Not being built for cup, building it for endurance racing. Going take it for some fun for a few months then back again for new fuel tank, dry break refuelling, pit to car radio then doing a few rounds this year before hopefully finding the funds for a full season next year.
Simpsons doing the work.

It hadn't been cleaned for over a year when I took it down there and there were some dandelions in the front from an off track excursion, some grass on the inside from where I span across a freshly cut bit with the window open but no daisys that I knew off!
Since then it has been resprayed on the inside and the even cleaned the outside!

Looking forward to that one next year, both of us have novice crosses still mate so no Spa for us until we've done enough races to get a Nat A.
Aim is 2 races this year then hopefully full season next. Will come and try to find you and say hello in the paddock, if you see a couple of blokes looking lost in a grey and green CSL come and say hello.

Andyk
06-04-2009, 03:57 AM
How do you get on with the 888. I like them but there has been mixed reactions to them and Simpsons told me that they don't last.
_Nathan_
06-04-2009, 08:46 AM
Great on the road utterly shite on track, they go off really quickly as the rears just overheat.
As a road tyre they are great though, better in water than cups and don't require anywhere near as much warming up.

Nah - my car isn't finished yet - was at Silverstone for the race with the BPM Clio guys to see how it was run from the pits.
Might have been Guy Spurr's CSL? Was his blue e46 WTCC car testing at the time?
Do you use a radio? I think it looks really useful but have had other advice saying a pit board is plenty good enough?

Yes i think it was Guy's in that case then!
Ah, BPM Clio boys... i speak to Marcus(?) over on Cliosport.
Yes we have a radio, pit board's can be ok but it's not the same, especially if you are in the heat of battle! Took us a whole season just to get the radio working well though...
If you can afford it i would go for one, the more you can focus just on yourself, the more relaxed you'll be and the better you'll drive.

Few changes, still need to cut out the battery box to make room for the full width diffuser, new wing ready to go on, splitter missing in pics too, and maybe a full flat floor too. Now have gearbox & PAS coolers as well as diff and massive engine oil cooler, few other bits done to make it better for endurance stuff, reducing drive shaft failures etc.
Now down to 1250-1255kg allowing for the extra bits that need to be added back on and still have the heater matrix in for demisting on rainy days :gayfight:
Will have lots more stickers too soon, will post up again when it is finished...

They look very nice in white (because with black wheels, you can't really see the wheel, unless you are half a meter away).
Do you have any closer pics ?
So I guess you put 265/35/18 all around ?

Did think about painting the bonnet and boot when the reat of the car was sprayed but decided not to as can always do it in the future, quite like the black now the stickers are on, and the diffuser should tie in nicely too.
G50s are mega competitive, Carl Breeze is quick, quick, quick! What are the costs? Unless you are talking about running a G50 in something else? Lovely cars, agreed.

julian says it was £25k second hand, and id probably share it and run endurance and some double headers to keep costs down
G50 ran 1m 12s in 2009 at Snetterton, thats faster than CSL Cup and up there in GT Cup

Blimey, long time since this was updated.
Now a bare shell again :bigcry:
Simpsons have just spent a couple of weeks on the chassis, adding extra bars to the cage and making it left hand drive with new floor area and pedal box mounting, seat a bit more central with transmission tunnel mods as well as cutting out unneeded weight and adding some extra strength in a few places. It also has air jack tubes in now too.
Need to paint interior and start putting it back together, got some nice stuff lined up to go in.
AP Racing now do pedal boxes for drive by wire applications, the tilton one I bought wasn't great for leg room so AP one incoming, heated screen going in too.
Dash, Drenth DG400 Sequential box (no gear lever, just paddles), membrane control panel, power distribution for rear of car

Oooooo oooooo ooooooo (monkey noises)! Did you go for the AP drive by wire set up in the end? We're just about to start the build of our e46 M3 for the Kumho Championship and need a drive by wire solution as we're retaining the std ecu (mainly cos I've just sold my Motec M84). AP looks favourite as only other solution we've been able to source is OBP and the least said about that the better!

Yes but don't think sensor output range is the same as OEM.
M84 doesn't support drive by wire anyway, or Vanos so not the best choice for an S54 regardless.
Have seen implementations with the OEM pedal linked to the AP pedal and they work well if you are keeping the OEM ECU, difficulty is making sure you get full travel.
OEM ECU in a race car is a big compromise though IMO.

Thanks for the super speedy response :-)
We're trying to keep things simple with std motor and ecu to get the car out for the last race of the season. depending on how we get on we'll consider management and engine options over the winter.
Given we're racing in the Kumho there doesn't appear to be much point chasing power, just need to map for torque and get the weight of the car right. Out of interest, is there anything specific that the std ecu doesn't like about racing? Heat related retardation, weird mapping issues etc?

Just a pain in the arse to get working once you start removing bits of loom / sensors and will go to limp mode if everything not perfect or mapped out. Are you keeping ABS?
Few people have moved to throttle cable to bypass the limp by forcing the throttle open , just have to leave the DBW motor in place as without the sensors it goes mental.
Avoid a well known BMW tuning outfit who claim they can make it work standalone but clearly don't have a clue based on the experience of a customer. Promised the world and after many delays delivered a car that wasn't usable.

Hmmmmm looks like we may be in the market for an M800... Will drop you a PM tomorrow :-)
Definitely not going to keep the ABS.

I'm keeping ABS in mine with an M190, if you have a CSL/CS unit (or a unit with the CSL/CS software) I think it is worth keeping, you just need to run 2 brake pressures + yaw sensor and the 4 wheel speeds.
CSL register discount applies but no pressure, there is a guy in ireland who can get it working ok but it is still harder to use on a race weekend in terms of seeing what is going on / logging etc.
