Tyre Advice (For Nurburgring)

Hi all,

Me again, you must be sick of these questions by now... honestly I do use the search but could only find into out on superceeded tyre versions.

Currently my car has Michlin Pilot Sports (dunno how to tell if there PS1 or PS2!?!) on the front and Continental Conti Sport Contact 3's on the rear. The question is will these be ok for use on the 'Ring or are they going to be totally useless??

I presume the PS's will be ok on the front, but I've never used Conti's and my last car used to run Toyo R888's or Yoko AO48's. I was debating getting a set of Cup's but think it's going to be overkill for my first 'Ring trip in the BM.

However, it's not my first trip there its my 5th and lap times in the Exige were at best mid 8:xx's and on average traffic dependant sub 9:xx's so would like to think it was been driven at a good pace.

Fortunatly it's the first trip in the CSL and i've only had it a day so I'm still going to be learning the car so I will have my sensible head on, I just want to make sure than the Conti's aren't going to melt on me.

Speaking of over heating, what pressures do people run, more so what pressures do people run at the 'Ring??

When we all go to the ring i am not sure if i will run cups or the falkens
as i have not been before so might not get the best out the cups.

I used PS2s for my first 3 trips to the Ring with the CSL and they faired very well with sub 8.45m laps. I have also done a few UK track days using PS2s too. They are a good option for Ring trips just in case the weather turns bad.

I find PS2s nice and progressive on track and you will know when they are approaching their limits. I use Cup tyres now BTW :thumbs:

Hi Craig,
As has been said the Conti's are fine, I shall be out there next weekend too from Friday to Sunday.
A mate of mine will be there sat and sun with his CSL and he is on Continentals as far as I can recall.
Id say you should aim for about 33-34psi hot.
I normally like to run about 32psi hot in the cups but the guys in black falcon recon this is a little low to cope with the compression.

Sure I spoke to Nathan last year when I was out in the Exige, i'll have a pop over mine will be easy to spot its the grey one.... ohh wait lol. OK second thoughts look for YC53 EMP, it has black kidney grills, smoked front indicators and hamann black side vents.

all i would say Craig is just make sure your tyre choice is not getting rid of the natural understeer of the car (by making it too grippy on the front) as thats the best way of ending up in the armco and all that ensues

it would worry me that the contis were on the rear as chances are that is you have PS2 on front and contis on the rear you will start to get some oversteer if you are running hot:beer:

Yeh, noticed the lack of under steer so its pretty much going to be like an S1 Elise and suffer snap off oversteer... I have already noticed this on the road and will make sure I learn the car before going for hot laps.
