My Name is Chris, I live in Germany and 'm a very proud owner of an (original RHD) SG CSL for a few weeks now.
Within the last months, it was converted to LHD and some other things (major service and some bodywork) were sorted out.
Right now, I'm thinking about getting the oilpump and the big end bearings replaced.
Not only, but also to decide this, it would be very useful to get some information about the history my car had in the UK. All I know, it that it was a (badly repaired) CAT D write off. (BTW: What does that mean exactly?) But thats all.
The licencens plate in the UK was LR04 CEF.
Is the former user member on here?
Anybody else knows something about my car?
Thank you in advance!
Chris
PS: Is this the right thread here for these questions?
So that's 421 uk rhd left !
Welcome Chris. I think CatcD means uneconomic repair by insurance company hence written off. This can happen with a car that has specific expensive parts (eg bumper). Did you not check prior to purchase ?

Hi Chris.
The register doesn't have any record of your car (didn't have any record of your car ) so can't help with history. But please let me know what you find out.
Also what options did it come with and how many miles?

Hi shimmy,
thank you! It is a good point to start.
The CSL has now 51.000 mls (according to the speedo).
Options were Alarm / immobilizer, top tint screen, Xenon, velours car mats and Radio Business

Hi Yanto.
While inspecting the car and the documents I saw a printout of an ebay auction. So the guy I bought the car from, bought it himself via ebay auction. Then converted it to LHD and sold it to me.
In the text of the auction the UK owner wrote something about "CAT D due to panel damage, no chassis damage" (with is fortunately true)
Sadly, I don't have this printout by me.
I asked the seller know, maybe he can get me in contact to the former UK owner.
What means "421"?

Hi all,
I have just joined the forum as I'm currently looking to buy a CSL. I currently have an E92 335i but want something a bit more exciting. I've always wanted an M3, and what better one to go for than the CSL?
I have read a lot about them, seen a lot of pictures and videos, but the problem is I have never seen one in the flesh, let alone driven one!
Any members live in Yorkshire? Anyone currently selling one? Any good threads to give a newbie some tips?
I am keeping an eye on Pistonheads as that seems to have all the ones currently for sale, but if anyone has any other ideas of where to look please let me know.
Thanks, and hope there is someone out there to help me with my search!

Oh, forgot to ask, don't suppose there are any CSL's going to the Yorkshire Post Motor Show at Harewood House, Leeds on 17th June?
Or does anyone know of any other events "up North" where I might see a CSL?
Thanks

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Not necessarily looking to trade in, probably easier to sell privately.
I saw that one, but looking for a lower mileage so that I can put the BMW warranty on it without it costing too much!
Something like this one:

Is this anyone on here?
PS what's happening at Donington on 31 August? Can anyone just turn up to have a look?
Cheers

Just bought my first CSL. Been lurking for a month or so now and have had past addictions with the AudiSRS forum that I manage to kick a couple of years back, my missis is now seeking professional advice as she's caught me on the CSL register a couple of times now. :banghead:
I had been saving for a low mileage, garage beauty queen but with low 20s in the bank I could wait any longer so bagged an 80k miler, low owners with Alcons cup brakes all round. Perfect for what I want from it, trackdays, drift days and European driving trips. With plenty of stone chips on the front already I'm not going to be a princess if it gets anymore. It drives superb with no accident damage to be found.
Been on a trackday and a drift day already and have got more planned. Coming from high power turbo'd Audis, I can't get enough of the induction noise, steering feel and rear wheel drive CSL goodness.
Bumped into Nick Johnson at Santa pod last week so he has been giving me some drifting pointers and having been on road/ring trips before with the Darrens and other CSL owners i've always admired and enjoyed watching the capabilities of the CSL, albeit in the rear view mirror of my RS4 :hahaha: (runs and hides for cover! :wanker:)
Exploring suspension kits at present from advice in previous threads (cheers) and have a contact at Ohlins which worked well on the Audi.
Life story over, beaming from ear to ear, pleased to be an owner and looking forward to meeting people.

3.8, 1993 with 5 speed.
Owning was great except for dual mass flywheel and clutch replacement, £1,400.
It pulled really well with variable cam lift at 4,700 revs. It felt really special as well because the E34 was the last of the hand built M cars. The alacantra seats were v comfy.
Only 343 RHD were built. The last 50 had EDC suspension and 6 speed gearbox.
At today's standards, it doesn't feel super fast but as a fun to drive comfortable car with kudos it's up there...
Would I buy again? maybe, if I had a bigger garage! A good example will increase in value as they are rare and hand built.

Think I'm climbing on the CSL wagon after Christmas. Previously came from a Z4MC and an Exige but buying a flat means I've been car-less for over a year. It's been killing me.
Anyone based North London direction?
Cheers,
SteveWelcome to the register Steve;)

Welcome new people :-D
hello, i'm ian and very much in love with the M3 CSL :notworthy:
now, please don't mock me but i own a (standard) e46 m3 and have added some CSL bits on here and there along with leather recaro pole positions in order to try and improve the car for track day use.
parts include:
genuine console (no more elbow bashing)
genuine boot lid
genuine CSL wheels (not the CS fronts)
erm, replica rear diffuser (cant justify the £600 needed to buy one)
CSL front disc's with BMW performance calipers
there are some images on my face book (ian barford) of the car along with a couple of my past treasures (e30 m3, 328i sport).
i love my car, it does exactly what i need it to do but.....it;ll never be a CSL!
i'm hoping to be accepted into the CSL community with my pimped imposter and maybe in the future, join the club for real!

Hello and Welcome Harryrs and all the best for 2013.
Finding a CSL is one thing, it took me 18 months but I'm picky, Insuring one is an entirely different ball game.
Not wishing to put you off but I would think at you age you are pretty much uninsurable. :bigcry:
I would check that out with CCI, http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/ before you waste your time trying to find one, I'm sure there will still be a few still around in another 10 years, but by then the price of an SG CSL should be around £50K (slightly less for an SB) :supz:

Hello Neil all the best to you for 2013 as well!
I remember it took a while for my dad to find one but when he did it was awesome!
:bigcry: I did check insurance for when I turn 21 and I did get a quote which is in the bracket I would pay let's just hope it still remains the same :hahaha:
If not I don't mind buying one as a future classic and storing it until I can insure it but where is the fun in that :hahaha:

The best of luck with your quest, there is at least 5 members currently questing, so I'm afraid it will be a case of first come first served.
I've advised questers in the past that the right one will come along (with your name on it)
It's just a case of being patient and not buying on impulse, which is oh so tempting.

I've even invented a new category of contributor 'Quester' to cover the recent influx, there are that many people looking who have started posting on the Register.
Which is having the effect of gradually pushing prices up.
I would advise you to always check the 'Cars for Sale' where members advertise their cars when it comes time to part company, and also 'Interesting CSL Links' which is usually where cars that have been found by members for sale eg. Auto Trader, Piston Heads etc. are posted.
The world of the CSL is a fairly closed knit community, as you will find out, we all tend to look out for one another. Self preservation I suppose being such a minority.
Good luck with the Quest - Quester Harry (the 'RS' has to go HarryCSL is 'OK' but not RS) :supz:

Hi all, I've just registered. I have a 2003 M3 at the mo but am looking to purchase a csl. I test drove one today, I will ask a Q in the appropriate section regarding that. I also own a 1973 escort mexico which I have owned on and off since 1987 when I bought it first time round as my first car. I plan to part ex this and my m3 for this particular csl, so I'm pretty serious about a csl!

Hi everybody,
My name is Patrick, I'm based in Switzerland and a first hand owner of a black CSL (I understand those are the faster ones)
Altough tempted many times, I left everything orginial except for the last part of the breaking hose (Steelflex) and the breaking pads as the original setting wasn't satisfying at that time...
It is pure coincidence that I learned about your May event for the 10 year celebration in Munich when a Swiss friend of mine was in London for work last week and had a meeting with one of you guys (please send me a hello if this sounds familiar) and I got in touch with Billy, who kindly guided me to this great page.
Is this forum friends with the German http://forum.m3csl.de/ and it's webmaster Leo? If not it might be an idea to get them in touch with you to join the celebration - just let me know if you would like me to introduce each other.

Hello to all, another imposter here, great forum and have been lurking for a while. I only have a standard M3, 2005 Le Mans Blue, but have been adding various CSL bits to it over the last year or so. Plan to get a full CSL one day, rare as over here in Aus, I think only 25 or so were released into the country. Anyway, here's a few pics of mine, so far have genuine bootlid, diffuser, steering wheel and airbox (LOVE the sound that thing generates!).

Hi, Having recently sold my E60 M5 V10 beast, I had planned on buying an early E46 M3 as my everyday run around & a CSL as my pride and joy, but I soon realised it was going to be harder than I thought to get a nice unabused early M3, and so I ended up spending a bit more than I had planed on car 1, but in return I got a beautiful 2006 M3 CS in Silver Grey.
The downside is that I will now need to save a few more pennies before I can get the CSL, but in the meantime I do have the best of both worlds in the CS.
I'm not into making loads of mods to make the car look like a CSL, although I do have a soft spot for private plates. I currently have a plate [S60 CSL], and rather than leaving it sitting at home I'll probably put it on my CS, unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse for the plate.
I look forward to chatting with you guys!

Hi Bounce, thanks for the welcome! Yeah I couldn't believe my luck when I found this, I'd like to keep it for when I get a CSL, but everything has a price, right!
Regtransfers advertise similar plates, but not as good (Y11 CSL, P13 CSL) for £850 + fees (£955 total). If I'm going to let this go I'd want around £1000.

Hello Shimmy
Just as a small feedback. It looks like the participants of Leo's Forum have been aware of the event since a while (at least before me) and Leo himself as well as at least one other participant are planning on being in Munich for part of the event or possibly more. I trust that they have communicated that directly in some form with you guys?
And referring to AlexK's question: the German Forum still exists in some form but to register one has to send in the car's serial number etc for a background check for proof that one owns a CSL as well as only use full real names instead of nick names. This always has been fine with me but shrank the group at that time when these measures were introduced.
As there are some really engaged BMW enthusiasts in that forum I will see who is still around from the Swiss guys and directly ask them to join for Munich.
Oh and btw: does anyone of you have contact to the Dutch guys? There used to be two Dutch CSL on the Norschleife when I attended the Scuderia courses but I heard that they both switched to M3 GTS. Maybe they still have their CSL...
Regards
Patrick

Also if any want to drive the Salzburgring on the 28th we would welcome more participants, even without CSLs or even BMWs. "The more the merrier"
AlexK and Alx are our resident Swiss members and we have a few German members including Roland who has been helping to arrange our trip. Hopefully they can add some comments and get people excited.

Hello Shimmy
... I heard that they both switched to M3 GTS. Maybe they still have their CSL...
I hope for them. The GTS is not as good as the CSL (I tried both in the Paul Ricard Racetrack past year).

Hi,
Just joined yesterday but have been lurking around this sire for a year or two on and off.
As of yet I am not a CSL owner at present but actively looking to rectify this over the next month or two, depending if I can find a a CSL with 50k miles or less, with full BMW service history.
Heres for hoping!
If anyone is aware of any CSL's for sale, it would be appreciated if you could drop me a mail.
I aware of the two at present for sale on pistonheads, both good cars I am sure, but unfortunately they didn't meet my expectations.
Past history of cars of any note
BMW e36 328 sport (this car hooked me on german cars)
Audi B5 RS4
BMW 530d sport tourer
BMW 535d Sport DMS in Ruby Black (best allround car to date)
Porsche 997 gen II C4S
Current Cars
Audi A7 Quattro S-Line Family Bus
Porsche 968 CS (since 2007, keeper as I have spent to much time and money to sell it now, 97k miles but looks like its done 7k)
BMW X5 4.0 M-Sport (wifes car)
Intention for the CSL is to be a keeper, and maintain its quality and use for occasional trackday, but mostly for fun and grin factor as I have always loved these cars:smt055
Hope to meet up with some of you at an event or track day over next year or so.
Rgds

I have been looking there, it normally leads to the history of the car which certainly helps in my decision making.
Trouble is with changing my user name, doesnt keep continuity between the forums, trackday sites etc, work i'm on, and more importantly my brain cells cant cope with all the user names, passwords, pincodes i have at present:sad:

Just registered here as it seems a great source of info for CSL owners.
I've just moved on after owning my R26.R and ringing it for about 200 laps - changed it for a CSL now to get to the next level. LM24 was my first trip and the car absolutely rocks!

Collected car from Mark on Monday, and a little 600 mile journy home via Abroath & Keswick, I got the car home to Wiltshire last night, not quite as clean as when I picked it up I have to say. Gives me a little weekend job:).
Well chuffed with the car, especially now I got my head around the SMG (did take a quick call to Mark at one point:wink:)
Looking forward to years of driving please.

Hi All,
New here, been lurking awhile, owned a SG CSL about 5 years ago with 95k on the clock!
With new wish bushes and RTABs it drove like a new'un - cant remember why I sold it now - had an attack of the "sensibles" I think.
Ended up with a 964RS which I bought to enjoy which is now worth stupid money as it is original paint/panel and VERY yellow.
Upshot is that Donny last Sunday (almost came off at Redgates in the rain) was my last day out on track and I am now looking for a CSL to use for weekend hooning and a few track days per year. I hadn't realised that Robmug was selling otherwise I would have been all over him like a rash!
Thought it would be rude to start posting in the wanted section without saying hello first.
Think this forum is great - please be gentle :-)
Cheers,
Kev

Hi All,
Excellent forum, just about to upgrade to a CSL from my my E30 M3. Always fancied one and the steady increase in E30 M3 values now means I can more or less get straight into a CSL for the same money.
Will probably be asking lots of questions over the coming weeks and would be grateful for any advice.

I have an E46 M3 with some bits done. I try to get out to the Nurburgring at least once a year but other than that, it is pretty much just road use.

Hi everybody. I've been lurking for a while now but thought it was time I introduced myself. :)
I have just begun my search for a CSL. I've had an E46 M3 and a 135i before, both in the states before moving back to London for work. One car I have always lusted after but never had an opportunity to own (as they don't exist in the states) is the CSL so hopefully now is my chance!
There seems to be some great information on here, as well as a decent amount of events. If/when I find a car then I look forward to meeting some of you at track days and other social events.

Hello to all CSL fanatics :supz:
Greetings from sunny Bulgaria. I'm enjoying my Sterling Grey E46 M3 for 3 and a half years now and like many others I'm stunned by the CSL which being so similar to the regular M3 like mine is soooo different in almost every aspect. An unique piece of machinery! I've modded my car a bit (Supersprint race exhaust and KW v3 coilovers) but there is still one mod that I want soo badly that disturbs my sleep - a CSL airbox. And it will happen, sooner or later.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi and that I'm glad to be here. With the amount of enthusiasm around The Register seems to be a nice place to be.
And at the end a few shots of my precious:

Just thought i'd introduce myself and say hi to all you CSLphiles. :supz: Not new to bm's or M3's having owned various over the years inc E30 318i, 325i saloon and touring, E36 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i touring, an E30 M3 sportevo. E36 M3, a couple of E46 330 sports, E53 X5 sport, E46 M3 smg , 118d, 120d, (997 Carrera S,) Actually going through that list sounds like ive got some sort of an obsession. Having sold the 997 just before demolishing a dilapidated old garage to fund the construction of a nice new double garage. Im now faced with a 36m2 of empty garage space that needs filling. Funds are tight and the wife keeps on telling me that we need to get rid of the bed sheets being used as curtains, But who needs curtains when you've got a void in the garage heh? You've guessed it, the itch needs to be satisfied...

Hi!
I'm Matt, I'm currently driving a Supercharged Eunos roadster, but in the short term am looking at something new, and faster/newer/etc...
Having thought hard about what to have and compiled a long and then short list, current favourites are the CSL, and 996 Turbo :-D
I had a ride in Andy Carlisle's at the 'ring a few years ago, and was so impressed, but they where never really something that I thought I'd be able to get, but new circumstances mean it's probably possible :-D
Hi, I considered a 996 turbo before mine but quickly realised, great though they are the prices are only on the down. The CSL however the opposite is true. There's more to it than that granted but the CSL is a far more special car
Plenty of CSL's to choose from right now.....

Hi.
Firstly I shalln't be apologising for the username! :blalalala:
I have a love for performance cars generally, as I'm sure we all do.
I own a 1991 Audi UR Quattro, with 58k miles:

And a 1998 Audi S4 Trck Car:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q95/carlstoakes/S790%20AOW/Cadwell2.jpg (http://s134.photobucket.com/user/carlstoakes/media/S790%20AOW/Cadwell2.jpg.html)

I'm interested in getting a low miler SG CSL, and would be interested in a straight swap for the UR if anyone fancies it...

Hey new member here.
Currently own a Maserati GTS but looking to add a M3 to the ranks. I was originally looking at a manual under £10k, which then progressed on to a £15k CS and now I'm on to a CSL... :hahaha:
One of the main reasons is I've been passenger and driver of my mates CSL for the last 6 years and it never fails to put a smile on my face. So anything other than a CSL would be a let down I feel. The CSL is so dam good out the box it would be a false economy to buy a basic one and then change the suspension, brakes, seats, airbox and everything else that makes the CSL a CSL. Plus it would still never be a CSL.
Anyway, now I've established why I want one it's time to find one, not after a garage queen so anybody selling a high miler?? Cash waiting.
Cheers,
Scott

Oof, that's bloody lovely. Are you flogging it to get the CSL, or keeping both?
Is Das Chin's CSL still for sale?

Hi Derek, I seen your car this morning and it looks mint but unfortunately it's more than I was wanting to spend, it's a shame I wasn't looking 2 years ago.
Thanks anyway.

I'm selling the Maserati to fund my house extension, which isn't due to start till the end of the year, so will no doubt end up running both for a while.
Yeah Nick's car is still for sale, made him what I thought was a very fair offer this morning but unfortunately he's wanting too much for it. It's a shame we couldn't come to an agreement as it really is the one I want.

Welcome aboard  Stunning Masser in superb colour combo :smokin:
If you're hoping to bag a decent Cecil in the low £20Ks you might struggle a bit as prices have moved north since last year.
Best of luck hunting.

Thanks, yeah it will be a shame to see it go as it really is stunning in the flesh.
I wouldn't say prices have moved in the last 6 months though.

Hi! :smt039
My name is Chappers (David Chapman) and I have just finished paying for my CSL! It's a car I've wanted ever since I saw it on Top Gear's Isle of Man review.
After a bad experience with a nameless but frequent seller of CSLs in 2012, I was put off getting one due to a revless and clutch-slurry test drive at a time when I would have had to sell my current car to buy the CSL, the drive left me cold and I enjoyed the drive home in the Noble so much I forgot about them for a while.
Times have however changed for the better and having sold my cheapo runaround E36 328i following a fit of rage with a seized caliper, I decided it was time to look at getting something a bit nicer for my everyday usage. I started looking at Megane 250s and realised I wasn't far off E92 M3 territory, so started looking at those and to be honest they left me a bit cold. A lovely all-round car but they didn't match my personality. So I started wondering, I'm already at the bottom end of the E92 market, how much more is a CSL?
Spotted Das Chin's car for sale and started doing my research. The rest as they say is history. I collect at the weekend and will be posting pictures on Monday!

Welcome Chappers, glad you took the plunge.
As a daily eh ? Trips to garden centre will be fun.
Enjoy (and don't crunch your flippers !)
