View Full Version : CSL Roof?
I'm getting my roof replaced soon due to peeling lacquer - would there be any value in keeping the old one - would it sell on ebay maybe?

I'm sure there would be someone on ebay (or elsewhere) that would want it, peeling lacquer or not!

I was speaking to BMW today about this and decided against replacing the roof for now as mine has gone similar but not enough to tearing the roof out.
I'd be interested to know how you get on Mole.

He needs a roof of less weight I reckon
As I have had a fair bit of interest in this, here are some photos.
Here is a closeup of the peeling lacquer section at the front of the roof. It started life as a stone chip (which can be seen) and water got underneath and it spread. There is slight dis-colouration where the original patch was (can be seen in the pic below)

There is also a "chip" about the size of a 5 pence in the middle of the roof - it was like it when I bought the car and I think it has been sealed as it hasnt spread.

This roof would be perfect for a track/race car - it may also be able to be reburbished for a road car (this is what the bodyshop were going to do before we deicided to replace it - at a cost of £2.5k!)
It's currently on my car, coming off in the next week and the bodyshop say it will come off cleanly and be able to go back on another car.
It will need collecting (either personally or by courier) from Milton Keynes.
£Offers welcome.

Someone will buy it I'm sure, but we need to make sure the insurance company dont claim it as in theory its theirs, they sometimes sell them for salvage. Replacement with new roof is pretty straight forward, just a pita.
John, I have asked Steve to hang on to it for a bit, we can then see what the insurance company does - can't see them claiming it but you never know - but you are right, it is technically theirs - but what's the harm if it's going in a skip anyway!

How is the roof skin removed, presume its bonded on with the same substances as windows? Expertese needed to unbond or can someone who is competant with working on cars remove it?
