Hi guys!

So I'm back home after some amazing days in Nürburg.

My wife and I attended the DN12 trackday. We had a great time and the car ran without problem both days.

Managed to lower my personal record on the Nordschleife with over twenty seconds.

Here's a onboard video of the fastest lap.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaQNCR3qXzQ

And here's a video of the lap with probably the best pace, but some crashes and traffic near the end made the time not so good. 7:34ish Sport Auto lap.
Oh, and I hit the curb going over Pflanzgarten 2 and almost jumped out of the road...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35VXSSAEl94

Here's a couple of photos from the trip as well.

The car ready on the trailer before the 1350 km trip down to Nürburg

When we arrived in Nürburg the weather was beautiful and we did a trackwalk this year as well

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w364/setramotorsport/20150720_205153_zpshznfqmqd.jpg

I had the car corner balanced and alligned at Getspeed the day before the trackday. They also did a good check of the general condition on the car and ended up changing the front wheel bearings as well. Super friendly and skilled guys. I highly recomend them for check on your car before attending a full trackday.

Darren had a good drivers briefing with us. Actually the whole first trackday went by without any crashes.

Awesome driving

A real treat seeing the footwork

I am @ DN13 this year but won't be achieving anything near your times.

Good to see a lot of considerate drivers moving early for you.

I love your last video - the music and the feel-good factor of sharing the event with your wife is awesome (I've shared it on my FB :) ).

Can I ask a couple of questions - have you switched from an intercooler to a charge-cooler?

What size and make slicks do you run and what size and offset are the wheels?

It was the feel good factor of a Nürburg trip I was trying to show in that video, so seems like I did something right :)

Yes, I changed to a charge-cooler setup last year. Got a package deal with simpson on the built engine and a old ESS supercharger kit, so I sold the supercharger kit I had and use the old one on my car.
Works very well this kit also.

I have 9,5" ET 35 Apex wheels with 15 mm spacers in the front and 10" ET 25 without spacers in the rear.

Run 265/64-18 Pirelli slicks front and 27/65-18 Michelin slicks in the rear.

Loving that lap, what a buzz that must have been. Have you had much tuition or just lots of practice on your own?

My favourite bit was when you passed the Porsche just after Flugplatz, the speed difference must have looked genuinely insane from his point of view:smokin:

No I haven't had any tuition, don't feel I had that much practice either. Been to a little over twenty trackdays now and participated in 6 raceweekends. Feel like my driving are getting better and better, but there's still alot to learn and experience...

They say it takes 50 laps to learn your way round and then each lap after that is honing and getting braver with corner speeds. I would say 20 trackdays and 6 race weekends must put you somewhere around 500-750 laps?

I had a Huracan pass me on laptime-setting pace while I was driving a diesel Discovery Sport. I think I know how that Porsche felt. :hahaha:

Hopefully we'll meet at one of these trackdays at some point in the future, I really need some more laps under my belt, for various annoying reasons I've not been on track there for just over a year now.

Oh you where talking about at the ring... I thought you ment total track experience. I've been to four trackdays at the ring now. Done about 80-90 laps total.

I think I touched the curb on the inside going over the crest cause the front left corner got a little kick and wouldn't come down as it usually does. When it did, the car was pointing towards the rack so I had to do a little adjustment, but it sorted it self out mostly. Gave a nice little kick though... ;)

Was a fantastic trip and perfect conditions!

Epic car you have built! Brutal acceleration absolutely loved it :smokin:

In regards to the slicks any reason you run different front to rear or that just what you had or could get? I will be getting a set of michelins for later this year any suggestions on what compound to get?

Great great car!

Thanks man!

The 265 Pirelli tires I have in front are the widest that fit. Michelin only have 25/64-18 and 27/65-18. 270 are too wide for my setup.

Michelin medium compound are great. Good grip and lasts a bit longer then softs.

Great info thanks... :smokin: so you would pick the Michelins over the pirelli if you could fit them on the front and back?

i have been looking at the 27/65-18 S8H MEDIUM but it says thats for an 11 inch rim i run 10x18 square on the E92 you think that should be ok?

DN are only doing 2 single days and one double at the end of September will you wait for the September date to return?

Yes, Michelin tires are the best in my opinion.
I use the 27/65-18 on a 10'' rim without a problem. So if you can fit them on your front without rubbing you're golden. S8H is a great compound.

I haven't decided what trackday I will run yet. I'm dreaming of one lap without any traffic and aim for a 7:15 sport auto lap this year.
Allthough I love the DN trackdays, I think my best bet will be if Getspeed has a similar trackday as they had last year, with a very limited number of racecars allowed. But as I said, I haven't decided yet...

Mike

the E90 M3 was a Toyota test driver

but the E92 M3 was a mortal like you and me.

very little info I'm afraid other than his E92 M3 was an awesome sight, moonwalk grey body(battleship grey) with the cf roof, fully prep'd track car as you'd expect...but still road legal.

i'll ask me lad if he took any pics.

Apart from Luke in the White E92 raeder M3 the only other M3 I know of doing a 7:14 was Claude is the black E92 schirmer racing m3 xx31 who has now done a 6:59 but with a 4.4l 500hp motor on slicks

It's obviously very possible but so so fast :smokin:

But the 6:59 is BTG, not a sport auto lap.
7:14 sport auto lap is about 6:52 BTG.

I don't say that it's impossible, but it's faster then any production based BMW I've heard of before. Would be great to see the video.

I'm not fully versed in the different start/finish points but I'm fairly sure
the 7:14 and the 7:24 were bridge to gantry and not full laps.

That makes more sence. I haven't seen any "production based" BMW beat "loadeds" time of 7:22,85 sport auto lap, so I thought it was a bit strange that two cars beat the time in one trackday without hearing or reading about it.

A sport auto lap is a full lap, minus the old starting grid at T-13 by the way.
