BMW have agreed to give me a new steering wheel foc on a good will, as long as i pay to have it fitted, not sure what the cost of that will be but it goes in to the garage tomorrow so will find out then, worth trying if you fancy a free new steering wheel though.

That wheel looks exactly like mine did before I cleaned it ;)
Seriously - get a wire brush and shampoo then clean it and comb it gently it with the brush to get the alcantara back looking new again.

Nice one Scott, good work mate. I tried your dealer 3 years ago for a new steering wheel and I was told they'd have to have the warranty guy have a look at it. Ended up getting one no bother from HB in Glasgow. It lasted about 20K before I bought another one off Ebay for £250 and sold mine on for £280 By the time I paid the ebay fees, I was neither up nor down.
Funny, I was thinking just the other day I hadn't seen you around the forum for a wee while. Spacers are on BTW, giving the front end that wee bit more meaner look, cheers.

Got the new wheel fitted, had to pay £52 for the fitting, it feels much softer than the wheel that was on and obviously looks brand new, not a bad result considering the cost of a new wheel from BMW.

Thats a real result Scott....who did you shag to get that.....my dealer told me to sod off.

Try another dealer Andy, its been proven they don't all give the same level of service, its not up to the dealer to decide if you get a goodwill, its down to BMW but you need a dealer to ask for you obviously.

Would do but no warrenty so would imagine I would not stand a chance.

Ive got no warranty on mine either, its not a warranty item, you would be better asking when it goes in for a service as apparently if the car has not been in a garage and a goodwill is requested it will be turned down, something to do with BMW being able to see that its been in and connected to the system, just what i was told when i asked about it originally.

 - I'm amazed BMW replace these so readily when , I reckon, 90% of the time they just need a clean. Mine looked exactly the same as Scotts (smooth and shiney) before I gave it a good clean.

Pantene . I should offer a steering wheel refurbishment service. I may have to speak to BMW about it - I charge them £100 for each steering wheel I clean (in 10 minutes) , they save on replacement costs. Win-Win. :supz:
James.
BMW's having a look at mine whilst it is in. They said they'll see what they can do under the warranty :)
Pantene is nice, but a new steering wheel is nicer.

I can't fix those :)
All I know is that my wheel was EXACTLY like the one in Scotts picture and it's now as good as new after a clean.

Bobble - just set about it with an electric shaver before cleaning it.

This thread inspired me to clean my wheel tonight. Came up nice as usual.
The guy next door leaned over the fence and caught me at the shaving stage. He was truely puzzelled, thought I'd gone nuts. :hahaha: I started to explain but gave up trying to convince him of the benefits and had a beer with him instead.
