Hello All,

my roof needs attention due to lacquer failure.
I need it repaired, probably stripped and re-lacquered to be honest.

It goes without saying that it needs to go to someone who knows what this specific job takes to do perfectly.
I have a great deal of experience with Automotive paint through work, but no facility to use.
I need someone who has done this before.

The chaps who posted on here from Holland seemed to have it cracked but I don't want to put 1,000 miles on the car !!

Looking to hear from Folk who have had this done for a recommendation.
Close to the South Coast please! but obviously prepared to travel for the right Job.

Please don't suggest Simpsons - A CSLR member pointed me in their direction a couple of months back via PM, but after a couple of emails and no responses, I called them twice, and despite having confirmed they had got the emails, still nobody calls back, so I can only assume they are not interested.

Munich Legends ask for Dan they know what they are doing and not far to travel.
Was amazed when I saw what they can do with the lacquer .

Jetstream Motorsport at Bruntingthorpe did mine, it's lovely. Whoever does it, make sure they know just how thin the original gel coat is, because you risk going through if you're a bit gung-ho.

Interesting post on this subject on cutters. For those who find they need a new roof this looks a pretty good option as they are now NLA from BMW.

Ben, i don't think the quality of work was in question as many on here have recommended them but i also had the same experience when contacting Simpsons on 3 occasions, never had any contact back from them. Can only assume they are very busy & don't need the work / have very poor customer service, doesn't exactly fill you with confidence. Shame they can't go the extra mile to get back to potential customers. Kev

KDS are also very good with re doing lacquer. Looks like new. About £800 to do I gather.

Kev

100% agree

Bloody shame though.

I've spent many a buck with John & Anthony over the years and have been 100% satisfied throughout.

I do recall having to exercise extreme patience on more than one occasion when waiting for quotes, parts etc.

Back on topic....whats up with your cf roof??

Talking about customer service I rang Munich this morning about my roof they said there get someone to call me back and I'm still waiting . I've rang a few decent body shops near me and none of them will touch it.

To be honest there isn't much wrong with it, just 2 very small areas where it looks like lacquer has debonded possibly (not entirely sure) but it will only get worse over time so i was interested in remedies / costs etc.

Same as me plus a couple of small chips but the small patches have come over 12 months! Very disappointing.. Not sure I want to spent nearly a thousand pound to correct it just yet with a wedding coming up

I got a stonechip on the roof in week 1

that was nearly 6 years ago

nothing since then!!

Although the roof can be very sensitive to heat

quite surprising how many cars are now suffering from delaminating issues.

Old tubs!!! still the best

Boys, Simpson Motorsport are up to their ears in manic racing season this year. If you want, PM me and I'll have a word with Julian. Between me and Julian we could easily sort a good solution.
