Now I know the sump holds 7 litres

but if the dash says +1.1L does this mean the capacity is 8.1L??

You could overfil with as much as you like and it will never read more than +1.1

Yea

Top it up the the recommended level and drive it for a bit to let the oil level sensor sort it's life out then add a little at a time until your at the 1.0 / 1.1 mark
Once you go over that it will only ever read 1.1 and you might be over filling it.

Chad

I wasn't aware it was 5.5 as I've always had it done by BM's finest

Knowledge is power they say!!

Decided on a DIY oil service to save some pennies.

Hi Ben. On oil change if I put in about 5.5 lts. Readout on dash would show about +.2 Lts. By adding another .5Lts dash says about. +.8Lts So dash read out is very accurate, other than that I would check on dip stick. So in my book 5.5Lts is bang on chad

The +1.1L means that the current level is 1.1L above the minimum (minimum is 5.5L).

Also worth noting that even though the capacity is 6.5L, the system will hold onto about 1L when you drain the oil. So you should only fill 5.5L.

If you completely empty the system (oil radiator etc), you need approximately 7.5 to 8.0 lt.

Mine took 6.5 L when I did rod bearings (completely empty oil pan, and I also emptied the oil cooler since I did the oil cooler lines at the same time). Not a CSL, but those parts are the same.

Is the general preference to keep it near to +1.0 (in particular to help with cooling)?

Since the S54 doesn't have a crank scraper, it's probably better to keep it slightly below the maximum. 0.7ish is what I go for (about 3/4ths the way up the dipstick if you can check that). 1.0 is fine too, but I'd be careful of going above that.

Keep it to the top level for Track Day happiness!!
