Was invited by a few friends from my bad old days with R5 GTT's to their National Day at Mallory Park.

It was a good cheap day, £45 open pitlane all day! Bargin. Was plenty of traffic about but was good fun, if a little small to stretch the CSL legs! Couple of my mates in the RTOC have M3's and one of them took this video with "added quotes". Quite funny, thought it would be appreciated here. :hahaha:

Alex

I didn't know you were an old 5 GT Turbo boy??????

I was heavily involved in the owners club back in the day and was the events co-ordinator for a while.

I had a red phase 1 then a 5 with a 4x4 Cosworth engine and running gear in.

They were the days

Yes my brother has a Twin Engined R5 Turbo. He could not make the weekend which was a shame.

We used to camp at Santa Pod on the old Fast car UFC weekends.

Back in the day when a low 15 sec quarter was deemed quick for a 5 lol...

That Videos too funny. I was cracking up sitting here, nice one.

Was that an M5 that went by with the comment about the Coupe?

Bealo, I bet that single window wiper conversion made some difference on the straights, eh?

Bealo! Amazing. What a small World. Indeed I well remember your car and what a sad ending it had! :bigcry: That was an awesome build. Think I still have the magazine feature on it. Was it in Fast Car, before it became a soft porn mag? :hahaha:

I bought my first 5GTT 2 years old in 1993 and was in the club from 1996! Yes, I remember Santa Pod National Days and attending UFC. Awesome memories. Still have a totally mint ph1 electric blue GTT stored in my barn. Wife wouldn't let me sell it because she says we have way to many memories and good times in it! Haven't driven it for years but I still have plenty of mates from back in the good old days of the RTOC or Renault 5 GT Turbo Owners Club as it was then.

LOL at quick 14-15 sec 1/4 mile and 13 sec was for the elite! :hahaha: Do you remember GT Tunings "13 second club polo shirts"? :gayfight: The fastest 5 GTT (std 1.4 C1J lump) 1/4 mile is now 11.15 @128mph believe it or not. :smokin:

It was an M3 pram mate, hence the "don't feel safe, wish I'd bought a coupe" comment. :hahaha:

Yes it is a small world and one that i could reminisce over for some time.

My car was on the front cover of Revs mags. The only reason it was Revs mags was because Neil Hunt worked there.

I would love to come to a meeting and see who's still there.

I had a chance a few years back to buy my first phase 1 that had been left to rot!!! i was going to restore it but a few days before i was picking it up it was stolen :bigcry:

Hats off to you for storing a Blue phase 1, that was quite a rare colour.

Bloody hell 11.15 @ 128 is bloody rapid. the last fastest time i saw was Stuart Clarke at 11 something and 122mph.

Yes i remember Roland at GT Tuning and his Tee shirts :hahaha: He moaned when my Cossie did a 12.64 cause it wasn't a proper engine.... Like i was bothered.

Some of the club members have started to used the 1.8 Audi engine haven't they????

Yes, Stuart Clarke has dropped it a bit lower now. There are one or two VAG engined ones about now and also turbo'd 172/182 examples as well. But, amazingly none have yet bettered a whole load of C1J engined 5's!

We'll keep in touch and I'll let you know when the next gathering might be. They are very much more adventureous these days with plenty of Euro and Ring trips thrown in. It's always great to get back to Old Skool 5 turbo days. Some of the best times I've ever had. :partyman:

My blue ph1 missing it's front grill at the moment!

Not entirely sure if this old post will still be active and you'll see this or even infact.... how I've even happened across this, but wow memories are flooding back lol.. I was one of the first members (number 5 I think) of the r5toc I was north east representative, my car can be seen (just) it's the white phase one with the Ax gt spoiler on it...infact if memory serves me correct bealo Im sure I put you I touch with the lad who supplied the shell for your conversion
As you had the phase one in red and black....I attended the shows n meets with a few lads from up here you may remember foggy (raider) Daz Johnstone (red phase two later prima wide bodied) and my then girlfriend Tracy who I sold white phase one to and then bought a raider which I wide bodied..I'll hunt out some pics had my cars in revs, fast car and max power... Spent fortune on them...

Renault 19 16v , 1.9 GTI and 309 GTi and a many Astra GTE's for me .. mainly 16v proper faster in a straight line just needed suspension to help it go round corners .. Those old GTE 16v could top out at 160back then !

The digital dash used to flash when you got there lol

Flashing digi dashes ????? Mine never did that ???
I had the Astra digi dash in my Nova turbo. It had about 310 bhp so it would do 160 mph easily.

Problem was the digi dash stopped counting at 159 mph !!!

I used to go to USC 13.04 @ 111 was my best with 280 bhp.

I loved watching the R5 lads changing head gaskets in the Santa pod field in 45 mins !

I'll upload a great picture of mine doing a pre burnout. See if anyone remembers it.

Great days
