Feeling rather glad that i renewed my warranty back in April as i have had 2 claims since...
1st claim: Throttle potentiometers went at the Ring back in May - £300
2nd claim: Car went in to have its driver side wishbone replaced after Simpson Motosport noted there was play in the lower ball joint whilst having my KWs fitted recently - £550!
As most of you know, my car is what you might call somewhat 'modified' from standard and is known to be 'occasionally' tracked by the service department lads at my local stealers - who approve of me using a CSL 'properly' :hahaha:
All warranty work done without question :smt023

Good stuff. Trackday use shouldn't ever be a problem for warranty. During the past six years I've had loads of stuff replaced and some of it BECAUSE I was doing a trackday in the near future :hahaha: (like a diff that I thought sounded iffy and told them I didn't want it to let go down Craners)

This makes good reading as I always wonder, even though mine is pretty standard.
They even replaced an exhaust bracket on mine a couple of months ago, even though I've got a Milltek fitted! No questions asked!

Yep the warranty gets the big thumbs up from me and i will be renewing next year...
You only have to look at Marks example to realize that it's a must.
I know this is a blast from the past, but a similar question in the same vein:
I'm considering taking up the warranty as the car can be covered... looking at it though, and speaking to the reps, they won't cover wear and tear.
I'd imagine problems with clutch/SMG would be considered wear and tear to a degree... do you guys think they would cover things like sgm pumps going bad?
(Is this a can of worms?)

my advice it take the BMW warranty if you are doing more than 5k miles a year
however BMW replaced my Clutch, flywheel and gearbox at 45k miles with no warranty!

I think it depends if your are near a stealer who knows how to look after a CSL, mine are clueless and I will be looking to take it further a field to somewhere with a good record.
I need to get mine in soon as I have a few bits that need to be done so any recommendations would be good
Yorkshire area but willing to travel to a good one ;)
Where was Mark's garage

dealers can be scared to ask,
but BMW UK certainly seem to have put some money aside for any non wear faults with the CSL even up to 60k miles or more so dont be scared to ask and try a deifferent dealer like Murketts.

Murketts
that's where I was thinking, a bit of a trek but I'm sure they would sort a loan car out .....

No limit on annual mileage, but the cover stops at 100k miles iirc? The policy price almost doubles on reaching 60k - i am at 58k!
Just need to have the car serviced by BMW to maintain cover...

Well let's put it this way, I wouldn't still own the car if it hadn't had a warranty . . . .
2 x Rear springs
2 X Rear top monts
1 X Alarm ECU
1 X drivers door window regulator
1 X Vanos unit . . . .
2 X rear toe arms and a KDS
1 X SMG pressure sensor
1 X Alternator
2 X Front wheel bearings
2 X door lock assemblys
Add in the diagnostic labour and fitment charges and as Tom said to Nick the Greek in LS&TSB "It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the Sale of the f*cking Century!"

Feck me! That's some list of repairs! Are they all jobs that have been done since your ownership from last year? Makes my couple of warranty jobs look pitiful! :hahaha:
BTW - are you using your car for something like the Paris-Dakar rally?

Wow! Lots of warranty claims! Mine has only had clutch, bonnet switch and radio on warranty. No other grumbles as yet. And that's over 20,000 miles of use!

Yep all carried out within the first 12 months (and 18,000 miles) of ownership
The car's used as it's makers intended :hahaha: all road miles (albeit a lot of them very hard ones around Europe)
I think there are good cars and bad ones, I admit I'm a fussy git and take my car in for one thing and "mention" other issues, perhaps my local dealer is short of work so they tend to fix everything under warranty ?
Either way, I don't think I'd have tolerated so many issues on a car without a warranty.

Has anyone on here successfully managed to claim on the rear box bracket ie the piece that holds it to the centre section. The bracket is holding together with its counterpart but there is a cut in oval shaped bracket so it is only a matter of time.
The trouble is because the exhaust end is fluted the bracket cannot be removed and replaced. It would mean that the whole rear box would need to be replaced just because of the bracket. Obviously the exhaust is not covered under warranty.
I just wonder if anyone has managed it on the basis that the part is not made for purpose ie I have only 28,000 miles on the clock. Surely a bracket shoud last longer than that :banghead:.
I did see a post mentioning sucess on MTorque but assume this was covered under the initial 3 year warranty.

I wish it was but "exhaust components" are excluded under the BMW warranty except for the cataylitic converter.

Mark, how did you get around the exclusion for exhaust components then? Did the dealer even mention it? Mine came straight back to me ans said "No, it is not covered as it is part of the exhaust system".
Are you sure it was not done as a favour. I am not sure how I should approach the dealer now.

Have you got the full all singing dancing warranty? There are 3 levels of cover iirc
Yep..
Comprehensive
Named
Driveline
I have the list of what it covers, and actually nowhere does it say 'exhaust'... even under comprehensive (there's obviously 'engine')

My Newly acquired SG CLS has 13 ! pages of WARRANTY work since day one. The most recent being a NEW Clutch + Duel Mass Flywheel and complete VANOS overhaul including both VANOS units, all gaskets, hoses etc.. U name it, it had it. Strange, as I thought these E46 engines didn't have VANOS issues of the E36 M3 EVO cars, but I'm not complaining as it's good to have so many NEW bits bolted to my NEW Steed and all under further two years warranty from the dealer

I think it really does depend on the garage. At my last service I was told my my power steering pump was leaking but not enough to be changed, my red battery light comes on intermittent, but as its not on when parked in the dealers car park they cant find a fault, when going through the gears quickly it hesitates/slips before the power kicks in, dealer, ur were not sure about that one etc etc
I'm sure if I take it to a known CSL garage they would just change the power steering pump, change the alternator and change the flywheel and clutch :banghead: and I think the baffles are loose in the rear back box ?
when I get chance I will be phoning Murketts to see if I can leave it with them....
