View Full Version : CSL Inspection II
The big service, valve clearances, spark plugs, gearbox/diff oil, the lot, after ringing round I got the cost down from a whopping £1245 +VAT with Benham to £704.26 +VAT (£808 for those that cant claim it back;)) with Sytnre @ Oldbury, I thought that was rather good, gonna buy some bits for our new track warrior with the change:hahaha:
And they sorted out the non working central locking, warranty comes good again, saved me £280 :supz:
15500 miles till it needs another service, sorta tempted to keep it now, car needs for nothing, and TBH I love the new stereo too!!

The parts are close to that total so something isn't right. Perhaps they didn't bother doing the valve clearances????

Sounds more like some of the labour was "ahem" covered by the warranty ;)

Most dealer do special rates for older M cars now...no one should have to pay £1000 for an inspection 11 these days...My was £750 last year at Gloucester.

The service team must have been loving you guys with 2 CSLs to tinker with!
(I wasnt stalking by the way, in case your thinking how did I know about both cars being there, I went to look at Hazy's fantastic example of a Black CSL :supz:)

FWIW I've been getting quotes recently for a CSL ins II,
Stratstone Derby £1150,
Sytner Nottingham £908,
Murketts £1050 (all inv VAT)
Is there anywhere in the midlands cheaper? I'm more than likely going to sell or PX my CSL in the near future and if I sell will probably get the Ins II done first.
Sytner Nottingham £908,
Sytner Olbury £808 inc vat, tell Notts to price match:thumbs:

Synter's
Oldbury = 767
Coventry = 847
Central Brum = 896
Sutton = 799
Leicester = 911
Rybrook Warwick = matched oldbury as its my local dealer = 767
Thorney = £750

My inspection II is over due, any local dealers down south worth considering?
It displays -400 to inspection II, due to my 7 mile journey to work and back, counting down quicker! Would you say it wouldn't do it harm to take it on track with this - figure?

If they don't keep it overnight I don't believe that they have checked the valve clearances. The vast majority of the E46 M3's that I see don't need any adjustment, but you can't even check them unless the engine is stone cold.
I add that I am a Mercedes specialist (you may have guessed that...), but occasionally get one or two BMW through the door.

All the above dealers that I rang said they would need it over night as it had to be cold for some of the work - trouble is there is no way of checking other than some form of mark on the rocker cover to show they've removed it. The old hair across the door job spy style:bigcry::bigcry:

But would be on old, 10000mile+, oil, unless you change it between intervals.

most modern oils are good for 50000 miles before they start to loose their properties under normal use mate.
I use Valvoline in my trucks, their recommended period is 70000 miles, roughly a year for a truck:thumbs:

I wouldn't be too bothered as the difference between INSP 1 and INSP 2 is small anyway. On the INSP 2 you get everything from the INSP 1 plus new spark plugs, new air filter and a bit of oil! The extra cost of those minor items shouldn't be too much higher than what you'd pay for INSP 1.

Unfortunately BMW Park Lane, with the Service department in "Battersea" is the most expensive BMW main dealer in the UK, if not continental Europe. They are suppose to be very good with CSLs but you do pay heavily for their expansive London location. The previous owner of my SG CSL paid £1200 :119: for an inspection 2 there in the middle of last year and that was with a touch of discount. Try the highly recommended (by me and many others :thumbs:) Andy Pressland @ BMW Murketts as he'll almost certainly save U a small fortune (make sure U ask about the 6+ discount plan, if your CSL is over 6 years old). They are based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire which is just up the A1M, about 70 miles north of London so U could have a nice drive up there, at the same time and it shouldn't cost too much in petrol either (if U keep her steady) :hahaha:. Win Win :thumbs:
mine went to loughton sytner for £850 in the end, you can get it cheaper then that at other dealers.

Right gents (and ladies)
Battersea have reduced their quote to £950, which is a lot better than their laughable first informal stab at £1,400, but they still seem OTT to me.
£100 or even £200 gets a lot of Super Unleaded...
Anyone had one recently? Murketts seem highly recommended on here?
Thanks in advance.

I shopped around and got insp II for £675 from Castle Motors BMW York, so some dealers are reasonable. The staff was even shocked when I went into pay and I had to tell them I had spoke to the manager, they checked with him before letting me pay as it was sooooo cheap:thumbs::thumbs:

Dragging up an old thread as I'm booking my car into get her 1st InspII when I return from Offshore this time. Couple of quotes I've got over here in NI for information purposes incl.
David Prentice Omagh - £800 (me supplying own oil and no air filter change)
JKC Coleraine - £800 (me supply own oil only)
The Country Garage - £775 (me supplying own oil and no air filter change)
In Scotland
Phoenix BMW in Kirkcaldy - Circa £1000
Will probably end up going with JKC as I've a mate that works there and I like to think he'll have her looked after.
£1400 is just mental!!! Scary in fact.
I just spoke to Andy at Murkett's today for my Insp 2 and have agreed at £840 at the moment, that I assume is inc. VAT!
What's this 6+ thing all about then?

What set off your suspicions regarding the clutch and flywheel?It had pretty bad clutch slur,Murketts tried to reset the SMG,but it was still slurring like a fooker,mainly at 4-5k revs.So they gave me a new clutch and flywheel at 62k miles,its now as sharp as it should be.:thumbs:

Mine only slurs when on 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and first thing in the morning when everything is cold :whistle: Once heated up it's fine, I don't lift at all anymore, let the car do the work when up or down shifting and touch wood it's been fine lately, funnily enough I took it to work this morning and it felt sharp as a pin! :bigcry: :banghead:
