Nearly placed a deposit on one yesterday as it is refundable, but debating whether BM will swamp the market eventually like the M4 and kill values. If so I should wait
Anyone else got one on order? Looks bloody great!

Safe place to put your money for now!
I think they will ramp supply up in 2017, which will kill residuals. Sure we will learn more on supply over the coming months...

I think that anyone in an M2 this year will get there mony back at the start of nextyear but after that i can see the prices droping and at 50k if you add spec i would buy an M3 or M4
If it was a limited edition now thats a differant story i would have wanted 1
This could be BMW will make a limited edition M2 CSL :whistle::whistle:

Having been unconfirmed as a Limited Edition M Car at the time, this also put me off, despite price being 'Affordable' since the E46 M3. My money went elsewhere.

I think the problem for the m2 is that the 2 series coupe is now going to be updated and revised in line with the 1 series which will mean new versions of the m2 as years go by. The 1m coupe won't have this problem because we no longer have a 1 series coupe

I've had one on order for a while. Coming in April. Not bothered by limited edition or values, only that it seems to go somewhere back to what a small M car should be, like the 1M really.
It's great value when you think what I paid for E46 M3 back in the day. Plus with sensible spec (I'm going light on spec) it's well under the same spec M3/4 price wise and I really don't want to spend £65k. Makes perfect sense for me but maybe not everyone.
I really hate this speculative market on new cars. I make money from my business, not new cars. They are to enjoy...................while we can!

the M2 is an attractive package and nearer to the original M ethos than all the recent offerings from BM.

Test drove one on Friday. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It does feel more everyday than the CSL, not as special. You also sit very high in it. I dare say that with a set of bucket seats it would be quite the steer. However in three years time the CSL will feel just as special where as the M2 will be, well, just an old M2.

I've driven the new M2 and I must say I wasn't impressed.
It looks fantastic in the LBB colour and it really does attract attention.
However I did not like the steering, it just feels heavy. For me the interior is a massive let down. Very poor seats for an M car and the quality of the interior does not justify the price. If I'm honest I much preferred the predecessor the 1M.
AlexGTT
28-04-2016, 10:33 PM
Ok, got to pick it up tonight. Only done 50 miles so early yet but here goes:
It's looks the business, like the 1M looks wider than it is long. Wheels are very nice and fill those wide arches impressively. Has serious road presence.
Interior? I can see why some feel let down but I'm not. Reason? Because I can see what they have done - built it down to a price and put the money into the chassis and dynamics. It's perfect for me in the role the car plays and I find the seats very comfortable if a little lacking in support. I specified manual seats, as I did with the m135i.
Engine can't judge yet as running in service required at 1200 miles but it feels like a cracker. I got in and as I always do pushed sport+ straight away, no point pussyfooting about. They have nailed the noise, it sounds fab for a turbo motor. Can't describe it but I love it and so do people on the street from the reactions. Sounds so different to an m3/4 and far far better.
Gearbox? Mmmm, not sure so will reserve judgement for now. My old v8 m3 felt better, more engaging. For some reason I feel a bit remote from this one but I'll drive some more to form conclusion.
Steering and suspension is well judged to me. Much better steering feel the the m3/4. Suspension is very nice and in no way harsh. Soaks up the bumps impressively and is extremely sure footed. Seems to control body weight better than an m3/4. Feels like it'll hang the back end out for fun.
It's quick and fun to sum up concisely and as a daily for me provides real entertainment. More to come as I really get to know it.

OK, update. 450 miles in. Forming a bond with this car now but must try harder to get run in mileage done. Very bad effort so far!
Steering - I was already growing tired of the electric PAS. There's a strange issue to the non-feeling PAS braking over bumps that I just can't get my head around. That was until I discovered sport+ gets rid of it. I'm now defaulting straight to sport+ the second the car starts. It's still there a tiny bit but the firmer steering setting in sport+ makes the car much more controllable without the strange missing feel over bumps.
That's all for now apart from it's a riot to drive and sounds the nuts!
Still happy but it's no CSL. Can't wait to get it back on the road later this month.

Running in service done.
It's a brilliant bit of kit and fuckin rapid! Revs properly to 7 unlike M135i/235i. Sounds the nuts. Looks brilliant. On a good A/B road you really need no more power just this side of sane speeds.
I have decided the steering is utter wank! All electric PAS is utter shit. It's better than most and better than the M3/4 set up but I really think M division should stick to their guns with normal steering like they do with run flat tyres. :banghead:
However, as is the genius of M division, somehow it doesn't take too much shine off the car. It's a proper balls out tool this thing.
Overall, happy as a pig in shit.

Today, across the Beacons, in the pissing rain I had the drive of my year so far. Took the long way back to the office. This thing is an absolute ball and in limited traction conditions it's so balanced at sane speeds. In my own mind I felt like a driving God and did things I wouldn't dream of in the CSL and similar conditions.
I'm even starting to get the steering. My preferred settings are chassis/steering in comfort, everything else sport+ and traction off. :smt055
This car is the classic grower. You really need time to get to know it and when you do it comes alive.
