Chaps,

Noticed a few members here know their CSL's unique build number; any ideas how I go about finding mine?

Before buying my csl i played around with the various VIN Decoders alot and found out that the last 3 digits of your VIN is a serial number

the last 3 digits appear to be a serial number.
Important to notice that the first couple of cars in the series are mostly prototype/press cars.

Perhaps somebody with more knowledge will chime in.

Perhaps there should be a registry of the build numbers, that way when we pick one we can make sure that no two are the same.

I thought that user MBITR (something like that) had compiled a list of all the serial numbers. With that in mind there must be some sort of alpha numeric sequence to serial numbers that concur with which one was built 1st, 2nd, 3rd et cetera.

Ps can I be #423

I thought we didn't post VINs in the public forums? Stops people ringing up BMW to buy parts...

I wonder how many CSL boot lids have been sold for standard M3's?

I ordered some minor CSL specific parts and had to produce my log book and ID

This is the same up here.
I went in to get some parts a couple of years back and when I gave my registration the guy paused and looked at me. Turns out that somebody had been in that day to collect bits and had used my number to order them.
To say I was pissed off is an understatement.

Worst bit is I know who it was.

Wow.. that sucks. I hate to read that a CSL specific part has become extinct, knowing that its mostly due to people slapping them onto their regular e46.
Really wish BMW would be as strict with ordering parts like they are with GTS parts.
