Hmmmm, DSC, my driving, is all ok?

So, decided to go for a blat last night to a really nice stretch of road close to where I live, very quiet, super smooth tarmac and 3 roundabouts with 3 nice twisties in between. The car is on Conti Sports which I know is not ideal but when the tyres still have 5mm tread left it seems silly to change them.

Flat in 1st DSC light going nuts. So I'm thinking that is probably acceptable due to being a little cold and never easy to get all the power down in the CSL in 1st. Also noticed that now and again doing it in 2nd. Anyway on favourite stretch, stuck M track mode on and went for a few runs. Quite a lot of wiggles and I'm thinking the car is maybe not gripping as well as my previous 2 CSLs. Then parked up next to 4-5 bikes who were doing the same as me, had a chat with them etc. then decided to do a couple more runs and then home. Forgot to stick M Track mode on and again, DSC going a bit nuts. I'm wondering whether it might just be the Contis or could it be something else. Diff was replaced less than a year ago. Could potentially be RTABS but not sure I can find out without sending it in under warranty and can't be arsed with all of that.

Any thoughts chaps? I hope it really is as simple as crap tyres.

Contis aren't good on the track but they are still a premium brand and 'okay' on most cars, the CSL is a bit different though.

I have just put Goodyear F1 Assymetrics and felt they understeered badly on the road (34 psi). The roads were cold and slightly damp so I'm waiting to if they get better on 'better' days. Assuming you have checked the pressures?

If so, perhaps get Simpsons or Thorney to fit a RTAB limiter kit?

When I first got mine it was on PS1's. Looking back they were appalling and felt like as much grip as wood! So could be tyres. After tyre pressures easiest would be Thorney/Simpsons if it's real reason for concern. You don't have to be a top racing driver for wrong tyre pressure to effect you.

Something sounds wrong mate, you shouldn't be getting these sort of issues on a dry road once you have some temp in the tyres. I've not had a CSL yet but the M3's is not that far off really and I would not expect DSC lights to show on a dry road in anything more than first really. Could you have picked up some diesel do you think?

Sounds normal to me, its easy to light up the rears in 2nd - Im on ps2s.

Agreed - my car can feel squirmy occasionally for the 'usual' reasons, normally a few combined: damp patches, cold temps, oil/mud on road, heavy right foot!

I wouldn't worry too much. Fitting a RTAB limiter kit is a worthwhile mod to consider - especially if going on track :thumbs:

BTW - i'm running PS2s on road also.

I get the same , the PS2's are hopeless on cold tarmac, mine just bogs down with the lights flashing in 1st and 2nd, sometimes 3rd if its a poor surface, set off toady from a junction, DSC turned off, dry tarmac, 12deg outside and it stepped out nicely as i was straightening up , limiter in 1st into 2nd, still wiggling its hips.
Went back a bit later past the same junction, not a mark, never mind fat number 11's :hahaha: , basically i think they need a fair bit of heat in them,would expect super hard Nankang ditch finders to perform the same , not £1200 of Michelin, (but they are summer tyres really i reckon) and some pretty warm tarmac to put power down :banghead:
Doesnt help just having a plastic bootlid over the rear tyres as ballast.:whistle:

Ah, sorry, difficult to be funny when you haven't got a clue what I'm on about. Housey's RS4 was dynoed at Thorney's against a mate's e92 M3 and 996GT3RS and was found 'wanting'. Audi have fixed it since, but a grudge match in on the cards at the next Thorney pie eating open day.... errrrr dyno day.

Most RS4's don't get near the numbers based on my research but it does seem that chippers can get them around 425bhp quite easily. This indicates to me that Audi is de-tuning them for some reason and I'd love to get to the bottom of it to see what the story is as it will also impact on the R8. Mine is better now but I still don't think it's 414bhp and I am not aware of any standard RS4 that has ever got close to that number on a reputable rolling road. Audi's view when I disucssed it was "oh."

At the end of the day there is only 1 emerging messure which is Cattle Grid to Cattle Grid!

PS Housey's road to his house (and a couple of others) goes up a small windy country lane which doesn't have hedges allowing you to see what is coming the other way. Ohh it also allows you to easily take to the grass if you don't bother to look at what is coming the other way!!! It has a cattle grid and both ends and CGTCG is looked upon in the same light as BTG:thumbs:

Not good in the summer mind when the local farmer decides to plant corn on the cob in the right hand field. Last year this lack of vision meant a trip across the field on the left to avoid a neighbours friend who was coming the other way in his mini! I was up around 3 figure leptons at the time and it did mean I got some pain from the locals for a few weeks. :hahaha:

Don't worry about the lack of horse's Housey. I have just found out mine is not a real CSL after all this time. When it was in dealers for some tlc last week they filled up the 4.5 litre screen wash up AND it didn't vommit it back up at them! Well, I mean that close to 5kg weight so had to give her a spanking on way home :clown:
