Guys,

Its that time again when the CSL needs its insurance. I have been quoted £820 fully comp (Sainsbury's Insurance) with my wife as a named driver & 4k per year mileage. Can anyone recommend any companies who can offer specialist policies for the CSL, alternatively a company who can do a bespoke insurance. I have heard that there are companies that will consider a policy where the car is SORN off the road and can be coverd this way, this is ideal for me as it will be off the road throughout winter.

Any advice welcome. :smt023

Cheers
Rich

Ah yes forgot about that...Oh hold on there are two baby seats in the back does that count as modified.

Out of interest do you tell you insurance company if you have mods like AP's etc...does it really effect price?

You have to Andy otherwise your insurance could be null and void - and they are likely to put the price up a little too (I think I was quoted an extra £100). Our argument is that better brakes mean less chance of an accident. Theirs is that better brakes means you're more inclined to drive faster so increasing the chances.

James.

I declared APs and was an additional £80 from memory. Its not something you can hide a BBK.

its not the quality of the houses that count but the amount fo cars that are nicked!

your best friend is ring and try as many as possible

as an example my Aviva policy run for 8 years thru all my cars then i wanted trackday cover and they refused to cover me so i went last year to HIC.

THen this year i tried Aviva again just for road use and they refused as i 'went on track' as well. i found the Comp Car Ins policy that included trackdays and to my surprise the policy was with Aviva....

Keep ringing round, dont bother witht the Tinternet

Competition Car Insurance have done me proud again!

My insurance is due for renewal next month but i have already used my 4 days policy included track day cover for this current insurance year, and the MLR Spa track day is coming up in a few days...

So, I rang CCI expecting to pay £60+ to add an additional day track cover for this year to then be informed that CCI now provide 5 days TD cover for policies as standard now and that they would add an extra day TD cover to my existing policy - FOC! Result!

I think CCI will be gaining my custom again for next year

Flux Direct just called and queried my csl valuation saying they have found one at a dealers for £22k. She didn't know anything about it as it was another dept who did the searching but there cant be one out there with 30k on the clock for £22k. Must be a normal M3? or a high mileage csl?

Anyway, £207 protected NCB.

ETA, found the £22k one... CAT D !!!!!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201016357060811/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/3l_to_3-9l/maximum-age/up_to_7_years_old/model/m3/make/bmw/page/4/postcode/po333by/radius/1500?logcode=p

Felt compelled to call them but was told the girl I spoke to was wrong and they go by Parkers where value is £22k. Worrying really as how would you replace your csl if god forbid it was written off? I know of a friend of a friend whose csl was written off a good few years back but they couldnt find one to replace it with the same mileage so he got one with lesser mileage worth more. Would they do that? Anyone know of someones csl who has been written off and how they replaced it considering they are hard to find?

Well that question certainly seemed to kill the thread :hahaha::hahaha::hahaha:

I cant imagine any insurance company saying 'we will insure you for TF at the Ring' but there are still some insurance companies that dont specifically exclude the Ring, which probably gives you a fighting chance if you do have a mishap.

I too am still wondering what CCI stance is, maybe silence says it all.

CCI don't cover the Ring - as per most other insurers. The ones who may not yet exclude the Ring are probably the type of insurer who wont insure a CSL anyway

To get Ring specific insurance you need to go with MORIS (Everitt Boles) or similar. It's not cheap though...

Out of interest, do all on here who are insured with CCI know this?

So hypothetically, if I were to have a crash at the ring (assuming it was the other persons fault) with someone on here who is insured with CCI and knowingly drives on the ring without *any* insurance, I'd be screwed and would have to sue them to reclaim any damage to my car (or worse, myself or a passenger).

Is this fair? Worthy of discussion.

Not really true steve, The other person is technically insured 3rd party through the legal obligation of the insurance company even though it says they are not insured so to speak. You would be paid out by their insurance but they would have to repair their own car, then their insurance company "could" try to reclaim cost of payout from their customer.

Thats a scary thought.

I could tell the wife:)
'i caused a big crash, the car is written-off and we are not insured so we have lost £25k . . . . . '
but it would be difficult to add
. . . . . . . 'and when our insurance company has paid-out the personal injury claims and repairs to the other cars they will be coming to take everything else that we own'

That's what will have happened to a British M5 driver recently after he caused a 6 car crash - the bill was probably circa €400,000...

I think probably the vast majority of non-German insured drivers at the Ring drive the TF uninsured.

On UK track days of course, someone can crash into you and write off your car but is still not liable to pay you a single penny towards repair. That's why i have track insurance...

I done the rear last weekend myself getting some help with the front this weekend. Got the rear set as per your thread. :thumbs:Hopefully get the car finished this weekend. Track day next Sunday RS Owners club at knockhill I would still do a swap to get an escort cosworth back for the right price.

Not really true steve, The other person is technically insured 3rd party through the legal obligation of the insurance company even though it says they are not insured so to speak. You would be paid out by their insurance but they would have to repair their own car, then their insurance company "could" try to reclaim cost of payout from their customer.
Is that still true if the insurance company specifically excludes the ring in writing (their small print) though? My understanding was if they exclude in writing (as CCI do) then this didn't apply. I could be wrong though (and hope I am!)

I think CCI should put some money back into this forum after all the business that has gone their way of late from here! :hahaha:

It would be nice, but they now sponsor thier own race series which is also televised! Unfortunately I doubt they've got a lot left for us! Lol

Shane, exclusions are exclusions mate and if an insurer can avoid paying something especially when their point of cost recovery looks less than reliable then they will! Basically, if your policy excludes the Ring and you choose to drive there anyway, then anything or anyone you hit is coming out of your pocket! :banghead: :(

Adrian Flux are 'fucking arseholes'! That's a technical term! I've worked in insurance 11 years now and 've never come across a bigger bunch of pricks in all my life! :banghead:

My insurance is due early Dec and CCI have invited my renewal at £883, I'm 27 with 4 yrs NCB, 1 fault claim in last 5 years and clean license, totally standard car, I wasn't overly pleased to be honest! I spoke to them and they have now dropped to £836 but I still want the policy starting with a £7 so I'll try again next week and see how much more premium they might be carrying on the policy! :banghead:

CCI mate, £775 including the 5 track days and only £300 excess, I'm 30 and the wife is 26, 4 years no claims, both clean licences but 1 claim in 2009 where I killed my hawkeye sti

Swiftcover was the next best price at £1197 but £1000 excess.

Ive been with Flux for many years, Cosworth with over 400BHP, 4X4 Sierra etc etc......
Had a claim a few years ago after the 4X4 was taken, never had a problem, paid out in 14 days and above the market value, never had a problem with them to be honest

Try Classicline 01455 639 000 BUT only speak to Darren Coote and by all means say you had been recommended via forum by steve haslam
ps no connection other than been with Classicline for at least last 12 years or maybe more and found them very good , albeit I have had no claims but would expect second to none as per rest of their service.

Well... I too cancelled 2 months in as planned discussing it them before taking it out as the car was going to be SORN for the winter.

I was told a dozen times the policy would be pro rata, as I know how some companies work and dont part refund. BOOOM! ...Then when canceling the policy they tried it on saying it wasn't a pro rata policy! I told em to listen to their fookin recorded conversion they had with me then call me back to tell me they didn't say it was wasnt pro rata. Got the call back.. 1-0 to me so far!!

Then they hit me with a 18.5% charge of the full annual amount (£499), oh and 3 weeks in from the policy starting I get a circa £250 additional charge to some adjustments they made to my policy after the policy was taken up. Cancelation charge also on top of all this, which I was aware of normally only aprox. £25, so not too bad there.

I was made v.clear I wouldn't have any hidden charges to pay. That soon changed.... Would I deal with them again out of choice... Ermm NO!!

CCI can have my business next season if they take me on next yr round. :hahaha:
