Hi all,

Just saw the thread about there only being one CSL around for sale. Well, there have been two on the german sites recently, as of Friday - one less.

I'm the new owner of a SG RHD. 53k miles, great body and interior, minor engine troubles.

This one is derestricted and also feels overall a bit quicker than my last SB. It had no real struggle pulling to an indicated 300kph (I live in germany so that's autobahning).

So happy to have another one. Since terminal bottom-end failure of the last one I'd been looking at Aston Vantage V8s, a few 996 Turbos, two 997 turbos, (GT3s out of price range), Ferrari 360s, Audi R8, various Gpower tuned M E46s and E92s , E30 M3, and toying with self-modding a regular E30 in to my dream E30... All in all, I got so pissed off looking at cars and having no desire for any of them I realised I missed the CSL more than I expected. Being quite bummed out about the fact I was never likely to own one again then all of a sudden this RHD popped up, already in Germany, already registered, reasonable mileage, reasonable price after beating the seller down a bit over some quite obvious niggles.

All in all, very happy to be back in the CSL world.

Nice one Hoshy, welcome back!

Yet another example to reinforce the suspicion I have that ever selling the Cesil would be a terrible idea

Thanks all, appreciate the warm welcome back. Just took a 1 hour drive to the local kart circuit via the back roads and I can't imagine having enjoyed it as much in any other car that can still be a genuine regular use car.

The SB got sold on to a local guy here in Munich who will give it the needed restoration and garage it for 10 years or so as an investment - I got a good price from him so I am happy on that.

There are a few grips as noted on the SG - it has a slightly rough idle, particularly when cold - hoping this is minor airleak or Lamba sensors but could be related to the more worrying problem that below about 2000 rpm it misfires a bit, especially under high load (e.g. 6th gear at low speed). I am really hoping this is something simple like plugs or coils but I guess it could be early indication of head gasket, rings, or even cracked head. Also noticed that the long term oil reading drops quickly, but the sport-button instant readout has been solid - hope it's not been the victim of being over-filled! There can't be anything that wrong though as it pulls really strong - as it's derestricted I guess it has been chipped too - will be visiting the dyne in a few days, sadly something I never got around to on the SB.

Apart from that, there's brake judder which could warped disks (happened twice on the SB from heavy autobahning :p) but it's quite bad so I think balljoints are more likely.

SMG itself is very smooth (by comparison to the >120k mile dog I had before :)) - still some early signs of clunk if not careful changing though - really want to diagnose this properly - maybe a diff refresh is in order. I think I'd be in heaven if it were possible to fit an 7/8 speed double clutch box!

Local mechanic has a regular e46 M3 and will be under taking a lot of perfectionist fettling work as he's a proper BMW enthusiast but as it's not seen BMW for a few years I think I'm send it in for a full Service II first.

So, a bit to take care of but all good.

History of the car is that it had 5 UK owners, the last being with the registration T3 BYE around TW17 way.

and btw...

TOP GEAR TONIGHT!!!!

Would be great if Clarkson revealed the CSL was his favourite car of all time in a tearful ending to one of the best pieces of television ever created by man, in the history of the universe.
