Yep 2 years, it is "held" against my classic line policy so need to check if this means it won't expire. Who is everyone else using?

It's because classic line policy is a classic car insurance policy so they don't give you no claims. As no claims are valid for 2 years if I reinsure with them I run the risk of losing the no claims I've built up. I did ask for it to be held against the policy so need to check how long I can do this.

They told me they held it as long as you are with them, you just don't get anymore years added on, ie it's held at what it is when you start with them.

Right I have some clarity now, basically Classicline will hold your no claims at the amount they were when you joined them, in my case 6 years. As and when I need them they will issue a letter for proof. I've just agreed £666 31 yr old, 56k mile CSL with supersprint and full AP's. Guaranteed value at £55k.

Still trying to get my head round this. Let's say you stay with Classic Line for 4 years and don't have a claim then if they issue a letter of proof are they going to to state you have not had an accident for 6 or 10 years? If I was obtaining quotes I would tell the insurance company I have 10 years no claims. This would not look good if I changed insurer & Classic Line then issued a letter stating 6.

The no claims is not used against the classicline policy just held with classicline so as not to expire seperately. At any point they will issue proof of your no claims if you need to take another policy out elsewhere but it will be for the amount of years that you had when you first contacted them to hold for you.

Tried classic line today. Good quote, but there was another interesting perspective.
I asked about the protected no claims (mine is full) and they had quoted me without taking this into account. I.e no no claims.
I asked they run it again, and the quote was no different, telling me for these types of policies, no claims didn't really matter.
Then I said, what if I decide to move my insurance on from them to another provider at a future point, there was a convuleted explanation around other classic car insurance would prob honour it, but the mainstream firms might not because they have an expectation that a punters no claims bonus is used against their daily, not the car they're insuring with classic line. Now, even though I rarely drive CSL, it's my main insured car. The daily GTi is in wife's name.
So another consideration...depending on your usage and insurance set up with other cars

That's to say, do not insure CSL through these guys if it's your main insured car.
Now I'm gonna have to buy an M2 to transfer my main insurance NCB to ;)
(what I told the missus)...
And run CSL through classic without NCB.

Stuck with cci as no time to faff flipping stuff around.
Raised insured value from £35k to £50k (although not guaranteed value)
Added 3 points speeding pinch from last month
Reduced annual mileage from 6K to 4K (still more than I did last year)
Premium compared to last year is down ~30%
Ok I think ?

There are no universal 'rules' as such for NCD, it's really vague.
I agree with the post above that if it's your main insured car, I wouldn't insure through Classicline as their risk models/policies don't really work in a world of 'building up' NCD. They don't risk model it, or track it.
They have said they will keep proof on file to be passed on to a future insurer, but you are relying on the future insurer to accept it.
(and underneath all this it's just a tick in an electronic box to feed into a machine....)

Ha ha the Classic Cars tracker fiasco. I had to get one for my Porsche as it was over £40,000. I paid for the lifetime cover after the first year. Whilst it was fitted to the car it kept on sending false alarms ie they would ring me every time I went out to ask if I had moved it. In the end fed up of getting the calls I asked them to fix it.
They then charged +£100 to come over and look at it. The bloke suspected the unit's battery was kaput but was too fat to reach it with the cage and bucket seats :hahaha:. I had to therefore squeeze in myself and dismantle the covers for him to be able to reach the unit with numerous socket extensions. Still got charged though.
I have never had any other calls since even though it has been into the garage for work in Germany and Blighty so not sure they will find it if it gets stolen.

Classic Line also include breakdown. Although it's not valid on a trackday, and neither is the RAC's...as a mate discovered yesterday when he lunched the diff on his e36 M3 track car.
He waited outside the cafe at Donington but they refused to pick him up.
The AA and others will recover from a trackday though.

They provided me with a letter proving my no claims, however I have encountered the following
They will only provide a letter quoting 5 years max no claim.
Other insurance companies do not recognise no claims bonus from classic car type policies
Brokers & insurance companies will not use the central data base to check you have not had a claim.
Basically I am having to pay more because the no claims from classic is not recognised and my previous insurer will also only quote a max of five years no claims. This seems to me a scam on their behalf to increase premiums and deter one from moving to another insurance company.

Mmm - thought this might happen.
So 'keeping your no claims on file' means very little if no-one values it.
They all make up the no claims process as they go along, needs regulating really.
As far as I can tell protected no claims and retaining it if an uninsured driver hits you, all that stuff has no real universal recognition really either. I am not even sure what this central database is and who looks after it.
Only hope is to insure via other family members. And if you can't I wouldn't use Classicline.

Your old no claims bonus is only valid if you renew within two years. That's what I was told talking to brokers.
Had my fill with insurance companies. Wife's policy went up by nearly £200 because someone hit her while stationary and the third party has not admitted liability hence there is still a claim against her name. We did not have to pay the excess as her insurance company is holding the other party 100% responsible, but they will not accept a no claim when renewing her policy.
