View Full Version : Milltek exhaust?

Just sounding out ideas here..........
Have been thinking about a Milltek exhaust, it seem that this is about £1000, and the high flow cats add £8-900 on top of that.
I'm not bothered about losing the 'M3 rasp', but how loud is it? With/without high flow cats? Are the cats worth getting? A mate had a Milltek exhaust (+ high flow cats) on his E39 M5 and that was very loud!
I should have paid more attention at the ring/spa last week as I sure one of you would have a milltek or other exhaust on. :banghead:
If not Milltek, what are my other options?
Who's got/done what to their car and are you happy with the results? Worthwhile doing?

ive got stock exhaust and very happy
if i did any exhaust change it would be Supersprint LIGHTWEIGHT Race Back Box to save weight and give it a slightly better sound

HAve changed title to include supersprint & eisenman now as with Shimmy throwing supersprint in, I thought would add Eisenmen into the mix as well......
Same question as above.....
Thoughts people? Back box only? Loudness? value for money* (they all seem to be in the same ballpark)
*GruppeM is excluded due to cost!

Hi, I was at Spa with a rear section Miltek exhaust
The sound is slightly better and the mid range pick up is smoother.
With ECU chipped I got about 5-8 bhp more, ( No big deal )
The down side is the dull frequency resonance around 2,000 to 2,500 rpm in a high gear.
Would I buy one again ? Probably No
Would I change it back ? No

I have the Full exhaust inc Cats and while it has made a difference in performance i agree with TANKSLAPPER when he says he would probably not buy one again.
There would be other things i would buy before the exhaust if i was starting again.
It's not to loud IMO and overall i'm happy with it.

I have a gruppe m which you can hear on my youtube link below. Some people hate it, but I love it. Depends on how loud you want it!

Being anal, I think there's a little confusion over the 'rasp' and where it comes from!
When i had the same system as above i found it over the top noise wise - for a daily driver at least! I took the 100cell cats off in the end as they were driving me mad! This system practically did away with the charecteristic CSL tinny rasp however and replaced it with what i can only describe as more of a 'roar'.
The CSL rasp mainly comes from the thin walled standard centre pipe. Shimmy's (and _Nathan_'s Britcar?) demonstrate the standard rasp in the Spa video that i posted up in the 'Interesting CSL links' section. Shimmy's is the one with gunmetal wheels at the old hairpin and _Nathan_ accelerating away from the pits:

I am actually reverting to a standard centre pipe just to get the 'rasp' back in my life again! :hahaha:

i must disagree!! my car is fqin hillarious and the rasp is there only louder and comes in at much lower rev's, also it pop's and bangs on the overun in the mornings..
drove a csl with just the milltek and no race cats yesterday and it sounded crap compared to mine.
with the race cats people know i am coming and move out of my way swiftly ;)

i must disagree!!
Fair enough. My car had the Miltek race cats (not SS) so whether that made a difference i don't know.
What i do know is that the tinny rasp had gone and the car made so much noise to the point of embarrasment on road. I used to do a lot of 'normal' road driving in my CSL though, which was the main reason i ditched the race cats - that plus my insurers threw a fit when i eventually told them about the cats...! :hahaha:
I think every exhaust set-up offers slightly different charecteristics of course and everyone is different in the way that we prefer a certain particular sound from our cars. I'll report back when i have changed mine again in a few weeks! ;)

Ive never considered changing the exhaust, and dont think I ever will. IMO its perfect just the way it is - though I would like it to pop, and not just when cold.
I may change my opinion if I ever hear a modded one though!

I've got 'just' the Milltek backbox and IMHO its bang on for me. Nice note and looks the berries when all polished up. The pipes 'appear' fatter than standard too but are in fact a wee bit small...I think.

Tim, have you thought about de cats??
I have had the full SS system and wouldn't go back there.
I did however prefer the bigger tips on the back box so I went to a custom exhaust place where they welded some 80mm SS tips on. Then after a lot of research I went for the de cats. What a noise when you put your foot down but when cruising it is OEM silent not like the drone you get from after market systems. It is all rasp and with the induction noise it sounds :supz:
Yes my EML came on after a couple of hundred miles but the car ran fine and seemed to pull easier at higher speeds. For a small outlay I think I have a great set up. I had to take them off for my MOT but they will be back on ASAP. If I get round to it I may look at a map so the EML stays off but it really doesnt bother me

He just de-limited mine, and gave me a couple of extra horses
STILL don't know what to do on the exhaust front........
I think I need to pay a bit more attention next time I see some of you guys with different setups.
Supersprint 100 cell cats + SS resonated centre + SS lightweight backbox = 86db static

I have aye. Bonnet, boot and wheels. I got one for the steering wheel too but its kinda naff so I never bothered fitting it. They are all 'real CF' apart from the steering wheel one.

You just need a 'proper' track sticker on the boot now - not that rather basic doodle that's on there...! ;)

Thats my local track, Knockhill. I've not been to 'thee ring' yet and I'm sick of knobbers cutting about in Corsa's n sh1t with the Ring Sticker on. Ask them what they thought of it and they tell you they got it off Ebay for 3 quid. At least I've been round KH a few times, so I don't feel so bad. :hahaha:
