Thinking of taking the first trip to Nordschleife during the summer 2009 and i was wondering if anyone has practiced the track layout before the first trip with any driving games.
if the answer was yes then:
1. did you find it helpfull
2. what was your choise of game

The best you can hope for is a rough indication where the track goes. The rest requires real experience.

If the game is 100% accurate, then it might help out in terms of knowing what way to turn round the next corner, burt not sure if it'd help any more than that.
Ive watched a few vids on youtube, and still have no idea what turn is next. The track is so long.

Well I did find that knowing the ring well made me a better player on GT4 though :-)
Seriously though, it is helpful do a very limited degree in perhaps learning wether the next turn is left or right but that's about it.
Once you are on the track for the first time you will forget everything, with cars and bikes swarming all over you.
No game on earth can convey the cambers bumps and inclines etc, the only game I have played is grand turismo and yea, it's not bad.

Ps you would be much better off meeting up with the CSL register on their trip and getting some do's and dont's from the more experienced chaps or I'm out their once a month from April to October

"No game on earth can convey the cambers bumps and inclines etc"
I thought so also. But if it could help in knowing is the next turn to left of right..... well dont know if its worth the time....
If the more experienced chaps could make a short list of do's and dont's that would appreciated :notworthy:
It would be great to able to come at the same time when more "csl register's" are on the premices.

As most are saying cannot show bumps and inclines but gives you an idea on what is coming next...

I would say Forza Motorsport 2 for X-Box has the best interpretation of the track direction and orientation of corners, and is the most realistic in terms of real times etc. You can use it to learn which way the track goes but you learn nothing beyond that.
As others have mentioned, in terms of camber, bumps and the effect the track has on the car, start with a clean sheet of paper when you get there and learn the track at conservative speeds. The experience of driving it is more thrilling and shocking than just about any other track you'll ever drive and that certainly is not accurately interpreted in any game.

I would say you're a man who doesn't play PC games... :-D
If you want to get close you need a PC running rFactor with Nurburgring 2007 installed as seen here http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Nordschleife%202007 and then probably something like the Caterham mod or maybe the Porsche GT3 2007 mod. MUCH closer to the experience than Forza in my book (no bias, I have a PS3 and XBox 360 too) and with a G25 wheel much more 'real'. One day they might produce it for iRacing which will be amazing as all their tracks are laser measured for every little nugget of reality.
Having said that get onto the real thing and I suspect like most tracks it will be somewhat different.

I agree with the comments above. The only real way to learn is by driving it. I found by the end of my 3rd lap i was starting to remember a few turns and stuff.
I also printed off a copy of this before i went and did a bit of pre-Ring study on the ferry over! It makes even more sense after you have driven a few laps and can relate to it more :smt023

Computer games give you the lefts and the rights... that's all. There's no substitute for laps under your belt. The games don't give you the changes in tarmac, camber and elevation, wet/dry lines etc.

They teach you some of the lines ... like straight across the grass to cut corners
