I have lost my old paper licence so applied for a newer photocard one. I posted the stuff to the DVLA 7 days ago with a mark on the form to say i have the lower part of my left arm missing (from birth), nothing new since i got my licence in 1997.

Soooooo i get a medical form through the post today, i ring the DVLA, the lovely lady says that i need to fill it in in order to process my application. She checks the system and repeats my disability to me over the phone and confirmed it was like that in 1997. So i ask if i still need to fill it in and her reply had me laughing

"We need to know if the condition has got better"

I didnt have the heart to blatently LMAO down the phone as she sounded so sincere (thick as f**k but sincere nevertheless)

Quality! Nice to see that the DVLA employ intelligent people who are able to process the information given to them by license holders and and ask appropriate questions to enable them to assist fully :hahaha:

This gets better!!

I faxed the medical documents last night as i was told this was the best way to get my form processed quicker. I called just 10 minutes ago to confirm they had received and to my show she said it takes 3 days!!! :banghead:

I then said i would of been better posting them, to which she replied that takes 15 days!!!!!!! :banghead::banghead:, She also denied it took 15 days for them to sort and process and that 15 days was the time the letter took to get there.

Just for my information the DVLA is in Wales???? The one attached to England?? :hahaha:

csl_mba, I am in the same boat as you, a one handed driver.

I had a serious accident. So I reapplied for my driving licence shortly after.

The test took all-day, they check for:- reaction speeds, body movements etc
A full eye test including:- colour blindness, reading back to front and upside down

A full two hours driving test including motorway and parking skills
And a full medical

It took three months to get my licence back, they took off my HGV , van and mini bus categories.

And restricted me to a car with automatic, PAS and a suicide knob on the steering wheel .

However the motorbike category was left on and unchanged, The bike was the fooking cause of my disability.

So I can buy a motor bike say an “R1” without modifying it and ride it one handed, legally according to the DVLA ( I don't think so)

Later, They asked me the same question:- "We need to know if the condition has got better"

I told them YES, much better, I now can drive round the Ring in under 8 mins single handed. LOL

Thats a good answer

The thing is i will not need to go for an assessment as its a congenital thing and my licence is already restricted. Typical they leave you with a bloody motorcycle category :banghead:
