I've been looking at replacing my BMW headunit with something better from Alpine.

I have been looking at prices here in the States and the unit i want is well over 50% cheaper

My question is will it be the same as a UK spec unit? if not whats different with it and can i make it work????

Thanks in advance for the help.

I would be put off any aftermarket systems, think they look chav IMO. For increased performance and OEM look go for a cleansweep system.

The USA units dont have RDS for the radio but will work ok.
What is the unit you were after and i can get you a great price here in the UK

Sounds good Mark thanks.

I'm looking at the Alpine CDA-105RI inc Ipod lead

Or something similar but must have full Ipod control, i've got a 160gb Ipod.

I would be a check the frequency spacings on a US spec unit. I seem to recall when I looked into doing the same thing some years ago that in general the frequency spacings are different for the US and UK. Having said that, some US units could be adjusted to suit the UK spacings.

Check before purchase!!

There used to be issues in buying a US spec'd H/U as I looked into one about 6 years ago and after speaking to an Alpine rep back home here, I was told it would be problematic. I think it was to do with the frequencies. I ended up paying up full UK price for the H/U but sold it on when I sold the car as didn't want to ruin the look of the dash in the CSL with an almighty DVD screen.

I agree with Karbonkid below.

For increased performance and OEM look go for a cleansweep system.

Thanks Mark

But I've found cheaper in the UK and the same unit in the States is £116 at the current exchange rate so might be even cheaper in a weeks time the way it's going.
