Anyone drove the new V8 M3? How do they compare to the CSL?
I have! Very nice car. Will be next after the CSL i think.
I will go for the DCT in white or grey!

I drove one before a CSL - had one on order from main dealer and withdrew the order after driving it. If you like the hardcore and raucous nature of the CSL then I don't think the new M3 will be as enjoyable.
However for an everyday proposition it is probably better than the CSL.
But I doubt it would be anywhere near as fun on the track...

As above really...very fast car and a great everyday drive...but not as involving as a CSL...didn't give a big smile like the CSL either......such a shame there will be no CSL version.

Driven one. Build quality is far better, V8 pulls awesome, noise is OK.
Not a patch on a CSL though. It has no character. Its just a 3door E60M5 IMO.
I looked before getting the CSL and drove one back to back with an E46 M3 and they are like night and day. The E9x is undoubtedly a great car with a phenomenal engine.
Totally different proposition to the CSL though.
IMO the saloon is the perfect compromise if you need 4 doors.

Like Terry, I had one on order as well but cancelled it and stuck with the CSL. It would have replaced the CSL but it wouldn't have been the same thrill. Great car and I would have one for every day driving.
Might get a 4 door M3 when the time comes to change my 335i Touring.

Cheers guys, have seen a few lately and was thinking about swapping the CSL for one. When my car goes in for service I might see if they will lend me one to try:thumbs:

Its a lovely car, but would not have one over a CSL , it needs to be as well as , if like me you cant afford both , do like me , and keep the CSL till its paid off , then its yours to keep and buy an M3 as a day to day car...
It wasnt that good on track (compared to the CSL):whistle:

LOL ( don't buy that black one then:hahaha:)
Well I bought the CSL to be my sensible car:hahaha:. I wanted a car that was quick without modding it as I kept my Bmw Mini Cooper S (which is fairly modded) when I bought the CSL:thumbs:I will be fitting the next stage of mods soon on the mini which will make it silly fast (removing the supercharger and fitting a turbo amongst other things, should take it from the the current 270+bhp upto 350-400bhp:drool:)

I drove a mates White convertible E92 before testing the CSL. The E92 is a stunning but practical car. Too practical infact! a lot quieter than the CSL too. Good for posing around town. Rather have the CSL, a born thoughorbred indeed made for the job. does exactly what it says on the tin!

My best mate / co-director has one - great, fantastic car but lacks the raw character of the CSL. Depends what you want though doesn't it? DCT box is very impressive though... at least on the upshifts.
Keep meaning to take it out for a proper blast in the rain, just to see how well it skids.

I've driven both the 6 speed and the 7 speed DCT ... Personally I do think the DCT is a step up from the SMG in the CSL. It is phenomenally smooth and really fast (almost automatic like .. .actually, very automatic about the whole experience)
As a chassis (I've had a pleasure of going to a workshop tech seminar on it explaning the dynamics) it is a vast improvement over the E46 and there's a lot of hidden underbody aerodynamics on the car that you wouldn't notice unless you were told about it.
When it first came out I must admit I absolutely HATED it ... I thought BMW had gone barking mad with the design and the V8 engine. I've actually now grown to really like the car after seeing at least 10 in Melbourne Australia driving around.
The coupe is my favourite and either in white or black - it looks stunning with a bit of suspension lowering and no tacky spoilers and kits.
As far as the drive goes it is very softly sprung even with the EDC (compared to the CSL). The noise isn't there compared to the CSL, but it is a lot better day to day proposition compared to the CSL in my opinion.
I would happily use one as a daily driver and occassional track day warrior - but as far as a the biggest grin on the face from driving a car, the CSL wins hands down - there's just no replacement for it!!
ps. One thing I really didn't like about the E92 M3 was the steering .... it sucks period.
pps. I actually didn't think the E92 M3 was that much faster than the CSL to be honest - If it was, it certainly wasn't noticeable.

I have had a bit of a battle with one on track at Snetterton a few times and it had the legs on me on the straights but i was all over him on the brakes and in the corners.
I'm not sure if it was standard or not though...

My own view is slightly different. I prefer the upshifts with the MDCT, but I prefer the downshifts of the CSL's SMGII. The reason I prefer the downshifts is you have that split second to play with the revs while the clutch is disengaged - meaning you can add your own blips (above and beyond what it may do automatically). You can't do that with the MDCT because it has the new gear engaged so quickly that there's no time.

Thats exactly what I wouldnt want. I like the rawness, and un-refined-ness of the SMG. If the DCT is as smooth as some say, it'll be dull IMO.
When my car needs a serice will try and get one for the day, i did have a New White Manual on Order but went for the CSL! Would like a drive of a DCT tho!;)

Seems a few had one on order, then went the CSL route instead.
I hadnt ordered one (cos the waiting list was/is BS) but was set to buy one, til I seen it in the flesh.
Saved myself £20k+ and bought the CSL instead. Much happier :smt055

The way to go IMO if you want a new shape M3 is to wait a year or so until the price fall through the floor and the CSL prices are still quite steady then trade in you'll save loads more money...

You keeping it now? :hahaha:
the sales of E9+ M3 have been very poor when compaired to the E46 - it will be very interesting to see what happens in 18 months time the price may start to firm up when ppl start to like the shape, realise its a really good car and there's not that many on the road.
