What to watch out for buying a 1 series 118?

My daughter wants me to go along with her when she looks at a second hand 1 series. She has seen one in Essex which looks to be an ex hairdressers car ie cabriolet with white seats !!!??? Anyway what are the weak spots and things likely to have failed that I should look out for or ask about?

I think the one she has seen is a 2010 and if not that particular car then that is the sort of age of vehicle that she is looking at.

I have posted up on PH but drive chain has been the only thing mentioned. Is that it - bullet proof? Apparently from 2009 onwards this issue has been sorted.

I think the cabriolet is a bit of a dream/nightmare as not really practical for where she parks it.

Any pointers most appreciated.

Have you got the reg or chassis number Pip? I can see if theres any history in the network for you.

Timing chain is the big one, other than that pretty reliable. Park distance control units get a bit soggy with the slightest damage to the O/S/R bumper, cause electrical issues.

Having had a couple of 1 series in my time both had squealing from the air con blower fan .had it fixed under warranty but seriously annoying when happening radio just about drowned it out or in the case of my 130i high revs always worked.

That is quite annoying, agreed. My E91 does it too on low speed - I whipped it out and lubed the central spindle, job done:smokin:

Thank you again Monkey. She has gone all quiet again on what she wants but as she is a girl she has probably changed make, model, year and mind ;). I will be in touch if there is any progress on a 1 series and of course my CSL head gasket checks.

Ps all my warning lights had disappeared the next time I took her out.
