprised nobody has got any?! They are quite common replacement for the runflats on the E90 range. Only issue is that 'sometimes' they can be a bit hard to find, but I think that was a dry spell they were going through a while ago. Quite a few companies carry them now and growing.

Elite do them, but not as cheap as Falkens
Falken £115/138, Vredestein £126/155 so about £110 more. If your gonna buy slippery hard tyres you might as well buy cheapest ones you can, or get yourself a 320d as your loosing all the traction that you paid the big bucks for,,,,,,,:smokin:

I had those tyres on my CSL and to be honest the grip wasnt that good - i wouldnt scrimp on tyres especially summer ones - gotta be the Mich Cups ;)

Strange, I always thought the grip was OK (these would be all year round tyres btw so comparing them to Falken/Goodyear). Would love to get a set of cups for summer though.
not sure if i trust that test...
conti's above PS2
not on any of my m3's

It wasn't just that test, there's quite a few others I've read that show the same, albeit not with them winning, but ranked very highly among the more expensive tyres.
But as Shimmy said, if your going for a budget winter option might as well go for the Falkens.

Having just purchased a normal m3 with these already fitted, they seem ok to be fair in terms of grip. I much prefer the falkens though. The noise the sessanta made on the road is shocking even compared to the falkens. Plus the trad pattern looks poor on the sessanta. More all round tyre than performance tyre.

PS2 are the best, I scrimped and put Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on and they are not as good in terms of grip or turn in. I have had the Sportmaxx on a Civic Type R and they really were rubbish.

each to their own :smt001
I think PS2s are shit in the wet and prefer the goodyears
I have sportmaxx on my F1 cup and think they are a great tyre
And herein lies the issue with tyres, and more specifically, grip.
If over the winter my car will be used for the odd run out in dry but cold conditions, and on roads (not track) what is the best for my needs...
The reason I sold my last car is because it it didn't feel quick... even though it was very quick. It was civilised and boring on the road. I bought the CSL to get more excitement and drama, which it delivers just sat there.
For me... and I'll probably get flamed for this... I would take a lower grip tyre that looses traction evenly and predictably, than a high grip track tyre that I'll never discover the limits of before I hit silly license shredding speeds. I'm sure if I was on track and going for the last few hundredths then it would be a different story (and with the ability to reach speeds where traction would be limited in a safe environment on high grip tyres).

then I would say Falkens, Ive never used them but they get good right ups, if you want a winter tyre to get the grip down the Uniroyal wets are another option, they are what they say, a wet tyre and give loads of grip :smt001
