View Full Version : Suspension?

Thoughts on upgrading the suspension.
Is it worth the money and suitable for an everyday car?
Is there much less body roll than OEM and would you put before exhaust system and race seats?
Dilemma! :banghead:

If i only used the CSL on road i would probably leave the suspension standard - possibly only swapping OEM shocks for Bilstein PSS10.
Now that my OEM suspension shock bodies are starting to rust a little and due to the fact that i track it reasonably regular, i will most probably upgrade to Intrax 1k2 when the time comes :smt023
Regarding the other stuff, i would have only changed my OEM back box to a SS lightweight one - knowing what i know now!
I find the CSL seats great for my average size/shape so can't justify changing them for minimal benefit. I have spoken to other owners who have changed and speak highly of them. I'm just not that bothered.

Only the back box? Why is that? Because of a lack of power gains? To be honest I know I will be flamed for this but I don't like the CSL rasp and prefer the Milltek full exhaust notes I've heard. Can this note change be achieved just by a Milltek back box?

Whys that? weights/sound?

speak highly of OEM seats or aftermarket? Im only thinking of changing so I can run harnesses operating in the same way using sliding baseframes. over 2k for that solution though, so could go suspension/ exhaust for that. Maybe a decat like s.mac.

It is accepted that simple power gains on a CSL are hardly massive and aren't exactly cheap to obtain either. I went Stage II (+25bhp) at a cost of over 2k. I'm the opposite - love the rasp!
I have a full Miltek at the moment and it almost completely eliminates the rasp which annoys me! My car sounds more like a 911 C2S from behind... :smt012 We all like different things i suppose! Most tend to either go Miltek or Supersprint as the Gruppe M is a little over-the-top, IMHO!
My Miltek will be removed in a few weeks if you fancy it?! It's less than a year old and still in very good nick

Supersprint - for sound primarily but weight-saving secondly (It depends on what centre section you run too)
I have spoken to a few owners who really rate the aftermarket seats. One who has them on here is Shimmy i think - ask him for his views.

BACK TO SUSPENSION!!!
i cant believe i didnt do the intrax two years ago!
it is more compliant on road (better than KWV3) and superb on track, limitin roll and getting grip donw nice and early.
It also saves on tyre wear on track which is a bastard after blowing £000s in the last 2 years/

I changed to KW3s for two reasons - reduce roll/tighten things up, and to make the car sit nicer (dont like arch gap). Initially I loved it, but Id only done a few hundred miles and one track day. Body roll was next to nothing. After doing a few more miles and giving the car more beans (drier roads etc) I found it to be a bit harsh and not very complient. So had a tinker with the settings - ended up softer than standard - which was spot on for cruising, but no use for fun. Iv now found a setting in between and Im back in love. For everyday its probably too rough, but for fun on roads its the bollocks. Looks amazing too. Everyone seems to rate the Intrax so much better (and they bloody should be with a £1k+ premium), but Ive never had a go so cant comment. I'll maybe get a run sometime and consider upgrading. Anyone had V3s and changed to Ik2s?
The exhaust note on the CSL is perfect IMO, so I'll never touch it. Though, I would have liked the exhaust tips to be a bit meetier looking.
Seats are perfect too, and sticking anything like big bucket racing seats in just makes the car look like some tacky boy racers. (unless of course its a stripped out race car).

I am not sure Intrax IK2 are miles better than KWV3 but I think once you add the cost of adjustable camber plates to the KW and the seemingly more expensive fitting be Geo it's not a million miles away. My Intrax was all in £1900 fitted.
The main benefits of the intrax are the ease of adjustment. I can adjust all 4 corners without any need to raise the car.so can be done on the drive or in the garage with no tools except your right hand

Why not just go with KW Clubsport?? A definite step up from the V3 and much better rear design for our car compared to the Intrax in my opinion (especially for a road car) - Anyone wanna do a groupbuy?

Start off a topic in the group buy section and see how you get on. I may be interested if price is good enough. ;)

Anyone wanting V3 or clubsports could do worse than contact backdraft motorsport in mk using: info@backdraftmotorsport.com
As they are running a group buy at the moment. KW prices are going up on May 1st so get in there quick if you want them.

My mate had one of his M3, I liked the noise and the looks of it. Let us know how you're getting on with it? Where did you get it, boy from Glasgow by any chance?

intrax have adjustable plates as part of the kit (unlike KWV3 - so you have to factor that cost in and if you forget youneed to include 2 geos)
i bought the set second hand from Dan with very low mileage at £1500 then £360 to fit at Simpsons:thumbs:
