Hey Everyone!

I'm hearing a lot of chatter in the CSL world about part availability. I'm hearing people say the front seats are no longer produced and finding a set is nearly impossible. Is that true? If so, is that the same for ALL CSL parts like the decklid, bumpers, diffuser, all interior components etc.? I just want to know the truth about the status of these special parts and where people are getting their information. Can anybody provide some insight?

Much appreciated!

If you ring Bmw parts up with your VIN the system will say how many items in stock.
Your probably want some camshafts as well.

It depends on the part itself. Some are in Stock and some are not. Ask your local dealer.

Out of stock is one thing NLA is another. Though I had gave up waiting for front struts so they may as well be NLA. I believe the roof is still listed as 'in stock' but if you order one you will unwrap it to find a steel panel. I guess the biggest issue is the front bumper but last time I checked with the dealer they were still available.

it gets to the point with all 'classics' where the original parts dry up

on the back of this usually some talented blokes in sheds start making reproductions parts that can be better than stock .... this will happen eventually with CSL parts as otherwise these cars will be kept off the road

the cams for example ... there is nothing fundamentally special about them .. its just our reliance on the warranty

I think Kent Cams now have the measurements at least... they could proabably make some fairly quickly

When my lad was waiting for his new motor, info we had was BMW was having trouble getting the correct material to produce the cam shaft to the there standards, they must have solved that problem , as he got the new engine 2015

I've been waiting for my cams since July 2015, after (BMW GmbH) rejecting several sets, they finally landed last month.

I waited best part of 6 months for a front strut - apparently it had to come from the US!!! finally arrived a couple of weeks ago - you may want to check if you still need it.

Thanks, but i gave up waiting and went for a Bilstein B16 PSS10 kit. No regrets.

Thanks everyone. So when I hear people say "I'm selling the last set of NEW OEM seats produced" there could still be a set sitting at a dealer somewhere? So just because it's NLA doesn't mean it's sitting at a dealer somewhere is what it sounds like.

Depends whether the item is orderable through the BMW system, and thus available.
NLA means no longer available through that system.

If a dealer has some sitting around that are off the system but are willing to sell, that's different, but essentially means it is the same as a private sale of something pre-owned.

My take anyway.

I know that the last two seats were long gone for a new M4 Demo Car for an American Tuner who is mainly involved with BMWs.

It is such a waste for these parts and not 'fair' for us to go for wrong cars...

I struggled to get a back box last year through synter. Don't know what availability is like now. Took around 6 weeks in the end.

Don't believe everything you read on US forums. The seats are still available just very low stock. The reason "complete" seats might be NLA is because the rails were NLA a couple of years back so BMW can no longer provide complete seats all made up ready to bolt in.

You also sort of can't expect a manufacturer to continue to produce special parts for something more than a decade old, plus a lot of the parts were made under licence by third party suppliers and they probably no longer hold the relevant contract to produce it. So short of BMW placing a large order it'll probably not happen.

All the seats were made in 2003, and as far as I am aware Die Wethje aka Recaro never made another batch for BMW since then. Unless there's a huge demand for the seats I doubt they'd ever be put back into production.

I might start an NLA parts thread if there's demand for it? But it is concerning that many key components of this car is going into NLA or reaching that stage. It is almost to a point where it's as if BMW want to make sure these cars will no longer be able to be repaired with replacement parts. Very sad indeed!!
