View Full Version : Newbie in 'is this any good' thread shocker!
Hi all,
Thought I was tap the wealth of knowledge of CSL owners with regards to my up coming purchase. I'm on the lookout for a CSL (or a few other options, but CSL does tick most boxes) and so thought I'd ask your opinion on the below two examples...
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1138591.htm - 5 owners, apparently great condition bar a few stone chips, all updates done with 11 months BMW warranty ...
or...
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1120541.htm - 8 owners, upgraded stereo (2k worth), but warranty is paid on a month by month basis.
Anyone recognise or can pass any info on about the above two examples?
(P.S. if one of the owners of the above are on here I hope you don't mind me posting this information, better to be safe than sorry ;))

just a note on the second one re the owners. My old one had 8 owners and really shouldnt influence your purchase - however they do not mention the fact in the advert leading me to think about "why hide such a fact & what else arent they telling me?"
I would offer £23,500 for the first one and be prepared to drive it away ;)
This first one also makes no mention of owners but the crucial part for me would be the first ones next service is an oil in 11,000 miles but the second is an Insp II in 7000 miles
Insp II = £900+
Oil = £200 ish

Of course it is, it nearly £6,000 more expensive! That's, like, another car. lol

Ah..the short sighted approach....;)
it has £1100 of new stereo upgrade, new £1100 warranty, £1200 Insp II tomoz, £1000 new tyres recently, PROPER detail £300 today.
£29k - that lot = £24300 for a 26000 mile car. Bargain.
Just kidding, good luck in your search, tip from me buy on condition, low track miles and complete and proper service history mate, mileage is less important other than the lower mileage cars will command a higher price naturally.

Very good value IMO, I've seen the car and it did look as described. Running costs will be peanuts only needing oil service in next +20k miles and even tyres sorted. I think you're crazy selling so cheap.

From the car's I have seen/driven (and including std M3's) mileage ain't an issue for these engine's etc.

I used to own the second one, some years ago. ( 1 of the 8 !) It was a good car when I had it but would not entertain paying over £20k for it now, as the 9th or 10th owner ! It may not affect the car but it certainly affects resale price.
The prices over the last few months seem to be now on a sharp drop, after a reasonable summer, so my advice is to leave it a couple of months a save yourself some money.
Thanks all for the advice! After a lengthy and very enlightening conversation with Craig last night, which I am eternally grateful for, I have decided not to entertain the 2 options I originally opted for.
With a low budget such as mine (around the 23k mark) it looks like a decent CSL is probably just out of my budget for the meantime... so will either have to wait until they hopefully drop a bit (well, hopefully for me, not for all you guys!) or go with the other option of TVR T350 or Exige S.
Thanks for all the input fellas!
