Not a good one to be fair


Went to pick my car up from York as I dropped it off on Monday for inspection II service all good and a good price.


Coming home heard a noise . . . . next the flat tyre light comes on the dash. Stopped got out the M mobility pack and pumped up the tyre only to find that the air was coming out as fast as I could put it in. There is a hold on the inside side wall:banghead:.

Ring BMW emergency @16.15 . . . . . gets picked up @18.30 then the breakdown truck gets a puncture!!! Had to go to their depot and swap trucks. Got home 10 mins ago:banghead:


Got to price up a new tyre now, but I am wondering should I fit two new rears or will it be ok with one new?

Shit day then....

I would say that it would be best to replace both unless the one was replaced not that long ago.

5mm tread left on the other rear tyre.

Different wear on the tyres could cause premature wear on the diff albeit I'm not sure what the tolerance will be. I also don't know what tyres you run so I don't know what the initial, new tread depth would be to compare to 5mm.

265/30R19 93Y MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 2 (PS2) XL

Might end up buying two new ones. Best price I have found so far is £594.78 fitted.

Anyone say if that is a good price?

I think brand new PS2s are about 8mm tread?

£595 fitted is about as good as you will get for 2 new Michelin PS2s as they tend not to get discounted - just like Cup tyres :smt012

Did the tyre get a blowout or do you think it might have been punctured at the Stealers????

If has crossed my mind. The tyre didn't blow out, it just wouldn't seal due to the hole being on the sidewall on the inside of the tyre.

You should have got us to do the service, half the price, same parts used. bmw stamp in book, and you would have saved on 2 tyres:whistle:

I have just bought a full set of falken fk452 for £425 for all 4.
Ill let you know how they are, as im fitting them on monday:thumbs:

I bought the car from rich w.

It had dunlop on the front and continental on rear (quite low on tread)
And i dont like conti's. Never liked the feel of them....
My business partner used to tune skylines at middlehurst's many moons ago, they used to fit falken to the skylines.
Ive heard decent reviews on them, on here and other forums, and at £420 for all 4 its too cheap not to try them.
Ive got 18's with yokohama a048 for the track and tbh ill prob do 3k a year in my car inc trackdays so i think the falkens will be ok.

I understand about fitting nasty tyres on high power cars, but with having my own garage its very easy to experiment. If they are sheeeite ill take em off, simples.

Ill let you know how i get on.

Ill be honest the ps2 are one of if not the best road tyre
I fitted my 100 cell race cats, and in conjunction with my titanium backbox it sounds swwweeeeeett:supz:

Im fitting my ap brakes and kw clubsport, this week, cant wait.
I also collect my wheels on monday, got them sprayed gloss black, also few other little bits to fit;).:thumbs:

I have found Falkens quite progressive in terms of feel, but lack the ultimate grip of PS2's (prefer Cups :) ). Agree with you on Conti's. Dunlops are pretty good as another alternative.

What sizes have you gone for ?

Just running standard sizes at the moment, then ill try slightly wider i think on the next set. Ill see if i notice a difference:thumbs:

Ill agree with the statement about ultimate grip of the ps2,

I have been using Toyo Proxy T1R's for a while and am going to get a new pair of rears fitted on Tuesday for £420 all-in, which is mid-way between the cheapest and the PS2's.
The tyres are very progressive, which suits me.
I let another csl owner drive my car and initially he hated the tyres, but after a few laps he got used to the feeling and came around to liking them. He never actually bought a set of Toyo's, so i guess he didn't like them that much :hahaha:

Tyres are like marmite:hahaha:

I had a set of t1r's on my evo when i bought it. Did not like them one bit. Took them straight off and binned em.
Ill defo give my honest opinion, albeit only on the road as i have a designated track wheel/tyre combo i switch to on trackdays:thumbs:

Ive had most makes of tyres on various high power cars over the years.
