I have aquired a strange rattling noise from the passenger side rear wheel.
It sounds like a rattling noise and only happens when i go over bumpy road.
i have had the wheel off and checked the brake and suspension unit and have found nothing loose.
The strange thing is the rattle goes when i apply the brakes, i have left braked whilst driving and the noise defo disappears when i am on the brakes. This fact alone worries me and i have had a second look at the brakes etc.
The car drives fine with no noticable effects apart from the horrible noise.
Any ideas guys?????
I will take the car in to my Mech on Monday but would like to get to the bottom of this before then if possible.
Thanks in advance.

I have had similar noises lately Stu, noticed them going over speed bumps slowly.
My AP brakes have always rattled from fitting (rather annoyingly) but i had noticed a different knocking recently. When my car was in the garage last week i asked BMW to check the rear suspension/springs, etc.
Turns out my NSR ball joints were dodgy so they have replaced them under warranty :-D

If a balljoint is loose/wear dont drive it hard
Only you and the person who inspects the car for you can make that decision.
My advice to all our customers is, if you are in any doubt, dont drive the car, or if its neccessary to drive, drive slowly and carefully, to get it checked.
Without taking your discs off you can't see if your shoes are loose, or a retaining spring has snapped.
Brakes are a no no left to chance

Panic over.
It turned out to be a loose bolt on the caliper so the caliper was rattling around on the bumpy ground.
Once it was re-torqued all was good.
We checked the overs but they were all ok.....
