I am not very good at monogomy when it comes to cars. The last car I bought before my CSL was a 1989 Mercedes 300SL, the car I bought after it was an E36 M3. Next purchase will probably be a DB9 for a bit of a change, really fancy a V12.

How was the 1M in comparison to the CSL?

The CSL Handles like its on rails that’s what makes the car what it is the 1M is more of a road car you could use every day.

Don’t get me wrong the 1M is like a go cart but it is not as planted as a CSL.

I would say the 1M is faster but moves around a lot with the short wheelbase.

And with all the torque at 1500rpm it likes to spin wheels
Its also very easy to get going faster Intercooler upgrade / Cobb Acessport / mid pipe exhaust and it will be up at 430ish BHP.

The Noise the CSL makes is fantastic :smt055
The 1M sounds ok for a turbo car.

The Brakes are good standard as it has the brakes off the V8 M3

I would recommend one or go and have a drive in one its a blast
With prices heading north i would hurry up if you want one
cars with 30,000 miles are the best buy just now as the lower mileage cars are up for strong money.

Also the Black cars don’t sell as fast as the Alpine white or Valencia Orange

I would agree/add:

1. Damping on the CSL is better.
2. The lighter weight of the CSL is apparent on twisty sections of road.
3. Seats are better in the CSL - can obviously be addressed.

Hello,

Here is my list:

• Talbot Samba Cabrio (first car)
• E30 BMW 325i (2-door version)
• E30 BMW 325i Cabrio
• E36 BMW M3 Cabrio
• BMW Z3 M Roadster
• BMW 850CSi Individual
• BMW M3 CSL

Since I had the 850CSi, I also started having 2 cars at the same time (garage queen + daily):

• Classic Mini Cooper
• Classic Mini Cooper "Sport"
• E46 BMW 316Ti Compact
• Fiat 500 Abarth EsseEsse
• E46 BMW Alpina B3 3.3 Allrad Limousine
• E90 BMW M3 Limousine, manual, no iDrive

I sometimes fancy a change for a 997 GTS or a V8 Vantage, but I might regret the CSL.

If you have the opportunity, keep the CSL and go for a GTS or Vantage.

Thank you for your advice Roland.

I confess I would prefer a manual on the open roads, even though I quite like the SMG.

My dream would be to have my CSL converted to a manual gearbox at BMW Classic.

I wrote them once, but got no answer.

I have just put a deposit down on a manual DB9 with sports pack. It is different enough to the CSL to be interesting, it is pretty quick, and it doesn't look or sound too bad either.

No problem. The Speed 25 is a Cross and Ellis 4 door Sports Tourer and in a long restoration at the moment. Two Speed 20's are Vanden Plas Sports Tourers, one four seater and one two seater. 4.3 Litre racer is the Goodwin Special built 1948. Much fun and should be back historic racing next year after 25+ years laid up in a private collection. TD's and TE's are in the depths of the barn, all in rough state. No pics of those to hand.

Not too much of an issue. My business provides restoration and rally prep services for Alvis's. Had many on the Flying Scotsman and it's a great event. Just had one customer come back from Peking to Paris Rally this weekend in an Alvis. Finished 9th out of 115 starters and 1st in class so dead chuffed.
