So, what causes it? Is it one specific thing, or the result of a few things?

Oh, and I know it's induction-noise, but I wondered what specifically.

Its the airbox and the airbox only mate!

The airbox lets the noise of the valves and the air being sucked in that big flap :hahaha: big flap that always makes me smile :hahaha:

Its such a spine tingling sound. I cant get enough of it. I think it sounds really deep and snarly at about 3,500rpm in third gear and accelerating hard...:drool:

I will most likely be proven wrong, but it was my understanding that the 'flap' was there to regulate and indeed reduce the noise and does not add or create the noise.
As far as I am aware you can actually remove the flap if so desired, then again maybe I'm talkin sh1tee :whistle:
The sound is created simply by air induction resonating through the carbon airbox

Yeah, just take it off, haven't noticed any problems with it since I did just that.

Think I'll need to try this 'flapless' thing. Though Im always in Sport so would I even notice a difference?

Does it change the sound between idle to 3k rpm?

Yep noise all the time!:beer::smokin:

If you've got a flap keep it if you want.. if it's stopped working remove it. It makes no difference to performance and is only really there for noise supression at lower rpm.

Fwiw...only person who seems to disagree on this is Thorney - but I think if you do a search here you'll find this has been discussed before.

That was what i thought about mine, but in hind sight i think it was my imagination and it was actually fine all along! Anyway, its removed now so thats that :hahaha:

Its very easy to remove, just make sure you have the ignition off, undo the three allen screws holding the solenoid on to the side of the airbox, which will allow you to pull it free. This then allows you to revolve the flap by hand, giving you access to the screws that hold the valve onto the valves shaft. Remove said screws, flap comes free of shaft, revolve shaft back to original position, replace solenoid! Thats it :)
