That is mighty impressive as long as the car did the time "as is".
Personally i don't trust any laptimes published by the manufacturer anymore.
I'll wait until the SportAuto put it through its paces, at least they will tell you if the car had any non-production modifications (camber etc)

But i like how raw the special versions have become (rear seat delete, fire extinguisher etc) just wish bmw would not limit the production numbers so much. So they will actually be used as a track car rather than a collectors item.

I asked this to some M executives on an M event here in Istanbul last year and their reasoning was the difficulty they had to move the CSLs last time. They said there were cars sitting at the dealers for a year and more. They are being more cautious I guess.

Yes thats probably the reason but if they would make more the could also lower the price, substantially. The m3 csl was actually a bargain compated to the gts'.

honestly for a blown motor, I'd much rather do it in my GTR. Merrrrrrr....... :birdman:

Plus, it just looks like they put some need for speed parts on it instead of a proper engineering exercise.

Getting more shitty as we progress.

The CSL was 60k to the 80k for the 996 GT3.

So £122k plays about the same for the 991 GT3 & £145k for the 991RS (if you can get one).

I'd prefer to buy the 911. And I do like BMW's :)

You would be right in the case of the E92 GTS but I believe the M4 GTS is much more bespoke car than the E92 version. Much like the CSL. Not to mention the giant power hike from the stock M4.

There are many CSL touches here and there, like being offered in sb and grey, Alcantara seats, dash and consoles, bespoke door cards etc...

P.S. Love the M color details on the door pulls and seat belts...

Hi Mike

This Autocar article does cite the 30 UK examples as being RHD.

"Just 700 examples of the M4 GTS will be offered for sale. Of these, 30 will make it to the UK in right-hand-drive form. Despite the car’s £121,770 starting price, BMW said it has had more expressions of interest than available cars."

Power from a blown motor is so easy. I bumped my GTR by a few pipes and a map by 120bhp. Cost like nothing. Door cards, E92 GTS had them also, dash /console etc simple to do nowadays.

Look at the aero etc. Cheap exercise. Compare that to the 458 speciale. Now that is a proper engineering exercise.

///M is not what it use to be. Its loosing its touch big time, but its not a bad product. Just the competition is all over it and some even exceed it by order and magnitude.

Just had call from Dealer, the first 30 were snapped up within minutes.
I placed deposit c.a. 10.00am, and didn't make the list.:bigcry:
Somehow I think it was all done beforehand, as dealer only got info that morning. Seeing as PH had published all the info seems to confirm this.
They are waiting to see if anyone drops out, slim chance!:banghead:
BMW said to the dealer they could have sold 90, not sure why they didn't, the limited numbers with all the cost of that development must make it difficult to break even.

Interesting.
I left a £1,000 deposit with my local dealer for an M2 CSL/GTS months back. Nr 2 on their list. No idea about the UK list. I'd be hopeful of bagging one of those if they do actually release one.
Didn't get any call about the M4 variant, although to be fair I didn't really seek one anyway, when I heard their starting price...

Has their been any news about the M2 version anyone?

Obviously BMW thinks they won't sell as many if it weren't limited..and i agree. If it were availiable in the thousands alot of people wouldn't buy it because it won't be a collectors item anymore.

It's sad to see that so many special versions are so limited that they end up being stowed away rather than being used the way they are intended to be.
Same thing with the CSL's in germany, with the current prices its hard to justify driving it.

I pray daily that the arse falls out of this ridiculous market. I want to see 25-30k Csl, 50k gt3, 70k rs again and hope these cars fall into hands of drivers rather than polishers and speculators.

Sad state of affairs right now.

Each to his own I guess.

Both of my M cars have appreciated significantly since I bought them especially the E30 but I couldn't care less. I still drive them as I like whenever I like. Road, Track, Dirt, Rain... The only time I look at the odometer is to keep track of the service intervals...

I didn't buy Apple stocks, I bought great cars and they are only great when driven and driven properly...

P.S. Cleaning and Polishing a dirty used car gives me more satisfaction than dusting off a clean one ;)

This.

I thought the last GTS was a bit pony (although I loved the orange colour and the idea of a bigger V8), but this thing is an utter monstrosity. What's with the silly door pulls ripped of a GT3 RS, or the hideous chin spoiler. And what's that shocking video about? Whoever works in BMW marketing needs to head back to the 80s.

As for being turned down for a car, that is very Porsche. I will never buy another 911 via a dealer after the silliness that I experienced trying to buy a GT3 (or at GT4).

What I'm interested in is the M2 CSL... I've had a deposit down for that sucker all year!

Bored to death of hearing Nurburgring lap times now.. There's so much more to a car than how quick it goes round the ring in. It could be doing a 20 second lap but it looks crap and won't have the noise of the csl! For the first time in my life a lot of new cars are just not doing it for me.

Have to agree with you....but as its the perceived benchmark we'll have to live with it.

Saw a Mk2 Golf G60 @ the ring last week driven by a fine german chap who would shit the M4GTS towing a caravan.

Have to agree, while i think lap times on various tracks are not unimportant, it has been blown out of proportion in the last couple of years.

Manufacturers these days are so keen on fast laps that they don't care if the car only manages 1 lap until the tires are shredded to bits. And thats what most people don't think about.
For instance, the latest X6M supposedly matches the lap time of the e92 M3 but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to guess which is the better sportscar.
