Best 18" Wheel & Tyre sizes for track only.

After running the cups for 1 1/2 track days and a few road miles i can see that this is going to be an expensive necessary from now on so i have decided to get a dedicated set of track wheels.

I think the best way to go is 18" for the better options/price on track tyres.

What do yo think the best width wheels is best? ie, same width all round or the standard staggered size. I'm thinking same size all round but how wide??? 8.5"-9"????

Also what tyre sizes? 265 width all round or will that foul the front arches???

Anyone know any suppliers of part worn track tyres????? :thumbs:

i personally would go for the TD Pro1.2 as well but all in one size to suit the Cups so you can switch the fronts to back and save even more trye wear.

Probably go for the 9.0 or 9.5 wide inch rims all round and 265/35x18 Cups

i am led to beleive they will make these rims for you or even now 10 inch wide rims

I'm tempted to give the 888's a try, i know they are meant to wear out a bit quick but i'm thinking the Cups aren't lasting that good either....

How long are you guys getting out of a set of cups????

I ran the recommend pressures of 32psi hot but was suffering bad understeer on the front left.

I guess i'm still getting to understand them on track but they seem to go off and understeer very quickly....

you should get around 4-5 from the front and maybe 5-7 from the rears as long as you dont cook them, therefore keeping pressures 32 hot and sessions no longer than say 20 mins ish to be safe

on top of that toe and camber needs to be right to keep the wear down as well

Seriously though, are you running additional negative camber? I have the Turner camber plates and run 10mm spacers on the fronts and have no issues.

I initially had premature wear issues over the centre contact patch of my Cup tyres but i was running lower pressures than recommended to avoid tyre delamination on a hot track day. Since then i have stuck to 32psi and they are wearing more uniformly :thumbs:

FYI, I have done 42 laps of the Ring and a track day at Spa. Rears still have at least 50% life left, fronts a tad less - say 35%. Spa really hammered them though - i think short UK tracks would too...

Do you find the tyres take time to get working and then go off/slide around quickly????

I'm not sure if the suspension settings i've got from Daz are a bit stiff....

i find that fro lap one you hit it hard but with some caution and by the end of the lap they are up to temp (dont go easy on them)

it takes around 20 mintues normally to get them to go off unless very hot track temps.

in the summer i normally find the Cups will do say 20 mins wheras the T888 will be off before 15 mins
