What does your CSL do in the above circumstances ?

Mine goes a bit 'jerky' - garage reckons it's missing and one/some of the coil packs might be not working correctly. Drop it a gear or two and it's fine - no other issues.

Just wondered whether they are all like that ?

Don't think I've ever been doing 40 in 6th gear... Would be in 4th at 40!

155 of course - unless you have a delimited or remapped car ;)

What garage is this? Surely BMW would quickly be able to tell on the diagnostics machine...

Hardly a torquey engine though is it, they are pathetic unless you rev the nuts off them!

uh ..i have a sneaky suspicion its delimited glendog;) ...though not remapped !

bromers

mine has had some work done recently as you may well have read

symptoms included 2500 revs and car was very jumpy when floored and even though i had headgasket replaced i put this down to the coil packs or the injectors

if your mileage is 50k i would get injectors cleaned and coil packs replaced and see

But that would appear closer to 185-190 on the speedo :)

Driving through Belgium last May i changed up into 6th at 140mph ish and when i lifted at 170 you could tell it still had some left :supz:

I thought your car was remapped Duncan?

A limited one will show 170 odd on the dials, mine was unlimited from the factory and got to about 180 on the clocks before I decided it was a bit dangerous and it was still accelerating, though slowly, can't see them going much above a real 170-175 though as said.

_Nathan_ - I had the remap taken off my car, and left with it being delimited.

The difference the remap made wasn't enough to justify the warranty concerns in my eyes.

GPS 174mph is about right for them.

Andrew, my/your/our/their car is coming up to 60k, did you ever have a need for this to be done mate? Hope you had a good week-end.
I have sorted BMW Warranty this am, just in case ,look for them taking the p**s..i mean payment on or about the 16th.

Garage hooked up their computer and saw a voltage decline on a couple of cylinders at low revs - at high revs everything was fine.

I'll start with the coils and move them around to see if that's causing the issue.

Just put injector cleaner in the fuel see if that helps too, probably going to need them 'micro-cleaned' ? Big job ?

Nope. always seemed to give good power!

What are the revs at at this point at 40mph in 6th?

It may be just slight clutch judder?

If it is a car which has been driven hard on track, your differing driving style ie driving like miss daisy pfff 40mph in 6th:gayfight:( joke), may just be giving the clutch something else to think about maybe:thumbs:

Rick

i seem to remember injectors were about £170 for all cleaned. Thye were already out for the head work.

you could try one coil and replace all one by one and see if it makes a difference (easy job)

if it works replace all six just in case

The engine shudders quite badly if you keep your foot down but as soon as it starts 'missing' just lifting off and back on again sorts it out. In higher revs/lower gear it's fine. Does anyone else's do this at all ? (I must of just got use to it - but don't drive like this very often :) )

The fact that it's temporaily dropping the voltage on the same cylinder each time suggests its the coil on it way out ?

Do you reckon all 6 will need replacing then ? Or is this just a safety precaution.

Anyone else had them replaced ?

I would say if one started to play up and all six are original, I'd replace them all.

Sorry old post I know but, Bromers, or any one ever get a solution to this?

Mine does this now has a real flat spot at 2000 rpm when warm and cold no where else and hesitates quite badly from idle up to about 3000rpm when just started and driven off.(ie engine cold)

Think I will get a leak down test and get the injectors checked and go from there.

Going in to see Simpsons on the 13 july 2010.

Hope its not the head gasket that would p!ss me right off!

Edit

Just read this from Turner Motorsports!

Looks like it could be the fuel pump? How do I check if it's failed? Pleasing solutions only!

When my HG went I had a few syptoms and this was one

BUT also had dodgy coilpacks and some injectors that were not running efficiently, all sorted together and went away!

I think when you reach to 100k km, replacing coil packs and injectors is a MUST.

Already done coil packs a while ago replaced all 6 with the bosch ones, will get the injectors cleaned as well. Any one know where to get this done?

Have been researching this fuel pump problem and apparently it is very common on the M3 and e46 basically car is not smooth, hesitates at low rpm and possibly does not start or cuts out when idleing. Which is what mine has started doing.

These symptoms are even worse when the car is cold. Apparently replacing the fuel filter at the same time is a good idea as well.;)

My car has a bit of a flat spot/hiccup between 2-3K RPM if you're in the wrong gear. My previous non-CSL E46 M3 was the pretty much the same, so I've always assumed it was a feature...
