Welcome to the fold Andy.
I've test driven a couple of CSs before I bought my CSL  and they're OK but I couldn't justify the extra £££ premium over the standard M3 E46 (which it self is a decent car) yet only a few grand cheaper then the CSL, despite the CS being quite rare. IMHO it all depends on how you're planning to use your M3. If it's going to be your only car for the daily grind, you want a RARE E46 but you like your creature comforts (heated leather, Sat Nav/TV, Cruise etc. ) then the CS might be more suitable however if you're planning on tracking your M3, even just a little bit  then it's definitely got to be the one with the Carbon Air box :supz: + you won't have to change your sigy name to seeS... no L ;) :hahaha:

If I remember correctly it was the interior that was extremely grubby with a worn out/through steering wheel showing foam beneath the Alcantara and mucky seats but since it's near you then why not... I may be mixing this one with another. Let us know if I remembered correctly ;) :hahaha:

Hi Simon,
Guys,
Did not get to see the CSL tonight as work dragged on so I called to re-book.
They said car has only been with them a week or so, tyres are all 5 to 6mm Goodyears
FBMWSH and due a oil service in 3K,they say it has xenons which were a uncommon option (are they?)
I forgot to ask for the chassis No but will tomorrow and get it checked.
Can anybody tell me what the minimum brake disc thickness should be front and rear.
Is there anything else I need to look out for.
Andy

AndyXenons are very common on the CSL:smokin:,i think this is a different Csl than the one Matt is thinking of , as the other one had no A/C,it also says they have sold 5 recently.Have a look at the buying guide for things to look out for.;)

If it's really YC04 ZON as is shown in the pictures, then they've had it advertised for longer than a week - it's been up for a month at least, maybe longer.

Hi all,
I'm on the hunt for a nice tidy CSL at the moment.
I have been reading this forum the last week or so trying to get as must info as possible before I hand over any cash!
I'm travelling over from Ireland on Saturday to go look at a few car's.
Anyone know of any car in the UK that are not on Pistonheads for sale?
I'd prefer one that hasn't had a hard life on the track;)
Thanks

Hat's off to those two as the car is mint, handles and sounds

Im still smiling from last nights blast, blipping and farting around the back roads.
I got out the car closed the door, then wanted to go for another blast.
The E46 M3 doesnt have that effect.
Thanks for the Advice for CCI Insurance, got it for £600 per year.
Want to try and get to the nurburgring in the future and do some track days.

Newbie posting but been checking out the site for some time as I do rate the CSL as a track day classic......
Friends with Dazza and done the ring thing with a few from here.
Don't own a CSL or even a BMW for that matter lol
Currently run a astra opc that is my track day toy, partially stripped, half cage, pole positions, alcon 6 pots, r888's. lsd and 300bhp etc etc etc......works well and does perform but cheap on parts and easy to come by these days.
The wife has recently ordered a 1M Coupe so that will be our first venture into the world of BMW and introduction to M sport.
Please be gentle :hahaha:

Yep swayed very close to the CSL many many times recently but the 1M Coupe won in the end for a practical everyday car, thanks for the shove :hahaha:
I am afraid the astra will remain though for some time yet, it upsets the unexpecting on track ;)

Yeah, the car is good now after a little maintenance work in March/April (ask Dazza!)
So far i have done Donington and a trip to the Ring in April and am off to Silverstone this weekend.
Beyond that i hope to do a few more UK dates as well as at least one other Ring trip. How about you?

Nice one, so the work roster is giving you some time to get out on track hey......................maintenance?????????????? ?
Wheeled the astra out of the garage last Fri for the first time this year and gave it a run around Bedford to break it in, other than that late Dec we went ice skating at Brands, was an interesting track session in the snow, learn't a thing or 2, not like we get a lot of snow in Aus lol
No ring trip this year as we have been budgeting for a drive across the US throughout Oct (east to west coast) and putting the funds together for the 1M arrival so it will just be local runs for now.

Hey guys,
Thought I'd finally say hello, I've been trawling the forum for the last few weeks. I'm shortly going to be on the look out for a CSL so have a few questions. Apologies if they've been asked before.
Last three cars have been mk1 focus RS, clio V6 255 and megane R26.
I loved the FRS and R26 but didn't quite fall for the Clio charm. I thought the ride was quite bad. I know the CSL is going to be hard but has anyone got any comparisons with a V6 255?
Also, how does the CSL interior hold up rattles wise? I've always been so impressed with BMW interiors being so solid.
Many thanks for any help.

Just signed up this morning some people may recognise my username off Pure GT and PH's. I've met Duncan on here before and my old pals Craig and Ian post here.
I had been looking for a GT3 RS but had a few close shaves with dodgy cars including one imported from Hong Kong!!!! Anyway works been tight and I've decided the extra money for an RS is best kept in the bank for now until next year when Gen 2 prices have came down a tad and im hopefully making a few more quid. Anyway drove Ian aka "EVLXGE's" CSL round croft a few weeks ago and was completely blown away...so much so that i'm now looking for a CSL .
I know of a couple of cars available but anyone looking at selling please PM me, im not frightened off by cars that need a little TLC, not wanting to spend 30k etc. Cheers!

Hello,
I am a new member from Geneva, Switzerland.
I have a 1996 BMW 850CSi Individual with 49'000 km and I have just purchased a grey M3 CSL with 50'000 km.
The car is great, but it needs some cosmetic stuff to repair:
- The passenger (right) side carbon panel is cracked
- The interior rear view mirror has a stain
- The rear center console is peeling
- The suede on the steering wheel is a bit used
It has the optional OEM sport seats ( http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BL95&mospid=50641&btnr=52_2745&hg=52&fg=10 ) but I am looking for the OEM bucket seats.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any of these parts.
I will post some pictures soon.
Regards,
Alex

An Individual BMW is one with a bespoke equipment; the most common is a color scheme that is not available in the regular model.
My 850CSi is the only one produced in TechnoViolett.

Haven't got a CSL, only a slightly scruffy '02 M3, that I've had for nearly 5 years. Only just starting to use it properly as my two daughters are 3 and 5, and keep me very busy, but I've managed to start freeing up some time and blag some trips away. Was at the Ring at the beginning of April for the weekend and I'm heading to the Spa trip on 4th October, so hope to see some of you there then !

Hello Folks,
Joined the site a little while ago but never followed thru on the intro bit...
I'm located across the pond and have one of the only CSL's here. I have been told that there are two more lurking underground.
In addition to the CSL, the garage holds other bimmers as well.
Most interesting bimmer owned was the 1991 Prodrive "Mobil1" BTCC E30M3 touring car driven by Mr. Soper. Purchased it from a New Zealander a few years ago and sold it to a gentleman in the UK this past year.
I am thoroughly addicted to driving BMW's on track and even instruct for some local groups as I have been active in the sport for over 15 years.
Looking forward to participating in many lively discussions regarding the awesome CSL.

Thanks everyone. Yes i am sure i want a Silver Grey CSL. It is the colour I prefer though to be honest there is nothing wrong with either colour. I would be keeping it for life if only i can find a good one.

Hi everyone,
I joined the csl register today and have spent a couple of interesting hours reading the comments etc!
I have a 73 CSL chassis 2285346 which is presently partly restored at my bodyshop in Wales, however seeing as i am living in the Costa del Sol now i am shipping the car to Spain to continue the task!!....it had many new panles fitted by a guy near Derby (Mark Smith i think) about 20 years ago, then we did a bare metal respray and since then it has been dry stored. I've probably mislaid a lot of bits and pieces so hopefully i will be able to pick peoples brains here who have a much greater knowledge of all things 3.0CSL:)

Hi to All,
I thought it was time to introduce myself as I had signed up to the forums back in July as I wanted to see how active the CSL community is and it certainly is with a fair few Characters :)
The name is Chris and I am based in SE London (Bromley area) and I work in the IT Sector. I have been wanting a CSL ever since they first came onto the scene but due to work and other reasons (kids, Houses, etc) I have always had to put it on the back burner. Now in the last 6 odd months the urge is there to finally get the Car I want.
However I am no expert in Purchase of Cars etc and this was part reason for a bit of sitting in the background and learning as much as I could on the pros and cons of the CSL.
I paid up my Membership as I am going I hope to be a active member and from there to pop the old cherry on a track day or 2 with you orrible lot (The Elms and Southend trips sounded fun from what I read also).
So I am hoping you lot will take us under your wing at the start as I will be looking to purchase the Car before Christmas and any help in Info on the Car (I think Shimmys department :) ) will be grateful and returned in kind.
What I am looking for is a Sub 60k SG Car FSH (just for the warranty side tbh) and I have double checked it is the faster of the 2 colours :blalalala: .
So over the next 2-3 weeks I might be posting away like mad or PM's sent :) asking for Info or help though as said I will make it worth while
I already have one CSL that I am intrested in near Oxford but at moment I am trying to get the Histroy etc all together. I think due to change of owners with this car it is likley to have been on cslregister at some point.

Yeap Seen Azraels car it looks nice if I was ready to purchase today (funds will be cleared in 7-14 days) I would go have a look, However the Black wheels do not really do it for me and I would need to spend a few £'s more on refurb, Tyres etc. Though Saying that I have seen Az's Post on PH with the Extras and Prehaps if its still around I will give him a PM concerning it (though I doubt it will be around that long :) )
thanks Shimmy though for the reply, also what would you need info wise on a Car to look through your History database etc?
Oh a quck edit while I was writing this I see 2 welcome posts :) cslgirl- Thanks and yeap Work in Bromley though live just south of Bromley near a Airfield ;) and Matt I am just itiching to get the everything in place so I can get the CSL and this is the sort of recommendations that I was hoping to see from what it seems a good bunch of People.

IIRC Steve has a perfect set of OEM silver CSL wheels to replace the black ones, which I think he did mentioned he'd swap over, if that's any help.
Whatever you do though don't rush it and jump at the first one you test drive ;) they can have that sort of effect on you :smt055

Welcome to the Forum Chris, and good luck in the finding the right car.
There's a few good one's for sale at the moment, Azrael is one of them. To be honest, maybe someone would be interested in swapping the wheels with OEM Silver CSL's, you just never know your luck. Someone fancying a change, whatever. Worth thinking about.

Hi chaps,
Want to say hello I picked up my CSL last week and I've got to say it's the best car I've ever driven! I've gone through a few cars in the last couple of years and never found anything that I've opened the garage door after the 3rd time and think yes I really want to go for a drive. I've got to say I cant see myself selling it, it's just too good! As it's a weekend car I struggled to find the time to use my previous cars but I don't think the CSL will have time to collect dust!
Only one thing I have found is that at ahem higher speeds when I brake there is a bit of kidder but then at lower speeds its gone? Any ideas?
I live in Milton Keynes so hope to see some of you out and about!

Hi Shimmy. There were only a handful brought in by the concession holder/approved dealer. No parallel imports for CSLs afaik! The unit I'm interested in is with the original owner...
Been reading the board's "Buyers Guide". My thanks to Mark CSL for the post. I'd need to do further reading on the board [& elsewhere in the net] and hope to get a better understanding [like sub-frame issues if this is prevalent in the CSL too] before I commit.
Thanks for the welcome too...

Hi guys, new to the forum. Currently own an E92 M3 but looking at selling up or p/xing for a CSL. Not too fussed about the colour, but I love grey cars.
I love my E92, but the E46 M3 is probably my all time favourite car and the S54 one of the best engines ever built. I want to own the ultimate incarnation of the E46 M3. Plus its the sort of car you can really take pride in owning. If anyone lives in the Reading/Berkshire area and fancies taking me out for a spin please feel free :)

Awesome site you got going here....i am from South Africa and just recently bought a 03' CSL. The numbers are very limited here...we only got 65 of them so they are pretty scarce...I think about 20 of them already written off....

Hello guys!! What a pleasure to be here...not only because this looks like a great place to be, but also because if I'm here it means that I'm close to finally buy a CSL!!
Always had a track toy, but since I moved from Italy to London I had to drive more comfortable/less track oriented cars... :(
I'm a regular to the Nordschleife, the first car I drove there was actually in 2001 and it was ironically my old old M3 E46, so it will be great to go back to the green hell in a CSL!
Hope to be ready soon to be 100% part of the forum. ;)

From Ireland but Living in Strasbourg at the minute. I'm not (yet) a CSL owner but I hope to pick you guys brains in helping me choose the right car!
At the minute I'm without a car (apart from a VW corrado parked up in the garage back in Ireland) since the priorities were moving out and getting settled in France.
Now that the summer months are rolling in, I hope to get something pretty soon (in the next month or two)

There's a few of us Irish guys on here, so if you're ever back in Ireland and near Dublin on the first Sunday of the month drop down to the Octane C&C as one of us sometimes brings a CSL along

Cheers Leins,
I've never been to Octanes C&C but it seems to be a very popular meet.
Yeah the "Big Meet" was a great success last year so we're trying to get all BMW clubs involved as much as possible this year. We're working hard behind the scenes (with a pretty limited budget) so hopefully there will be something for everyone!
The E30 sounds interesting! I've very much a soft spot for one but the lust for a CSL is taking preference!! My brother has 318is with an S50 conversion which is way too much fun to drive!
And of course, af any of you guys from the register want to come over to Ireland for the weekend, you would be more than welcome

Hi all,
I currently own an M3 CS but I'm really feeling the need to add a letter!
Looks a good site.
Cheers,
Craig.

Cheers Leins,
I've never been to Octanes C&C but it seems to be a very popular meet.

My Name is Chris, I live in Germany and 'm a very proud owner of an (original RHD) SG CSL for a few weeks now.
Within the last months, it was converted to LHD and some other things (major service and some bodywork) were sorted out.
Right now, I'm thinking about getting the oilpump and the big end bearings replaced.
Not only, but also to decide this, it would be very useful to get some information about the history my car had in the UK. All I know, it that it was a (badly repaired) CAT D write off. (BTW: What does that mean exactly?) But thats all.
The licencens plate in the UK was LR04 CEF.
Is the former user member on here?
Anybody else knows something about my car?
Thank you in advance!
Chris
PS: Is this the right thread here for these questions?

New from France!
I am looking for buying an M3 CSL, optionless (no aircon, no radio, ...)
For now, I am making a checklist of all I need to look at when I see a car!
Thanks for the forum, and all the information that is in it!
