Hi there,
I bought an Exige waiting to reach budget for a CSL. I'm not so far for it and I found this very strange advert, vin number is CSL but front bumper is classic M3... Is anybody know this car, this dealer... ?????
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1275947.htm
It was announced a class D in hpi (small damaged i the front)
Your help and advise are very welcome.
Cheers
Antoine

I would run away.
they put up a car for sale with blurry photos (of the interior), with the wrong bumper... it's CAT D, and has no warranty.
Put it this way, if they can't be arsed even fitting the right bumper (which will bugger up the flow to the airbox), what else have they scrimped on?
It's not even cheap.
I'd recommend looking at a 50-60K mile one, for the similar price, which has been used properly and looked after by an enthusiast, and maybe put BMW warranty on it, if it doesn't already have it.
no idea on the history of this one, but it looks alright: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1106899.htm

Thanks for your answer, what's exactly a class D in term of damage ?

Category D is usually the least damage caused but still claimed through insurance who decided to write the car off as the costs of repair were more more then half the value of the vehicle in question.
I too would stay clear of this one as with any HI performance car like the CSL a frontal impact cheaply repair could mean twisted/out of kilter chassis that hasn't been jigged properly. End result being being an underivable CSL that is wearing your tires out in an unusual pattern as it can not be tracked properly.

Thank you for your explanation
Is anbody should be available for an inspection on this car ?

Mine is 46k and will be near that price, only mine is straight and true with correct bumper and full bmw warranty:thumbs:
I know it is low mileage but i reckon it should be 16-17k to reflect its on the register and missing a £2,000 genuine front bumper

If I were U I'd speak to the chaps @ Thorney about it. They are very much on here, just speak up a bit and they should hear U :hahaha: But, as some of us said before, it's just NOT worth the effort and the 11K miles they claim this CSL has, is just "Pie in the Sky" without Full Service History + U might find BMW refusing to put extended Warranty on it, which IMHO is a MUST with any road going CSL. The decision is yours but there are better HPi clear CSL out there for £1000-£2000 extra.

I TOTALLY agree with that. Stay well clear of that one, unless U fancy throwing bags of cash at it just to make it OK. Once it's on the HPI Cat list, it's marked for life and will NEVER be as desirable as a HPi clear, looked after example.

RUN AWAY....If it doesn't look right or feel right don't bother.
It has a M badge on the back but no CSL...You do find that breakers will sell parts off 'Cat' car parts and replace with 'normal' cheaper parts to make money. But there are better cars for thr money....Very strange this one.

id be surprised if it was not a CSL originally but the front damage might be worse than just a front bumper (as cat D would suggest that the cost of the damage was considerable)
as said above if the rebuilder didnt even bother waiting for a CSL bumper or even a replica CSL bumper for £300 then he obviously has no idea what he is doing

It's a "Patchy OLD SHED" not worth bothering yourself about. Don't be a Muppet :clown: and LEAVE it well alone or you'll end up a "Rainy Face" :bigcry:

Isn't this all based on speculation? Has anyone actually phoned up to ask the history of the car? Maybe some repair photos?
It is very easy to write off a car like the CSL because of the part prices. They could of put an M3 bumper on because the CSL item takes months.
For me, it is cheap enough to be tempting. I'd just do some more research. I wouldn't put any money down before a professional inspection either.

Cat D will be hard to insure and is worth 60-70% of a clean proper one tops...
Steer away!

I'm viewing a CSL tomorrow that's cheeper... and a 1000 times better  and I'm saying this even before I've see it in metal. That Cat D CSL will NEVER be 100% right. And as for as finding more about it's history... what's the point. The seller should have already mentioned the important information such as the history, in the Ad and the lack of it further indicates that there is NO service history worth mentioning. To me it reads as an uncared shed that's had a BIG off. £22 K is NOT cheap for a Crashed CSL, but as with all thing in life, it's your call
