Didnt make it today but looking at TSL Timing John Thorne won both Modified Class races and Daz both Standard races (only runner)
I think that means Daz is Standard Class champion (well done rooky) and Dan stringfellow is Modified Chamtion and overall winner.

Just got in and shattered, been up there since Wednesday, M11/M25 was a pile of shite :bigcry:
Cracking weekend really missed Curly as Duncan White moved upto Mod class as he had cams and tweaks , but still beat him !! lol
Two wins, but not as worthwhile as only runner this weekend, 2nd in championship tho so happy with that in first season, learnt loads and hopefully in for next year budget allowing.
Has a awesome start on 2nd race, got upto 1st in the corner but got taken by Foster and Thorne, then the modded chaps got back eventully but held on for 6/7 laps in third which was a giggle:hahaha:
Had a sideways moment and let stevie g through, will look awesome on his in car as he chased mr round and ran wide ... oops !
Will post up pics tom, and sure steve will do his pukka write up:thumbs:

:thumbs:Will post up the vid when I get home - when you went wide to begin with I was saying, "Oh no please dont go onto the grass and crash!!!" when I should have been concentrating on getting past but I didn't want see a nice guy like Daz crash :bigcry:
For everyone who wasn't there I qualified 5th but didn't make race 1 due to gearbox problems where it wouldn't engage gears 2, 4 and 6 :banghead:, thankfuly by race 2 we'd managed to get it sort of working and I started the race at the back of the grid. Finished 4th in the end which I was happy with considering I had to do the back straight in 6th (thanks to the gearbox playing up) and some corners went round out of gear :banghead:
Great weekend apart from that and Daz was an absolute star and perfect host for the evening's entertainments
I'd setup two video cameras, one facing forward one back so it should make for some fun video.
BTW I hate Snetterton, its far too fast a circuit for a man of my (limited) talents I prefer the slower and twistier ones. I was lifting most of the way into the bombhole and many times ended up just short of the grass on the exit of the wide sweeping corner before Russell. Its the kind of circuit I really need to do a lot of work on if I'm going to get anywhere next year!

Jamie rammed Dan on the grid, punctured his radiator then drove the car round until the temp guage went off the clock and blew the engine. He did the same thing at Donington. Needless to say he will not be driving a TMS car again.

Bloody hell, what's the point of having gauges if you don't use them???
Thorney
29-09-2009, 12:09 PM
Worse than that, our cars are fitted with Dash 2 displays, they have water and oil alarms go off the whole dash flashes black and white that its actually quite off putting. Jamie ignored it for 7 laps at Donington Park and a lap at Snett. We are looking at the data now.

Nathan has an Aim dash in his, It is growing on me, particularly the live lap times etc, but there is a lot of data on those digi dashes to take in during a race where you may get 1-2 secs a lap to look down and I still dont think you can beat gauges for a quick status update.
If I was hiring out race cars I would simply install a big red light on the dashboard that lit when oil temp / water temps / oil pressure hit certain values.
I would then have an agreement with the driver that when that when the light comes on they stop immediately or foot the bill if they decide to carry on racing.
Then again, Nathan seems to be able to to recall precise oil temps on a per lap basis so maybe I just have no spare capacity in racing mode..

Improve my smoothness/track craft yes - in the knowledge that I'm hopefully improving lap times - but I never time or try to beat any timings previously set.
I do know roughly how quick I am around the Ring for example, but that's only from the odd in-car lap video footage that I have managed to sneak in the past! I am in the low 8 mins and would like to think that I could do a sub 8 mins lap at some point but I do not routinely time laps.
Again, I only roughly know lap times at the UK tracks I have been to due to video footage.
When people start chasing that 'elusive' time barrier is when things can come unstuck, IMHO (without wishing to sound like a boring old fart...!) I just enjoy the drive and occasional scalp from a GT3...
shimmy
20-10-2009, 09:37 PM
Yep you are right Rob, it can be dangerous to chase times and to be honest even though I know my best times and do like to improve on them I do that by improving my driving ability or set up rather than going over the 95% effort level that is normal for most TD drivers.

apart from it being an open forum Stu and not wanting to discuss who has and doesnt have data loggers on test days or trackdays, i dont chase times
i talk about times and try to drive faster by learning to drive better, just like you.
data loggers can help by analysing performance afterwards and helps, like it did with me, see if me or the car are not working very well
chasing times is dangerous especially for those that risk it by watching times as they drive

Well put Rob and Shimmy. Chasing times in road cars on track just leads to trouble. For me it's pure fun and enjoyment of using a cars performance keeping my licence safe. Save the stopwatch for racing.
It's far safer in a race car built to regs. I prefer to save my time chasing for kart racing (EKC Endurance Pro-Karts). Good, cheap value for money motorsport with real and tough competition but above all comparatively safe.
