Hello,
A hypothetical question. What is the cheapest I can get a CSL (not a CatC/D) for?
Answers on a post card please

Think a £30k car would be a very rough, battered and unloved CSL.

That was 2 years ago Shimmy ;)
The fact is, right now my Cecil is the least expensive one in the UK @ offers around £45K : http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13630&page=13
... next one up from mine is @ £49,995... but it's the slower colour  and with imperfect provenance. The rest are @ hi 50s to low 90s :smokin:

Within the last year there has been mine (70k miles, £30k) and there was a high mileage one which I think was something like 120k miles and 23k, I haven't seen any others below that price, mine wasn't exceptionally cheap, but prices have moved a lot in the last 12 months £40k is the new £30k.

Despite the rising UK Cecil values we're still lagging behind the Euro LHD market...
According to Mobile.de the cheapest CSL on there at the moment is @ E95K: http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=214980591&damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&climatisation=&usageType=PRE_REGISTRATION&adLimitation=&fuels=PETROL&zipcode=&scopeId=C&usage=USED&isSearchRequest=true&minFirstRegistrationDate=2002-01-01&maxFirstRegistrationDate=2005-12-31&makeModelVariant1.makeId=3500&makeModelVariant1.modelId=45&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=CSL&pageNumber=1
The rest of the LHD CSLs are E100K + including this Option-less SG LHD @ E107,500 :http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=215413888&damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&climatisation=&usageType=PRE_REGISTRATION&adLimitation=&fuels=PETROL&zipcode=&scopeId=C&usage=USED&isSearchRequest=true&minFirstRegistrationDate=2002-01-01&maxFirstRegistrationDate=2005-12-31&makeModelVariant1.makeId=3500&makeModelVariant1.modelId=45&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=CSL&pageNumber=1#
Then there's this SB Museum piece @ E169,900 : http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=219816830&damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&climatisation=&usageType=PRE_REGISTRATION&adLimitation=&fuels=PETROL&zipcode=&scopeId=C&usage=USED&isSearchRequest=true&minFirstRegistrationDate=2002-01-01&maxFirstRegistrationDate=2005-12-31&makeModelVariant1.makeId=3500&makeModelVariant1.modelId=45&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=CSL&pageNumber=1

I don't think there are too many that are battered and rough.
You would need to find a high mileage car to get a lower price.
I've had mine for about six weeks,it needs some TLC with small areas of surface rust and paint scuffs to be done. Booked in for paint but that has been delayed for a few weeks.
Cheapest I've seen for sale around the time I got mine was £41K
SSS
what's your budget?
I'm reading between the lines and guessing £35K +/- £5K
Hate to rain on one's parade but that's so 2013.

£45K will buy you Matt's if you speak to him nicely.

I think it is much more useful to post prices with mileage if you want any sensible comparison. All of the cars for sale at the moment are particularly low mileage examples.

Sorry, I forgot, we don't want a sensible comparison of where prices are, just to show that the only ones for sale are very expensive so we can all keep talking prices up.
Here are the current cars on AT.
£87k 16k miles
£70k 19k miles
£68k 17.5k miles
£67k 34.5k miles
I am sure when some of the more 'normal' mileage cars are back on the market we will see the prices back at £40k.

The question was of course "what can you get one for?" and the answer to that is currently a very definitive £45k. Mine and some of the other 100,000 milers are obviously worth less if Matt's wont sell for that at the moment, but mine isn't for sale. Whether or not they're "worth" this money, you'd have to put way more on the table to convince someone not selling to part with their beloved car. Circumstances change but with such few cars available, it's possible all the ones with the right mileages are with the right people -the high are with the users, the lows are with the collectors. I'm planning many a trip to fully use mine this year :)
I think the days of the £3x,xxx CSL have now gone, unless of course it is a Cat C/D. We shall see. Maybe there will be another global shitstorm and all of our cars with be bartered for bread rations by September...

Budget is £40 K +/- £3K but I am actively looking for a high mileage car and quite like the Black. One I can drive around the M25 everyday.
Garage queens are not for me.
I think Matt's car is lovely but it is probably too hard for me. I want OEM suspension not Powerflex. Just a personal preference but every Powerflex car I have driven on the road is wonderfully direct but transmits all the road imperfections.
For me I think the standard CSL is good enough for the road.

You'd be mad to discount it for that reason, without trying it.
CSL suspension is actually quite harsh anyway, so I don't think you will notice the addition of the Powerflex bushes.

With all due respect SSS... how would you know Powerflex RTAB & antiroll bar bushes have made my CSL harsher than OEM set up ?
The fact is ( this is based on my actual, personal experience of both OE & Powerflex RTAB back to back) there is no difference in road feel or manners... my only reason for fitting Powerflex RTAB bushes... the "Black serious" ones, which are superior quality to the bubble gum purple crap Powerflex sell to boy racers, was longevity & consistent reliability  as the OEM ones are of poor design and deteriorate very quickly through corrosion as they are made of cheep rubber & aluminium which oxidises, expands and spits the rubber inner out about every 3 years or 30K miles. My CSL has had 3 set of OEM RTAB (changed under warranty) and I just got fed up having to put another inferior OEM RTAB.
Further more, if you think stock CSL is smooth and comfortable on the commute you Sir are very much mistaken ;) and might want to consider the softer option, a stock E46 M3 with heated leather and softer suspension
As for my Cecil... I personally think the real problem for you is it's way too clean for your planed usage... as you've already indicated you like them dirty & hanging :gayfight: and mine is the solar opposite of what you're after :smt055
BTW isn't time you've introduced yourself ? We won't bite ;)

I think the Powerflex on the CSL just give it a harsh ride, ruin the subframe quicker and give you nothing else.
As long as you have RTAB plates you have doen all you need to do unless you make it a racer with a cage

Yes, I once read somewhere "not putting miles on your car is like not have sex with your girlfriend so she will be more desirable to her next boyfriend"
I want to use it, enjoy it and (forgive me: put a normal drivers seat in it) and enjoy it.
Hence looking for a "used" one.
If I lose a few grand after I sell it then so be it. Life is short

It is I have lost friend unexpectedly and for that reason feel that a car is just a car.
I dropped my GSX parking it. It was perfect before that. The following week I dropped it on the other side. I laughed.
I have done 10000 miles on it since. I look after it and it gets serviced properly and fitted with the best tyres.
If it sells for a few hundred pounds less when the time comes to get rid of it then so be it.
I went to the silverstone classics a few years ago and parked up and left to see other cars and enjoy the day. I found it intriguing that some owners just sat and guarded their cars all day.

The question you should be asking is what is the best value for money rather than what is the cheapest.
If I was looking to buy brake discs, a parachute, a life raft, scuba tanks (you get the idea)....i'd want the best price for the tool entirely capable of the job in hand.
In that case, straight car, well serviced, looked after etc. It'll likely start with a 4.
