So I decided last summer to take the ap brakes off the car and return it to standard. God was I in for a surprise(and a long summer of late nights and early mornings)I'm handy with the spanners so decided I'd take on with the work myself. What I thought would be straight forward enough brakes swap ended up being a full front end refurb which by the end was massively rewarding and believe it or not very straightforward. So to begin with got the car up on to the axle stands and began inspecting everything and to my horror this wasn't just going to be a swap of the brakes. Everything was going to need replacing or refurbished and the surface rust in the inner arches taken care of as well so I got to work(sorry I didn't take pics ). Il list what was done.
Stripped the full front suspension and steering rack including subframe.
Braced the engine to remove subframe
Asked my local specialist to change rod bearings as we had the subframe off.
New shocks fitted, new power steering hose, wheel bearings, brake guards
New wish bones, drop links, steering arms, roll bar bushes, engine mounts,
New steering coupler, new brake calipers discs pads and hoses , cpv changed,
Refurbished the king pins roll bar and subframe, and replaced all nuts and bolts in the process .
Cleaned up and painted inner arches, changed gearbox oil and steering fluid reservoir .
I'm sure there was much more done and the results were worth every hour spent doing it also the amount you learn about the car from working on it yourself and the money you save on labour :hahaha:great peace of mind now knowing most of the age related mechanical jobs are now done.Il post some pics of the finished work when I get the car jacked up again.

Its getting there but believe it or not it isn't my goal I just like knowing the car is as well looked after underneath as it is on top. Funny done the back end 3 years ago when I fitted the reddish strengthening plates.
I went back to oem brakes because I don't track the car and I really prefer the look of the oem discs on the car rather than the ap ones another reason maybe the biggest reason I could never quite get rid of brake judder and squealing pads oh and lots of brake dust a real pain when you get back from a long spin and your wheels are filthy.
