So I'm needing a tap for the diff housing. Now the spec is a weird one. M14x1,5x65-10.9

So I managed to source a M14x1 tap but it's wrong.

Anyone able to tell me the size I actually need?

Urgent as required to catch a boat for Ring trip in a couple of days.

Cheers

Hi Paul, looks like you have got the correct bolt size, but the incorrect pitch, you will need a M14x1.5 according to the bolt size.

Sourcing that at short notice may be difficult, good luck!

Sounds like we had the same issue!! When putting my rear subframe back together there must have been some crap on the bolt and it dragged it all the way through and ruined 2/3 of the thread, couldn't figure out why it was clonking when pulling away. Turned out the bolt wasn't actually doing anything. Got a longer bolt and no longer an issue, but next time it is removed I will be getting an insert put in

So diff is now all tight but the clunk is still there
You can hear it in the vid in most corners.

I would check with a pry bar, to see if there is still movement, pry between subframe and front diff mount,I could lift front of diff, fair old clunking until got it real tight

Does it clunk if you put the car in gear, and pull the clutch up and down quickly? Almost like you are slamming it into gear. When I did that we knew there was an issue and it's because the bolt wasn't tight on the threads. Once a longer bolt was inserted with good grip on the threads that hadn't been ruined, it stopped doing it.

No it doesn't Graham. It's SMG but have tried the same sort of thing. Going to swap out the solid subframe mounts for PF Black's next year and see if that helps. The diff is solid now with no movement.

Have you thought about engine mounts being torn, chad

Yes Chad.
I had brake failure at an earlier round this year and hit the tyres at a recorded 58mph on Vbox. It sheared all the mounts so all were replaced engine and box and it's still bloody there!!!! Lol

Only found problem, diffbolt problem, by getting car over solid brick built pit,and really makeing things move around with motor running, just couldn't do that on BMW workshop lifts, as they moved around to much, then found problem clunking straight away, chad

Not sure TBH Chad. It was still present at the end of the season and at the ring I snapped a front disc so car has been laid up since. Just finished rebuilding bottom end so hopefully get it out for some testing soon and see whats what.

Just one of these things Shim. Pushing braking later and later every lap and the ABS kicked in on a "lump" in the track. No brakes just when I needed them most and by the time id lifted off and re applied I was on dirty tarmac way past turn in point.

Luckily it was a double header so a run round Edinburgh to pick up parts and a very late night at the circuit got me back out on the Sunday for the next round. Car didn't look pretty but grabbed a 2nd place out of it.

Auch these things happen Graham.
This picture was 2 weeks later at a Hill Climb so some late nights and yet more hair loss and we were ready again.

Diff wise Martin sorted me some other bushes so that combined with the repair of the bolt seemed to have done the trick.

Just to add Chad I actually removed the mounts and although ok they were cracked and leaking so these have also been replaced.

They do indeed mate, got to expect it once in a while

Looks great, god knows how you've kept yours so clean whilst racing it, suppose door to door racing causes a few more dents than just racing the clock
