12 cars, but i think about 5 invitation cars there including one Kuhmo E30 and 2 E36.
Curly won both standard class races but tbh he was the only one to finish both times, not to say he wouldnt have won anyway
Mod class was a good battle both races between the mod class and some invitation cars. I think it was the best racing of the day i saw and only one off and one car mechanical breakdown.
Ill let Daz tell his story later
We need to get some more cars in the standard class!

That's all I got I'm afraid. Prefer to watch racing with my eyes rather than through a camcorder. Only reason I got the photos was because I was using my DSLR to view the distant parts of the track.
Rockingham's a pretty crap circuit for spectators IMHO. Nowhere near as good as somewhere like Oulton.

Well what a weekend :119:, first ever race behind me and think I covered every experience in one day (unfortunately):bigcry:
Was all a bit crazy and up against it, we never made qualifying as cars were not ready, so the first time I actually got out in her ever was for 20 mins qualy, on brand new brakes (not bedded in), new suspension (not geo'd) and not set up, so to say qualy was a challenge was an understatement!
Still managed to get in 10 laps but only with a time of 1.42.488, which was 9th out of 12, and 2nd in class (out of 3 in class).
Race 1 sitting on the grid waiting for the lights to go out and the adrenalin was like nothing ive ever had before (left leg twitching)! the guys had geo'd it over night since qualy but still had not been out in it since the settings were changed from qualy so this was back in raw again for the race.
Idea was to use this race as practice and get the settings right for race 2 , but after bringing my lap times down in 3/4 laps to 1.36.358 (still bedding in brakes, and car twitching on set up) on lap 5 as I was exiting the first corner at the end of the start finish straight , the back end snapped away as I put the power down and manged to hold onto it and bring it back into line , then it snapped back the other way onto the grass and slid into the wall snapping a steering arm rod:bigcry::bigcry:
Not sure what else if at all went, so the decision was made not to try and rush to fix and get out for race 2, in case something else had been damaged.
was a pretty hairy experience sliding along the grass at speed watching the wall coming towards you !
Car not to badly damaged, few panels done (all on one side) carbon bumper split front , all repairable.
So first race , first off , so hoping I got my first ever off behind me now! and get on with the season, we are now going to spend the next 5 weeks getting it set up right and I need to get time in the car to get a feel for it properly and looking forward to brands on the 7th June:thumbs:
Good to see curly ( well done mate ) dont do bends out there and a win in class, shimmy ( get out here ) !!! and windy (nice pics buddy) and thedoros who all were there
Put this weekend into the experience bucket and learn from it:whistle:

Well done Daz, that is an experience right enough.
As you said, get some time in the car and I'm sure it will all come together. Must be a surreal feeling driving on Slicks too, that must take a bit of getting used to.
I'm away to look at how long it will take me to drive to Brands Hatch now! I need to get a couple of these races.
Well done mate, I can only imagine the adrenalin at the start, class.

That E30 is one of the quickest cars in the Kumho. And Garrie (I've passengered with him at Oulton) is seriously quick. Quite funny seeing that 20 year old 'little E30' spank E46's.
All I kept thinking as I was watching Daz was just how totally different the experience must be to track days. I doubt very much that I'd have the bottle for it.

Sorry to hear you had an Off Daz but from what I hear really nothing too serious and it's par for the course as you're pushing to your limits in a car that you've had limited time in.
It's an adrenaline rush isn't it  ... once you've done it once you're hooked.
Bummer that you had to go out on untested brakes, geo etc.. from this I am assuming you hadn't really had chance to test in the car prior? Testing is such valuable time in the car before a race weekend and can make all the difference.... only once last season I missed testing and it showed in my qualifying time.

Well I had a great day. From the reaction of other spectators in the stand it was well received. And judging from the gasps, ooo's and arrgghhh's they made with the tussle for the lead and a couple mid field they enjoyed it.
First time I've ever been to Rockingham and came away with mixed views. It's the first time I've seen a track and didn't think I'd like to drive parts or the whole of it! On the plus side from the spectator stand you could see the whole race although can't get close to the track. Must say all the people working there were notably very friendly and helpfull more so than all the other places 'Curly's Crazy's' (the official supporters club, dontdobends) have been.
I think it was a mountain for all participants concerned with everyone having their own set of problems, mostly teething problems in a new series in my opinion. Thorney obvioiusly had the most pressure being the main driver/organiser of CSL Cup. Creating this must have been a huge effort to get to first grid and congratulations. I guess the pressure/politics from others may even increase now it's confounded critics and become a reality.
It was personally a difficult to see dontdobends struggle with several problems. But I think he fired a warning shot in the first half of the first race where although the top three, which were in modified class, slowly pulled away he was holding fourth! Pretty awesome considering.
Anyway Curly's Crazy's have been here before though when his first round of Sportmax at Croft was a tricky affair but like a true sportsman dusted himself down and came back with a pot and podium position the next time at Donny round! :yeah:
A couple of photo's...
I think Speed Religion (Ant Howarth of Ant&Pete Gumball fame) backed the right one and ruffled a few feathers maybe.

First race always feels like you have no time to build speed and learn the car/track. Especially so if you miss practice and setup time. It's over so fast you can't believe it. It'll all slow down a bit and feel more comfortable when the routine becomes more second nature. Get stuck in there fella.:smokin:

yeah nathan thats still a bit heavy, your still on the standard M3 wheels and there pretty heavy. The ones that thorney let me use last week were a good 5 kilos lighter per wheel. that would save you 20 kilos after market back box , saves you 10 kilos passenger seats and belts 12 kilos. that puts it in the more reasonable 1350 kilos range, but saying that, you dont want to go too light because you might end up carrying ballast in brit car.:bigcry:

Looking forward to Brands now when we should be fully ready I hope. Trying to see if we can arrange a big BMW meet there so will put a post up with Marks approval?
My car was pretty much as it drove to the workshop, we left the bolt in cage in it, part stripped it (still had aircon, windows etc) and very soft suspension so all I really did was pootle about until the brakes went off really (still on old AP's). It was hard enough getting other cars ready let alone mine.
We have a car available for drive for Brands, £1k plus entry fees and tyres, standard class if anyone was interested?

Looks like Brands might be a possibility - I passed my ARDS today, and Thorney has confirmed my roll cage is fine. All I need now is a plumbed in fire extinguisher system and an engine cut off switch.
Daz / Curly - what did you guys fit to your cars?
Also, what wheels/tyre sizes are you both using?

good news steve:thumbs:my extinguisher is a lifeline zero 2000 and the cut off is a armtech 70BC06 and i'm using standard 18" bmw wheels tyre sizes are i think 235 front and 250 rear. all my kit was fitted by simpsons so not sure on prices hope this helps

Thanks Thorney, speak to you tomorrow. Just to clarify, are you saying:
1. ALL cars regardless of class must run Dunlop hard compound slicks,
2. ALL cars must run 235 at the front and 250 at the rear,
3. Modified cars can ONLY run either TD Pro Race 1.2 OR Rays RE30?
So modified class are not allowed to use any other type of tyre?
Also, what is the situation with rain tyres?

Steve, modified class can run whatever wheels they want but still must run the control tyres, which you are correct in 235 front and 250 rear.

Looking forward to it. I've aligned the car, however these top mounts from AST mean I'm running a degree less castor than the standard CSL, not great :bigcry: Will try and get that fixed for Donnington. Pleased to say however I've got -4.5 camber on the front and -3.5 on the rear

I however finished last in class :hahaha: Although I finished 5th out of 8, not too bad. The top 4 are seriously fast, and seriously lightweight  I need to find 175kg to lose :banghead:
Curly overtook me off the line, had a great few laps trying to get past him, eventually got past and remained in 6th all the way until the race leader (i think) went too hot into paddock and off the track, safety car came out, we bunched up again but only one lap to go after that.
Good fun racing, but for most of the race I was in clear air which was a bit boring. Looking forward to the race tomorrow

Round 5 & 6 - Donington Park, Derby
July 4th - 5th 2009
Great circuit, great location, right next door to East Midlands airport (although that does mean that jet fuel from the planes can make the track quite slick). Excellent views from loads of places and you need to be there to appreciate the elevation changes on the track (it's certainly not what you'd call 'flat', put it that way). Placed almost certainly on most drivers top 3 circuits in the UK.

John, me being technical and all - is that the same as the thermostat?
I drove the car for 5 minutes today and it was already in the red - something certainly wrong.
The bmw guys reckon its the viscous clutch on the fan - they can stop it with their hand (not literally) when it should be taking their hand off.
We've ordered both, and are fitting them tomorrow morning, then I'm driving down the road. Cutting it fine, but I'll be there!
