I went today to buy 2 rear cups to be told they’re discontinued.

So now that the original cups are not available what should I replace them with? Cup 2’s?

I’m in need of 2 rears for up coming MOT, fronts are ok. If I go Cup 2 or something else I’d need a set even just for aesthesis.

Last track day was the Nurburgring 4 years ago and have no plans to do any in the near future, not in the CSL anyhow. I just like the idea of the original cups to keep the car original.

I know there’s a technical thread just below this about cups, if I was to do more TD’s in the CSL I’d fit whatever the best performing tyre is, to another set of wheels, maybe 18’s.

I presume nobody knows where I'd get a set of original cup's?

If you're not running the car on track, then the Cups are really wasted on the road, as you need to be driving like a loon to get the benefit. However, Pirelli make a Cup equivalent that works at the same level as the original Michelins in the form of the Trofeo R, but again it will be wasted on the road.

For road use I would recommend the replacement for the MPSS, which is the Pilot Sport 4S (must be the S version), unless you can somehow track down some new old stock of the Cup 1s, but good luck with that.....

Would be okay if the Cups were still available for £800, but sadly they're not available at all, let alone for the knock down price while they shifted all the old stock to make way for the shitty Cup 2s :(.

Pics of Yantos Mrs in skimpy underwear or STFU ;).

:hahaha: Shimmy you always sum things up perfectly!

Shimmy understands were I’m coming from, knows what I’m thinking... in relation to tyres, not his Mrs in saucy underwear... honestly...

I’ve never had an issue with driving day to day on Cups, but then I’ve never driven the CSL as a day to day car, I bought mine in 2006 to do TD’s, mainly the Nurburgring and had only planned keeping it a couple of years, but 11 years later I still enjoy going for a blast in it, and really that is all it is now.

If I was to do another TD in it, which I might, I’d get fresh rubber regardless but and the moment I like the idea of having the car on its original tyre, plus when slicked Cups look so much better than Pilots! I once said too, if you put Pilots on a CSL you might as well have just bought a normal M3, so I can’t go back on my word now.

Fancy underwear is all good and well but I'd be looking for something a little more industrial if I were running cups and got caught in the rain.

I have two sets of genuine CSL wheels to save the wear on the track tyres ;).

Black ones for track, Silver for road (with MPSS) :gayfight:

I have only ever worn Cups to trackdays, and thats now about 100. Rain or shine and there and back. They work and are fine, your just need to have some respect for the white lines

However i once was a passenger with Duncan on Cups in heavy rain on way back from Spa and think he should NEVER use Cups on the road :supz: EVER AGAin

Anybody wants pics of Yantos Mrs in saucy gear, PM me
