On my e46 compact and coupe when I press bc and set my trip computer to show range,I switch off the car.the following morning or day night I start up and it shows range as I previously set it
On my Csl I start up and get clock time.i scroll through to range which is what I like to observe.i switch off then go to start and it reverts back to clock time.
It doesn't reset the clock to--:-- it shows what ever time it is
My question is does anyone know how to set it to memories the range setting I want to observe?both other e46's keep range if I turn off at range,if I set it to mpg when I turn off when I start up its n mpg.and so on so forth but Csl will revert back to clock

Interesting, i think mine does this too. But since i don't own any other E46 i thought its normal behaviour. I will try to keep an eye on it the next time i take it out for a drive.

Found out the battery of my csl is flat :bigcry:.. so have to postpone the investigation :hahaha:
Im thinking perhaps BMW engineers forgot about the memory function when they pogrammed the CSL oil dipstick feature? Or perhaps it has a technical reason. Im thinking this is a perfect case for tom to investigate on. :smokin:

Unless there's a small battery in the cluster like the old e36 e30 had
I've got an old cluster I'll look at at work tomorrow

So do any of the M specialists not know why this is so?

it's because time flies when you drive a CSL and BMW did not want us to be late in our appointments.
I think mine has the memory. I will check

Hahahaha
Very funny
Well if you live in south east London with these atrocious drivers who can't get down the straight road with out incident you will be spending a long time in Csl so I like to use the bc as a game cos I spend so much time sitting in traffic lol
Thanks mate

So I looked into this on two separate clusters. One off my CSL and other off my cloned CSL M3. The latter holds the OBD functions as stated by adem.csl whilst the CSL always reverted back to the Clock.
It seems to me the only thing different that maybe relevant in terms of settings is this one highlighted below. I will flash my cluster and report back, but I am reasonably confident that this will give the desired result you guys are after where it will always hold its memory.

Ok I just tested this out on my CSL
And it works. Changing that line above to "enabled" allows the cluster to keep its memory like the stock E46s.

I have seen the function on ncs expert but the name didnt suggest it had anything todo with the behaviour. So thanks for investigating
